Greetings Everyone

I wanted to take a moment to introduce the The Battle for Gaiscioch. This ongoing poll of interest levels will help us decide not only what games to feature in our Magazine but also help us identify potential chapters rising in the MMORPG scene. It also helps us keep track of how many of you are still interested in our current chapters. By completing this survey you can claim your 250 Contribution point reward and help identify games you'd like to see the family play. Each member can choose their top 3 games, and also change them at any time by returning to the poll page.

Current Chapters:

  1. Guild Wars 2 Current Tribute Chapter - 2012 - Tribute Chapter: Will not be eligible for closure unless Sanctum of Rall is taken offline. This chapter is to pay tribute to Roger "Oldroar" Rall.
  2. Elder Scrolls Online Current - 2014

Learn More and Discuss the New Contenders:

  1. Camelot Unchained - 2016
  2. Everquest Next - TBA
  3. Black Desert - 2016
  4. Crowfall - 2016
  5. Bless Online - 2016
  6. Land of Britain - 2017
  7. Shards Online - 2016
  8. Lineage Eternal - 2016
  9. Project Gorgon - 2017
  10. Kingdom Under Fire - 2016
  11. Dragons Dogma Online - TBA
  12. Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen - 2017
  13. Monster Hunter Online - TBA

Please Note: I will be updating these threads as more information becomes available.

Vote Now At: http://www.gaiscioch.com/vote/seed-survey.html

Please note: receiving 250 votes will only make the title eligible for consideration and will not guarantee a seed. It will still have to receive a Gaiscioch Compatibility Score of 70% or higher to be considered for branch selection.

Disclaimer: Please note that just because a game is on this list does not mean that we will open a seed in that game. The seed program will only be used in the event the Elder Scrolls Chapter is deemed unsalvageable. If ZeniMax Online manages to recover before we find a game that has the support of the family and the compatibility score to open a seed then we will stay in ESO.

Out of the Running:

The following games did not meet our minimum requirements for chapter consideration. These will likely have a "GSCH" guild created in them for use during livestreams however. You'll be welcome to join and hang out with the streamteam and maybe even participate in some streams with us if you like. These will not be actual guilds just shells that we can show off for the livestreams and have a familiar sub brand.

Looked at all of these and none of them really compare to ESO in my view. I just hope the justice system and Champion system bring people back.

I really liked the look and feel of  Everquest Next.

I joined the Gaiscioch Family in the Warhammer Chapter and was forever spoiled for it. I still get chills recalling the command to open and close the shield wall as we duped unsuspecting opponents into charging inside our keep and certain death.  The Gaiscioch Warhammer Chapter remains the single greatest gaming experience of my decades of online gaming.

GW2 failed to recreate this intense team driven play and competitive environment.  Although a fun game in it's own right, it lacked the fun factor aimed at  guild combat.

ESO totally missed the mark. A plethora of game design issues that saw me unable to participate (whiled subbed for months). ESO is at its best a single player game with some group elements thrown in. It was not a guild friendly game at inception and  remained that way up to a few months ago. There are a gross amount of balance issues between classes and the ludicrous time sinks leveling at champion levels.  That is but a few of the game flaws , and  ESO seemed intent in limiting the amount of fun a guild could have together.  Raiding was degrading into 3 or 4 leaders discussing personal issues as the cannon fodder ran to point A from B without the reason why only to die. Could have been fun, but for whatever reason  it just didn't translate that way to me.

I'm looking for that determinable goal that ties the guild together. Something we can take pride in and the tools to accomplish it.

I feel ya Nycto, we will just have to persevere these rough times to find that place where we can call home. Whether one of these 13 can provide that or what comes after. A path will be revealed and until then we just need to stay strong, focus on fun and keep trying to grow as best as we can.

