Overview

The most dynamic and immersive MMO to date, Chronicles of Elyria is the first MMORPG where your character ages and dies, encouraging you to think beyond your character to their role in a larger story.

Fearless in its design, it embraces a character's ability to impact other characters. A closed economy, finite resources, non-repeatable quests, and a fully destructible environment means the world is experienced differently for every character. Each time you log in there is something for you to participate in. Local, regional, and national conflicts are continuously unfolding, giving birth to repeated opportunities for you to change the course of history.

Enter the world as a member of a player-run family, then work your way up from a humble adventurer to a landed vassal, develop your dynasty, and work your way to King. Not interested in running a kingdom? The fully skill-based system and lack of classes means you're rewarded with the ability to create the exact character you want to.

Will you follow a path of virtue... or something darker?

General Design

Q. What classes do you have?

None! Chronicles of Elyria is a fully skill-based system, in which the skills you use determine which skills you're good at. There are, however, schools you can join which will provide certain benefits such as ranks and titles, and will help you develop certain skill sets more quickly.

Q. What kinds of skills are there?

Skills will be revealed in an upcoming content milestone. Stay tuned!

Q. I read somewhere this was an RTS, RPG, kingdom management... thing. What does that look like?

Correct! To the adventurer it's mostly an AARPG. If you purchase land and start building a town it takes on more sim-like elements. Running a county or duchy will feel a lot more like an RTS, and for the Kings, it plays more like a kingdom/resource management game. At each level of play new user experiences become available help make managing your new role easier. And unlike in most RTS/Kingdom Management games, in CoE, your units are the other players!

Q. What do you do to prevent people from stealing your mail?

Shh! This is one of our best kept secrets.

Q. What are the mini-games you mentioned for non-combat skills?

It's hard to describe without pictures. There will be more to come in a future content milestone.

Guilds and Families

Q. I read somewhere you start as part of a family?

Yep! As part of character creation you pick a family. This impacts everything from where you start, to which possible skill bonuses you begin with, to what physical attributes such as hair color you can select.

Q. Does it have to be a player-run family?

No. You can select NPC parents as well, but they tend to be less talkative in Family Chat.

Q. What if I don't want to be constrained by family restrictions?

You can opt to start as a ward of the state. You get more flexibility in character creation, but lose most of the starting benefits of a family.

Q. Are there guilds?

Absolutely! With a metric ton of new features I'd say we're really the first MMO to support guilds.

Q. What if I want to bring my guild with me to Chronicles of Elyria?

Great! We'll be providing codes which will allow you to bring your entire guild into your family or guild so you can get a jump on building a powerful dynasty or enterprise.

Q. How do I make sure my friends start on the same server?

When you provide a friend with a game code it will allow them to create a character on your server, even if the server population is capped.

Q. How I do I make sure my friends start in the same area as me?

As part of character creation they will have an opportunity to pick a family that is close in proximity to yours.

Death and Dying

Q. Wait, players age and die?! Really?!

Yep. When we thought long and hard about what we wanted to achieve with this game - dramatic story telling, rich, evolving history, a balanced skill based system, etc... it became clear to us that the only way to achieve that was if characters were constantly cycling. But don't worry, we're spending a lot of time thinking about how we can make the process of death, and birth an enjoyable and interesting part of the game.

Q. So, there's dying, and then there's DYING?

Correct. During normal play you can get knocked out or receive a fatal wound in which your soul temporarily leaves your body. Neither of those are perma-death. But each time your soul leaves your body your soul's connection to Elyria gets weaker, shortening your total life span. When you reach your maximum age, you will sleep the Final Sleep and be no more. That's DYING.

Q. Do I lose experience if my soul becomes separated?

There's no experience in Chronicles of Elyria. However, you may experience some skill atrophy if you're dead for long. And also, the process of being ripped from the physical world takes a toll on the soul. Each time you die, it will reduce your available life span.