I'm sorry Ben, but I can't vote on any of those right now.  Honestly, after being burnt by ESO, Wildstar and especially Archeage, I've lost confidence in my ability to determine a game's quality for my purposes, much less for purpose of "Chapter worthiness", until after it actually launches.  Archeage actually introduced the element of being broadsided by a toxic community, something that I honestly did not expect, but it makes me almost sick to play AA, especially after learning about Gaiscioch and Tuatha family members griefing and harassing each other.

I don't know what's going on with the industry, but it seems that too many developers and publishers are going for the fast cash grabs.  Several years ago, selling Closed Beta keys was considered ludicrous and unethical, but now they're selling Alpha access, in some cases opening an early cash shop, and players just willingly buy them right up.

That being said, I do think that this "Seed" idea is viable, but I can't give a thumbs up/down, based on pre-release marketing hype.  My suggestion would be, for us as a gaming community, to first reach out and try to build a close relationship with developers, then maybe give those games our focused attention.  I'm not talking about some "guild summit" deals like Zenimax did, or even a casual exchange of emails, but I mean an open and continuous line of communications throughout their development process, something that involves us as a gaming community.

Without that happening, I'm not feeling warm and fuzzy about getting my hopes up for a Chapter-worthy game out of any of these.

I apologize if the above seems doom and gloomy, its not my intent.  I'm just being bluntly honest and I will admit that I could very well be affected by the massively poisonous negativity that exudes from Archeage's community, as well as events in my RL atm.

So, I am curious: what about a return to an "oldie but goodie" game?  There are some well established titles out there, with great communities and they may not fit "the list", but you know... we're all here to have fun playing online games, and at the end of the day, that's all that matters... that we're having fun.

Just a thought.  Well, its a thought that I've had for a few years, it was something that I actually wanted to do with my Waelwulfas brand, but then the Saighdear program came out and it was supposed to do what I wanted to do with WW, just much more restrictive and different.  Though, I might still pursue going back to that idea, in early 2015 once the Saighdear program is officially closed, and once I get things back on track RL, so... yea, just tossing out some ideas.  :)

The problem with going for oldie but goodies is getting the population to support it and make it worthwhile. You would be starting late in the game, have no foundation, no reputation, and be the new guild fighting for leftovers. When we roll into a new game we have players scouting out guilds, comparing based on past reputation.  That allows us to snag a lot of the players we want a and gain the population to make the impact we want. Without that we essentially have to build it from the ground up with whoever is leftover and uncommited. It also puts your members in an awkward position if they already play that game with another guild. The thing is we don't have to branch into another game. Guild Wars 2 is sustainable and performing well for us. We are near cap again and every person on the roster has played this month. I don't want to spread ourselves thin unless there is a real possibility for our family to bloom and grow. Oldie but goodies offer little to no chance of growth.

To have a Honorable Mention slot, I have also funded and backed Star Citizen.  I know the SCI-FI falls off the normal trend here, but if Chris Roberts and crew can still deliver on the player run/mod version of the game from KickStarter like they said it would have, there is tons of fun and community content will be endless.   Since it is now a 60+Million budget game it may no longer happen, but could still turn out to be a great game for the crowd funding portion of game industry and future like Camelot Unchained.  I hope both do well and will be playing them at some capacity in the future.

Freawyn, you now know my delema. Not a single one of these match our branch profile. In fact there is no game on the horizon that matches. What Im looking for is something we could have fun in for a few months to year to let something that does match our branch specifications to make itself known. The games mentioned above I think I could organize some fun events in. Just don't think any of them would be lasting.

Like those before me I can't really pick one of these yet. It's like looking at a list and choosing which one I dislike the least via the trailers. While they all have one or two things that appeal to me, overall, I'm not impressed.

Have you heard of a game called "Repopulation"?  When I was reading game descriptions, it sounded intriguing, but when I looked at the site, it seemed under-funded.

Soon as my company sells look for a kickstarter by me. I have a game design plan I've worked on for 10 years. I've been waiting for the tech to catch up and I finally think it's ready. Once I have the financial security I plan on making that jump.

"The problem with going for oldie but goodies is getting the population to support it and make it worthwhile."

Yea, I feel you.  It was an idea, I know that GW2 is sustaining for now, but this particular sector of game design is so volatile, its hard to look past 6 months down the road.  Also, GW2 limits us to just a single game, where while we may pick up a few new folks, we'll still be cycling out those who have been with us for a while.  Yea, its just the way life goes, friends come and go, but to me, it'd be nice to keep friends around for a while, for a change.  Cycled too many in my life as it is.  That's a major drive behind the ideas that I've been tossing around, w/ putting Waelwulfas to use for, in these past few years.

Anyway, yea... I just don't see anything coming down the pipe that's going to match our criteria.  If anyone wonders why I say that, go to MMORPG.com and look at their list of active MMO games.  There are over 140 active MMOs and none, I mean none, meet our criteria for a GSCH chapter. (some are close, but are already established, w/problems being those that Fog explained above)

That being said, I think the next logical step is to do our own MMORPG, like you've been wanting, Fog.  IMO, its just the natural evolution for this community and its needs.

edit: I also went ahead and did my voting.  I figure that there are some that I am interested in and some that I'm not, so since this Seeding is just at an exploratory phase, any and all data is of use, even if we have to change our minds re: our choices, later.

The only two from the list that interest me (even on a very casual level) are Camelot Unchained for the setting, and Shards Online for the customization, neither of which are due for release until 2016.  But GW2 is a good home, and Warlords of Draenor is providing plenty of distraction too (garrisons + altoholic = omg how is it 5am I just looked at the clock and it was 8pm), so I'm content to wait until the family finds a new world to explore... particularly if it's a kickstarter by Fog.

I too have backed Star Citizen under the name "Snapcap". I would welcome any contact from fellow Gaiscioch Family members in game. It looks like an amazing game created by someone that actually loves the genre.  Fail or not,  it has been a pleasure supporting a developing game from the ground up. I am in no way suggesting this be a seed for Gaiscioch, but more of a side interest for those of us that love the space sim,

Pretty excited for Camelot Unchained as it is bringing back the oldschool feel and what made Darkage of Camelot so great with its 3 way realm vs realm and it is being made by Mark Jacobs, the same creator.  he is also using a lot of new game mechanics that EA would not let him use in Warhammer Online.

My better half and I have selected a few games from the survey that we thought were very interesting...

Camelot Unchained seems to be a fantastic premise that will hopefully bring together all of the better RvR PvP aspects of DAoC and Warhammer. If they toss in some of the "sand box" elements that are being implemented in the other contenders, we think it will be a winner. We only hope that CUs crafting class/PvE is as engaging as the RvR aspects of the game. EQ2 crafting was a blast with the interactivity between yourself and the item being made. And if they could include something similar to the Diplomacy system from Vanguard, then it would definitely be a keeper.

Shards is another game we both found enticing. It reminded me of an online version of the PnP Rifts RPG combined with Ultima Online and its many private servers. If the capabilities of their shard system is as robust and user friendly as they have shown in their videos and stated on various websites, then our Kickstarter backing will have proven itself to be a good investment. We also feel that Shards provides a unique way to display the creativity and genius of the Gaiscioch family to a wider audience.

Pathfinder looks great as well. But we are concerned that Pathfinder is becoming more like an MMORPG using the setting rather than a Pathfinder game that is online.

Everquest Next also looks like a contender if SOE can manage to reduce the lag that we already encounter in Landmark.

We also enjoy Sci-Fi, so we have some honorable mentions including our LTI Anvil Carrack/Banu Merchantman backed Star Citizen, the grand daddy of space sim games Elite: Dangerous, and Repopulation. We really like Repopulation because it appears to combine pre-SGE SWG, Anarchy Online, Tabula Rasa, STO ground, and the gear modding of SWTOR into one package.

Now if only my dream of a true Darksun, Deadlands, or Warhammer 40k MMORPG (not including Eternal Crusade) would come into being...