PvP and other Unsavoury Activities

Q. Is there PvP?

Yeah. Lots. Everywhere. Kingdoms go to war, assassins wage their silent battles in the night, highwaymen lay wait in ambush on the unsuspecting passer-by. However, except in times of war, PvP is illegal, and the penalty is stiff. So while PvP is possible everywhere, it's highly unlikely around civilized areas.

Q. Griefers. Tell me you've at least eliminated the griefers!

Actually, more or less. In Chronicles of Elyria, crimes such as attacking other characters is punishable by time in prison. The more time someone spends in prison, the shorter their playable lifespan, the more their skills atrophy, and the less powerful they will ultimately become. So, we've kind of removed most the incentive around griefing.

Q. What about gold farming?

We recognize that not all players can (or want to) spend the same amount of time per week farming gold for that special armor. We also recognize some people have a ton of free time, but not a lot of money. We're attempting to equalize this by having an in-game exchange market.

End-game Content

Q. What does end-game content look like?

There isn't any. No, seriously. This game is about being a part of an epic, ongoing story-line. Fill your characters' days adventuring, siegeing, farming, running a town, county, or kingdom. Spend time increasing your family's holdings and building your Noble House. And then, in your characters' final days, let them sleep the final sleep, while your soul grows young again and re-born into another character to make their own mark.

Q. Is there raiding?

No.. and yes. There are no static raid dungeons. However, world events will frequently cause big, bad, nasties that to need to be dealt with to roam free or take shelter in an abandoned ruin.. Also, as players amass a large amount of wealth and hide it in their castles other, less savoury players may choose to break in and steal it. Finally, kingdoms will often go to war and siege each others' castles. All of these can and will require a varying number of players to be successful.

Q. How big is the world?

Really, really big. More details to come.

Influence / Influence Points

Q. What are Influence Points?

Influence Points (Influence or IP) is our pre-launch currency. Influence gives us a way to quantify and reward players for their contribution to making the game successful.

Q. How do I earn Influence?

There will be many different ways to earn Influence, such as: recruiting other players to the game, contributing during crowd funding campaigns, being particularly beneficial and helpful on the forums, submitting bugs during open/closed play events, and contributing high quality player-created content.

Q. What can I do with Influence?

Ah, the million dollar question. We're still working out all the possible things you can do with Influence, and we're open to suggestions. Some ideas we've already had are: starter packs, free lives, soul packs, land, buildings, noble titles, legendary items, custom surnames, the ability to name locations, etc...

Business/Planning

Q. When will the game be finished?

Not in 2015. Beyond that, it's too soon to tell.

Q. Will there be a beta? How do I sign up?

There will be a beta. When available, invitations will be sent automatically to people in order, based on Influence.

Q. Are you hiring?

Great question! Since this changes from time-to-time, your best bet is to bookmark our Jobs Page.

Q. What's the business model?

Chronicles of Elyria uses a unique business model that harkens back to the days of coin-op arcade machines. In short, when you buy the game you get a free life. Then, you play until your character dies the "Final Death" (perma-death). After that, you buy another life from the character creation screen and continue on.Before you get all upity about perma-death, please read the previous FAQ question titled: "Q. So, there's dying, and then there's DYING?"

Q. How much does the game cost? How much does a life cost?

No exact price has been set, but we anticipate it will be on par with the retail cost of other PC games. Lives will be roughly the cost of a game expansion.

Q. Can I contribute to the development of the game?

Games such as this requires many resources. The best way to get involved is too see our post on Influence Points, or head to our Investors page.

Q. How many servers will there be?

Our plan is to push the limits on the number of players available on a single server. As a result, it's our goal to keep the number of servers small.

Q. Do you plan to have regional/international servers?

Yes. We do plan to have regional servers.

Q. Are there micro-payments?

No. At least not in the usual sense. We don't like a model where only people with money can get access to the coolest things. So anything in the world can be purchased with gold. However, we understand not everyone wants to spend time farming for gold, so we do provide an in-game exchange that allows players to get gold for real-world currency.

Q. Is this pay to win?

No. Anything that can be achieved through purchasing, can be achieved without.

Game/Engine

Q. What engine/technology will you use?

We're currently using the CryEngine for the proof of concept. That may change for the final game.