I grew up on EQ but when DAoC was released,  I found myself completely immersed in PvE, RvR, crafting and pretty much everything DAoC had to offer.  I haven't been able to find another game that held my attention as much as DAoC did.  Which,... is why you all don't see me much lately lol.  I really miss Barding the most to be honest.  The music thing in game is a big draw for me.  If I can't smack something to death with the back end of a lute or rope something with a harp string, I tend to loose interest quickly.

My vote goes to either one EQN or CU at this point.  The one that wins is the one that keeps a bard class active.

I've been mostly behind EQ Next mostly, but after readying how some of your are excited about Camelot Unchained it's got me curious. if we get enough people on board for this I will follow Fog into doom and death... I mean to Camelot Unchained. I loved DAOC PVP. It was fun, but pretty much before now it was worded by most people of being make your character, get thrown into PVP. Which was a turn off for me since there was no safe place to actually learn the game before hand. And I'm tired of the high level ganking that tends to plague PVP centric MMOs/servers.

So even though I voted not interested, I recast my vote to slightly interested. I'll keep my eyes and ears open for more information as it becomes available. Would be nice to PVP with some of you folks again.

You may want to add new contender to this list:

http://community.crowfall.com/index.php?/topic/979-012215-the-crowfall-universe-economycrafting-raph-koster/

The Devs are revealing more info over next few weeks about their game and style and decisions, but so far this game has some very interesting concepts that I think would fit the family very well :P

Siege, Conquest/Territory control, Crafting, Economy, Fantasy Based, etc only part that may be left out is traditional PVE but that could be good thing for their design.

It's something to keep an Eye on for sure MikeyDee however it was just announced Jan 9th publicly. Which means it likely has 3+ years to development to go. It's likely a Loong way off. But I will definitely add it to our watch list and see about building some contacts over there. It's nice to see another US MMORPG pop up. There isn't a whole lot of them these days starting up with traditional funding.

Dropped Skyforge from the running and added Land of Britain. Look to issue 6 for information on this upcoming PvE & Siege Warfare focused game. Be sure to update your votes!

Hm, I'd heard that Skyforge was good and never heard of Land of Britain, but since I didn't vote for either, it's more of an observational comment.  I'm still putting my money on Camelot Unchained as the next break-out Siege Warfare game.

Everquest Next:  I was just going to ask if anyone had heard anything about Daybreak's plans for this @ E3 (I've been under a rock, lately), when I decided to do a quick Bing search and found this:  Daybreak Shifts Focus From Landmark To EverQuest Next, No Guarantee Of Release This Year

Skyforge didn't even get 40 votes. Land if Britain was just unveiled with an eta of 2017-2018. Still a long ways off.

Grim,

have you played it? Have you been to the first city? What do you think it would be like with 100 people on your screen. The models are so big and players take click priority we would be unable to move. The game has some nice features but in the end it's not going to be a place a large community like ours would thrive. Additionally during our poll  not even 25 people voted for it. 25 out of 700 people who voted.

furthermore, you need to remember we only go into 2 games as a time as Gaiscioch. This game would have to attract more people than ESO  and support our community better than ESO. Right now it doesn't even come close. The interest simply isn't there.

Another thing to keep in mind is we're looking for a game that we can hold large scale public community events in like Warhammer where we had 500+ concurrent participants in a single event, or RIFT where we had 800. Both of our current generation games can't support groups of that size and I'm hoping the next will. While these games might be great for a 100 person guild they simply don't provide a platform for upwards of 700+ to do things together.

Land of Britain is still in concept phase and bare bones from what I can see.  However it looked inyeresting enough I am keeping my eye on it.  There is no way I'm going to vote on it now though - too far to go to see what really pans out.  Think I'll stick with the votes I do have due to past experiences and the fact I'm not ditching ESO any time soon!