Q. I'm confused, I thought you were using the Soulborn Engine.

When you think of a typical "game engine" you think of the set of libraries used to perform model/terrain/water/particle rendering, camera movement, animation, physics, user input, and sound. These are all, in general, things that the user experiences directly on the client-side and defines the look and feel of a game. For these things we're using the CryEngine.

In contrast, there are a set of services/libraries running on the back-end that drive the soulpool, the dynamic story engine, etc... These servces are scanning for and initiating dramatic situations and controlling the hierarchical, goal-based AI of the NPCs. These services also define the rules/mechanics which make Chronicles of Elyria different from other games that use the CryEngine. This collection of server-side logic and services is the Soulborn Engine.

Q. What will the system requirements be?

It's too early to tell exact requirements, however it will require a PC running Windows 7+, with a video card that supports DirectX 11+.

Q. What platforms will it be released on?

As we're currently built on the CryEngine, it will run on Windows PC. We are looking at compatible consoles as well, and the game is being built with a game pad in mind.

The pre-Alpha for this is coming up in a few months and I thought I would post links to the Design Journals on CoE so members and elders can take a first, or second look at the game.

This game is different in that in focuses more on community and player-driven quests, rather than the typical MMO adventuring. It allows for the players (approx. 100,000 per server) to shape and develop the kingdoms and lands. If you haven't already, I'd urge you to take a look at Chronicles of Elyria.

As always,

With "Land Selection" coming up fairly soon, I was wondering if any of our members here have pledged to this game at the Count, Duke or King level? I myself will be the humble mayor of Praxx and before I pledge my fealty to one of the other members of royaty on the NA-West I wanted to check here first.

This looks to be a great game. However, it seems that the payment method and in-game deaths are stopping some from taking a more serious look at a community-driven game. That being said, here is my attempt at alleviating some of those fears.

There are three forms of "death" in this game:

#1 Beaten to a pulp.  You suffer no spirit loss.  This happens when you get attacked and lose the fight, whether to creatures or players.

#2 Coup de grace. (aka: "Ha-ha! I killed you") Your soul is sent to the astral plane and must find its way back to your body, at which point you will not be able to suffer spirit loss again for at least an hour.

This happens when a player intentionally kills you after beating you in a fight. Yes, you can lose spirit (which eventually will lead to you not being able to make it back to your body, which would then mean Perma-death)

#3 Perma-death. Your character is dead, time to create a new one. This happens when your spirit can no longer make it back to your body, either due to old age, too much spirit drain due to multiple coup de grace, or because you died in place that makes your body unrecoverable (the ocean, a volcano)

Sure a "spark of life" costs $40. instead of the monthly $15 we are used to, however that life has the potential for lasting a real-life year. Here is what the game designer/lead Developer had to say on the subject: “Typical play will cause you to live for 8-12 months, even with fairly regular coup de grace.” – Caspian

Even if he is wrong and you die twice as fast as he thinks, you still have 4 – 6 months of life for your $40 spark, compared to spending $60 - $90 during the same amount of time via a standard subscription plan.

Please ask any questions you may have and I will try to answer them to best of my ability.

@Pookha - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEx_HF6QLVI   Although I would prefer to see you Captain of the local guard.

Oh, I'm glad you cleared that up, when you were explaining on TS I understood that #2 meant time to spend $40 that had me worried as I felt like a griefer could cost me $40 by ganking me and cutting my head off. If you're saying getting my head chopped off only results in a couple days off of my base 1 year IRL character lifespan, then ya I'm totally down with this pay model. That said I would still expect to see free content updates due to the steady stream of income this game should have. Things like new zones opening up, however they choose to introduce that to the players...

Each server is an open world with a continent roughly 25 times larger than the world in Skyrim, it will contain multiple biomes and a dozen different tribes of Mann. Six kingdoms per server with twelve duchies per kingdom, twenty-four counties per duchy and who knows how many towns and citadels.

ESO is a Survival MMO so new technologies and resources will open up as time progresses, the lead dev has said that there will be no sailing and discovery outside the starting continent until after such technology was discovered.

@Kitty - Actually the game has not hit those stages yet. Currently the timeline is:

Ongoing Website Upgrades

Prologue: The Awakening (Offline Demo available to all backers. Here is a sample of pre-alpha game footage from PAX East https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXA3QABzw2Q)

Domain and Settlement Selection via Website (If you plan to be a noble...you probably want to have backed by this point, or you're going to be getting the absolute leftovers in terms of territories)

Kingdoms of Elyria & Elyria MUD (Website-driven games that serve to establish the political and diplomatic climate of each server prior to launch)

Alpha 1

Alpha 2

Beta 1

Beta 2

Exposition (Backers at Bloodline Tier or higher get into the game. This is NOT the same as playing the game, this is a heavily restricted time in which the land-owners get to build up their stuff, and place all of their backer rewards before the game actually launches)

Game Launch

Even though the game will not be out for a while (2018+) the "land Selection" phase that is coming up is going to play a huge part in where we as a guild (or just a collection of guild mates) may be playing. For instance: Let us say that a GSGH member has backed the game at the Count level, it would behoove me as a Mayor (and guild mate) to choose a town in this County instead of one belonging to someone else. I would be very unhappy to have to raise my sword in defense of my town against attackers only to find them to be guild mates that chose a different King to serve.

In its latest announcement SBS posted the official list of kingdoms on the various servers.   https://iis-prod.chroniclesofelyria.com/forum/topic/21968/the-official-launch-kingdoms-of-elyria

As the mayor of the town of Praxx, I have chosen the Luna (NA-East) server and the Kingdom of Vornair, although I have yet to align with any of his dukes or counts at present. If any of my fellow guild mates hold the title of Count or Duke on Luna (NA-East) let me know and I would much rather keep my pledges of loyalty within the guild. [CoE Forum User Name: Jourfrend_Jojo]

In other MMOs each server would be a copy of another kingdom-wise, and factions would be entirely NPC controlled with we the players as mere fodder for the game's endless battles. In CoE we get to align with a player-run, player-driven faction which is why I would urge those that are considering this game to take a look at the link above, and visit the various kingdoms mentioned for your possible fit in the game.

In choosing a server be mindful of your "ping", as the developers have said that it will be an issue and advise players to choose their home server based on proximity.

REMINDER: The Chronicles of Elyria layaway program will be ending at the end of April, if you have a package on layaway you have until April 30th to pay it off, otherwise you will lose said package and will receive store credit for what you have paid into it.

The game will be entering into pre-alpha very soon so let's be ready.

Any updates since the last post? I somewhat stopped following when they dropped Improbable as I cannot see how they can manage the level of complexity they're aspiring for without it... would love any insight that may change my mind as this was a game for which I held real excitement.

If you are looking at getting a package that grants you a "Surname" (i.e Bloodline), you will need to register your surname on the server you are primarily going to play on. The servers are split up by region NA-W (Angelica), NA-E (Luna), EU (Selene) and Oceania (Oceanus).

Starting in the next week or so will be Domain and Settlement Selection, where Kings will choose their kingdoms (pretty much set in stone so far on each server); Dukes will then choose their duchies and this is where is gets interesting as while those dukes that have already sworn fealty to a kingdom have already hashed out where they'll be placing, there is the very real probability that a non-aligned Duke with more IP may take the land instead. After dukes, comes counts with the same chance for other freelance Counts to choose land that a sworn count may have wanted. At the Aristocrat (Mayor, Baron, Governor) level freelancers become more of an annoyance than kingdom-wide problem.

I have heard several kingdoms already state that "freelance interlopers" will be seen as hostile invaders. So while the actual game may not be out for another year or so, the "Dance of Dynasties" has been going on outside the game at COE's website anf on their Discord channels. It is about to get pretty interesting overt the next few months.

So where will GSGH be? Do we have a server of preference? Or, will be spread out across all four servers? Do we have any Mayor, Baron, Governor, Count, or Duke packages in the guild? [I myself am a Governor and will have a town that members of GSGH is welcome in].