I think that as we look at this update to the survey, we probably won't see as much activity for Land of Britain for both Briseadh's reasoning, and because people will likely sit where they have been.

However, if it can actually do what it promises, I think it is the closest fit to a chapter for us in the entire list of upcoming games.  It is a fair way off, and much can change in a couple years, but for now I think I will actually swap to a vote for it.

For any of the others, I think we will find many issues with opening a chapter.  ESO currently has issues as a chapter, but it does offer a lot more for PvE options than some of the upcoming choices.  The other upcoming choices... I expect to have much of the same Archeage, Neverwinter, STO drama with in game stores, based off early reports.

Still, good to be looking into more options!!

Yup of all the choices Land of Britan looks like it will be the closest fit for all aspects of the family and if they can actually deliever, it would the best for a new chapter.

however a lot can change in 2 years as we saw with ESO.  its a bit early to decide on this MMO yet . but it looks very promising atm.

Adding a few new ones that im just putting fealers out there to see if i should focus spme attention at them. Let me know whos interested. Added kingdoms under fire 2, monster hunter online, and dragons dogma online.  All 3 are being built as AAA mmos but all of which are foriegn. There just isnt a whole lot out there being developed in the west. Weve got some European  games poping up but the US market is Really dry in the mmo space.

You'll now see the current poll results on the right side of the homepage next to discussions as well. Feel free to change your votes as you become more or less interested. The neet part is that it tracks interest levels over time and then places key articles for each month so we can identify things that people REALLY like about games and things that people REALLY hate about games allowing us to build a better scope of what you're interested in.

I would say that Crowfall is the only one that I am even remotely considering playing on that list.  Even then, I think I'm done with MMO's for the moment.

MMO's don't do it for me any more, I used to think it was me that was just getting bored of them, but it's not, I think it's the direction they all took after World of Warcraft hit the scene.  There's just too much money involved and where there's money, there are dirty hands trying to squeeze more money out.  It is the move to Free to Play/Buy to Play and even subscription models are using item shops now.  MMORPGs used to provide a decent service for $15/month, a world to escape to and to socialize with people from all over the world.  Now they feel like a filthy slot machine, sucking every last penny from my wallet and using psychological manipulation to create a habit forming addiction to it.  They have become less social more restrictive and more expensive with each coming year.  I'm not going to get sucked in any more.

Guild wars 2 is close but unfortunately they don't have a mobile authenticator app and hate people who use roaming IPs.

In today's age, gamers traditionally don't play one MMO over long periods of time. Before WoW when there was 5 MMO's to choose from it was easy to commit to a game for years. And that commitment brought with it longevity. Today, subscription modes aren't an option because players seldom invest the time required to have a true personal investment in a game. Once wow wracked in it's first billion every investor under the sun had to have their own wow. Then bam, new MMORPG pops up every month and players are scattered to the winds. Now Subscription MMO's barely can function. Their now forced to go Free-2-Play to survive and even still it's rare a player calls their game home for more than a year.

Now we see the same thing happen in the MOBA world. League of Legends booms and surpasses WoW's profits, and now every investor under the sun needs their own MOBA. This has caused a dry spell in MMORPG's which likely will continue into the coming years. The hard truth is that a community like ours will experience an eb and flow of players coming and going and many of the faces we come to love will someday drift away to hopefully cross our paths once again. There's nothing I or anyone else can do to stop it. It's just the name of the game at this point. All we can do is try to keep in touch like Elth has done over the years and do what we can to share adventures with each other. I hope that in 2016 we can help pioneer the next generation of social gaming and find our footing in this changing climate.

I'm sticking around and I've had my own issues wanting to stick to games in the mix.   I've played quite a few in the past 15 years and now there are so many it is crazy at times.  I found a game that fits for how I play now and that is ESO, but that doesn't mean it will always be the game I want to play or that it will fit how I want to play in the future.  It's taken since my testing days that started in May of 2013 until the past couple of months to make me realize I may very well have leveled my last veteran in the game.  But lots of things keep me going in it for now and I know I won't be quitting until something else trumps it entirely.  Right now I have a great combo of role play and gaming still.  Interesting even in this game the whole set up of what I do in it is different than last year other than have them crazy map clears I've done on and off since I got that wonderful network upgrade August last year.