Ass always,

Joseph

Not at purchase, but when you go to register the surname. Yes, if you want to join me and others in the town of Praxx, you are more than welcome. However, I don't want to step on any of Fog's or the Elder's plans for where they are placing. if they have towns, counties or duchies of their own. But, I am still not sure what GSGH's plans are for CoE.

Not sure of anyone with packages of Mayor or higher here in Gaiscioch at this point. At this time, Jairone (not sure of his package level) and myself are watching this game and are currently registered on the NA-W - Angelica server. He is with some friends from other games and I got to know them when doing the Searing Plague event they had going last year, which I also did a write up on. I have no money to invest but at least I have an Elyrian package from doing the Searing Plague event. I have an article coming out on 4/8/2019 to coincide with the Domain and Settlement Selection event announcement. So I've been lurking a lot and managing to do some fun articles around their bigger events.

Don't mess with Mama Bear, I might hug you too tight. =D

I was looking at Angelica in the beginning, but after talking it over with others, I decided to go Luna. Looking over that server, I found the Kingdom of Vornair to be the most structured and invested in the game, and far less drama than a couple of the other Kingdoms on Luna. I am currently looking at the Duchy of Trausthafen; and during D&SS I will be searching the coastline of said duchy for a site to place my city. Because the duchy borders a neighboring kingdom I foresee plenty of combat pvp opportunities as peace between the kingdoms breaks down, which is why I will put priority on coastal settlements that are furthest from the border first and work my way towards the kingdom border. I have already informed the duke of Trausthafen of my intentions, and that if I found no suitable location in his duchy I would look elsewhere along Vornair's coastline.

With this game, I am looking at my town, "Praxx" as being my main character and my mayor and his family line as its alts that will ensure the "character" survives the ten-year story arc. I will unveil more details about Praxx as NDA allows and I as I develop more of it. So far I know that the focus of the town is on trade (maritime more so than overland), which means having a shipyard and harbor, which in turn means that I'll need a good source of wood and iron nearby. As an astronomer, I thought it would be nice to try and corner the market on telescope technology and lenses crafting as a family run business for the Crystalmiir's (my surname in game).

In game I will be the mayor of Praxx and oversee the running of the town. I will also have a merchant-adventurer that will seek out new trade routes and new lands over the horizon. On the Angelica server, I will have a kypiq cartographer/amateur sleuth who carries wanted posters everywhere he goes and posts them in the towns he visits. My part in making sure griefers and their characters have no NPC allies in game and that the player base knows who they are.

And I'm gonna be Praxx's Poop Scoop. If you have poop, but no means to scoop just yell "poop scoop! I need this poop scooped!" and I'll come running! Also tips are appreciated.

I can understand the drama of Angelica after having written my article and I talked to the king of the kingdom you want to play in Seo for Luna. He is a pretty cool guy. I'm already thinking I'll need the most popcorn when watching Angelica D&SS as compared to the other servers. I might have to invest in a snack shop to get through it. ROFL. I do plan to write another article of what the different servers actually look like once the dust has settled with D&SS and any title sale runs that pop up shortly thereafter due to Kickstarterversary incentives. I'm still looking to play on Angelica despite the drama fest since I've made quite a few friends there when doing the Searing Plague and map selection events last year. Not sure if I'll do what I keep joking about or wind up with something different, but looking at being a scribe and even work on things to make scribing better, maybe even try to figure out a printing press depending on where our state of invention really is at the time of launch.

Where I will be on Angelica - it depends where the king we are following gets to go and then where the count I pledged to really gets his land. A lot of where we end up will help me decide what to do for my first character.

Don't mess with Mama Bear, I might hug you too tight. =D

Yeah, Luna and Angelica actually both have their own little issues.  What I think is the biggest drama with Angelica is mostly just chest thumping, given knowledge of people involved and those who are in duchies there (who would in turn tell the hotheads to cool off.)  I actually think Luna will see more long term fighting over things, and less free movement, until ocean exploration opens up at the least.

Dates involved with D&SS: https://chroniclesofelyria.com/forum/topic/30960/domain-settlement-selection-begins-april-29th

Hail and fair weather, Elyrians!

The long-awaited, highly-anticipated, often-speculated Domain & Settlement Selection is coming very, very soon! We're talking April 29th soon.

What It Is

Many MMO players have long wanted to take a plot of land, a town, or entire region and cultivate it as their own. To build something, to create a legacy, to leave a mark on the world! In Chronicles of Elyria, we are giving players the opportunity to have in-game lands afforded by the titles purchased as part of a pledge package, or earned, traded for, or won as part of an event or contest. There are kings and queens, dukes and duchesses, counts and countesses, and mayors who have bled or survived plague for the opportunity to build their legacy in Elyria.

Each server has its own unique map, each broken down into Kingdoms, Duchies, Counties, and containing individual Settlements of various sizes. On the starting continent, each one of these regions is up for grabs to the set of players with land titles. Starting on April 29th, these title-holders are going to be able to browse the map of their server and claim, at last, the lands they wish to call their own! Between the kings and queens of each server, the entire landmass of the starting continent will be included as part of one of their kingdoms. Below them, dukes and duchesses will become their vassals and claim titles to the many duchies that comprise each kingdom. Each duke or duchess will oversee a plethora of counties and the vassal counts or countesses who claim them. They, in turn, will play the liege lord to numerous, individual Settlements run by Mayors or Barons.

Domain & Settlement Selection is when the titles in people's hearts, minds, and inventories become a real place on the Elyrian map!

With this hierarchy comes great responsibility. Individual players in Elyria, those without land or titles to hold them down, will want to go where living is good. This might mean favorable weather, bountiful food, job opportunities, a strong economy, or a fitting system of law and government. Having land will be a burden if there is no one to work it, so each titled land-owner will be vying for a healthy population and bustling economy for their lands. This is a key element of the pillars of Chronicles of Elyria's design: having a dynamic, evolving, open world where nations rise and fall, even as opportunities abound, due almost entirely to the efforts of the players running the world!

How To Participate

Domain & Settlement Selection is a great, big step toward the immersive world we are bringing to you, our community. For 4 weeks, starting on April 29, accounts that have a land title and have selected their primary server will be allowed to claim their lands, separated by title tier and in order of influence. Those who haven't selected a server by April 22 will be allowed to claim after the end of the 4th week (May 27). You will be given a timer, based off your title tier and influence, to inform you of when you will be able to claim. This timer is when you can issue a claim on a property, but is not the first time you can see the map.

Maps will be available to browse for all, not just title holders, in a web app on our website. Due to the image size, both in megabytes to download and visual scale, we strongly advise only browsing on a computer, not a phone or tablet.

Week 1: Kingdoms - April 29-May 5

All server-selected Kingdom title holders will be allowed to claim domains and a settlement, in influence order, for all claimed titles on their account (kingdoms, duchies, counties, settlement)

Week 2: Duchies - May 6-May 12

All server-selected Duchy title holders will be allowed to claim domains and a settlement, in influence order, for all claimed titles on their account (duchies, counties, settlement)

Week 3: Counties - May 13-May 19

All server-selected County title holders will be allowed to claim domains and a settlement, in influence order, for all claimed titles on their account (counties, settlement)

Week 4: Settlements - May 20-May 26

All server-selected Settlement title holders will be allowed to claim, in influence order, their settlement

Week 5+: Open - May 27-TBD

All remaining title holders of all tiers will be allowed to claim their domains or settlement on a first-come, first-served basis.

For additional details on what kind of information you'll be able to see on the map, the naming requirements, and other details, head over to the Domain & Settlement Selection Details post.

Here is a link to the various server maps: https://chroniclesofelyria.com/domains#/

On the Luna server, I am looking to place in the Kingdom of Vornair, in the Duchy of "The Bark" (Trausthafen, being the name it will have once the duke claims it). With my first choice being in the county currently called, "Harbeward" and then taking over the village of "Sage Horn" to be renamed Praxx and built up into a town+ depending on what I can do with it before launch.