The only one I am really watching on this list now is Land of Britain and the info is still sparce while they first get the card game of Fangold out.  They are giving it a good showing at a convention right now in their home country of Italy.  Their hope is that the card game will bring in the funds to ramp up what they need on producing the MMO and it will show the world the lore behind the Land of Britain game.  I have some connections here, so we'll see what they can pull off.

I'm also watching Chronicles of Elyria.  I don't know if it will be a fit for Gaiscioch for a lot of reasons, but it is definitely pretty interesting.  They are throwing out a lot of information in the past couple of months.  It might interesting some of you though I'm thinking this is another title for a 2017 at the earliest release.  This is a very dynamic world and you can lose and gain everything easily depending on your luck and what you do.  Just like life.

Yeah, CoE is interesting.  There are a lot of things I really want to know more about before I would consider a judgement call on it.

A really big one, given their design, is the jail system.  It has to be fair but strong.  Otherwise the game will be a no go in terms of being a nice person for all too many.

Yeah, they have only touched on it some, but it does add penalty to the character and takes off from their life allowance.  I've not been able to jump into their weekly IRC chats much yet, I made it to half of one, but I know with how they have conracts set up for the game there are definitely penalities for breaking the laws.  I'm wanting to watch this one more closely, but I have too many irons in the fire so only made it to one of their weekly chats where I actually got a question answered.  I mostly do a quick read of the Design Journal and a skim of posts about once a week.

I got other places where I have more interest, but the info out is barebones still compared to what CoE has put out.  I have to admit it is quite interesting the miriad of ways I've seen companies finance their efforts and even how they approach the crowd funding.  Potato Killer Studios is actually releasing a card named Fangold first that should bring in some money and then bringing out the MMO.  I think they may do some crowd fuding too.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see what really comes out that we find worth playing.  =)

Yeah... character lifetime is an iffy punishment to me.  Especially given the option to then roll another and continue.  I'm just not sure that such penalties will prevent it from turning into a gankfest.

I do think both are interesting projects, and hope they can deliver good quality games.  A lot of studios are looking to change up the formula from what we have seen the last decade or so... I hope the innovation works well and we get a better overall product set in the market as a result.

Guild wars 2 is close but unfortunately they don't have a mobile authenticator app and hate people who use roaming IPs.

They do now -- they've added support for the Google Authenticator (and other apps using the TOTP/OAUTH standard, if you don't want to use the Google one). I've been using Google Authenticator on my account and have had no problems at all. My dynamic IP doesn't cause problems since the network authorization isn't based on a single IP - as far as I can tell, it uses the range allocated to your carrier. Global roaming triggers an authentication request, but it's easy enough to confirm. I had no issues recently when travelling from Australia > South Korea > Canada.

On topic:

Have to admit, I keep looking at the list every so often to see if something grabs my attention, but beyond GW2 and Camelot Unchained, nothing appeals enough for me to list that 3rd preference (although in fairness my current obsession with FFXIV might have something to do with it).

I use WinAuth for GW2 and other games.  Its easy to back-up, recover and reinstall (done it twice) and supports any game that supports Google Auth, as well as some other stuff (folks can read up on their own).

The extra layer of security is priceless.

its just kinda stupid that they didn't make one for the phone. its cheap, easy and doesn't require one to DL third party software(which I have very bad luck with)

I will however look into the google authenticator again but like I said third party software and me do not get along.

Nice resurrection there :D. Ashes of Creation is currently the only chapter potential on the horizon. Further down the road the new Athlon/Amazon Lord of the Rings MMO might be something but at this point AOC is the only one that fits our chapter requirements so far. A lot can change between now and launch.