As back up plans, I am also looking at two other places in the same duchy. The first being the village of "Gulegale" in the county of "Upper Trent", with the least desirable choice being the hamlet of "Huntwall" in the county of CrossSpider Glen.

Did i read this wrong?   in one  part they are saying they are against pay to win, by  being able to buy stuff in game with real money,  and in another sentence that's exactly what they  said,  being able to buy in-game gold with real money , to buy in-game items.

Dirkdaring:  You have to recognize that CoE isn't your typical game with regard to purchasing or obtaining stuff either.  Crafting plays a huge role, there's supply lines that have to happen, and if something is important enough you might not even be allowed to purchase regardless of having the money if you lack in fame or ties to the people involved.  Essentially anything they wish to buy has to be gathered, available, crafted, etc.  So where somebody might buy a bunch of supplies for their craft, or a house that they like this way... there are so problems going too far.  There might be some dropped items, but most of it will be very specific to story, and as such likely to be rare and jealously guarded for novelty above use.

I would also note that since most trade that wouldn't be with other players will be highly limited by what is already made, and that unless the person happens to know the groups involved (as most player traders will be tied to a group and suspicious of sudden large amounts of gold from who-knows-where) that it would be hard to utilize this for major things.  Further, hostile actions would require a decent sized force of NPC and player mercenaries, which are a supply side issue, and likely to not only arouse suspicion but competition from the lords in an area at the same time.

It is of some concern, but I don't think we will see "Whale power 10000!" as a big problem.  I expect that this will be more of a factor where people who want to be very casual and have some cash to dump will use it... but we shall have to see.

Dirkdaring: Yes, real life money can be used to purchase in-game money "EP credits" with which you can buy in-game items. However, that is only in the first phase of the game, before the game goes live, in the world-building "crowd funding" stage. Once the game goes live there will no linger be real money for in-game items or money portion to the game. (At least this is the current situation, but I don't see the company changing it).

On the US West front, the hamlet of Meirzo Becarzan is a safe haven (as far as any such place can be) for all people aligned with Gaiscioch.  It was somewhat handed to me to run as somebody decided not to be a mayor, and the group I have been in multiple games with passed it to me to help supply the town nearby that is directly part of the group (smaller group).  The entire county is the bigger group that I introduced Briseadh to with the searing plague event.

I would love to see people go over with Trithian **and SeosamhJojo over on NA-E**, just feel free for those on NA-W to swing by.  Especially if I know you are coming, I can relay friendly status to the community.  So if you need somewhere to stop while travelling for any reason, or want to check out the area, you are welcome!

For any who do decide to check out the game and want to meet people in the group I am running with, just let me know.  I do suggest parental awareness if you have young ones, as they are not strictly a family friendly group, but it's not exactly a hive of scum and villainy either...

Similar to Jairone, I am also on US West. I am in a different kingdom though. I have a Grand County (6 counties in one) with a lot of land mass, across two biomes, Shrub Steppe, and Woodland Savannah. I am the Kingdom of Blackhearts Master of Beast. My focus will be on animal husbandry and farming. There are two large pvp groups that are my neighbors which will help provide a safe place for those who prefer less pvp. (like myself) I too can offer to introduce anyone to the Kingdom of Blackheart. Parental awareness also required. Part of this group can get a bit out of hand but the Duchy I am in is absolutely amazing. (Duchess has a 7-8 year old so it tends to be a bit more family friendly) The Duchess is also crazy organized which shows in some of her spreadsheets, lists, charts, etc.

Our kingdom meets for PAX West each year. It has ranged from 15-40 people that attend. A lot of us have gotten really close and feel like family. The duchess and I share a hotel suite at PAX West. I was going to bring her with me to the GSCH meetup last PAX West but it was the same night as our SBS Dev dinner and meet up and she was on cooking duty.

If anyone ever wants to talk about Chronicles of Elyria please reach out to me. I am very invested (6 counties) and keep up to date in the Q&A's and released info as much as possible.
