You might live in Michigan, if...

MICHIGAN... according to Jeff Foxworthy:

If your local Dairy Queen is closed from September through May, you may live in Michigan.

If someone in a Home Depot store offers you assistance and they don't even work there, you may live in Michigan.

If you've worn shorts and a jacket at the same time, you may live in Michigan.

If you've had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number, you may live in Michigan.

If "vacation" means going anywhere North of Grand Rapids for the weekend, you may live in Michigan.

If you measure distance in hours, you may live in Michigan.

If you know several people who have hit a deer more than once, you may live in Michigan.

If you have switched from 'heat' to 'A/C' in the same day and back again, you may live in Michigan.

If you can drive 75 mph through 2 feet of snow during a raging blizzard without flinching, you may live in Michigan.

If you install security lights on your house and garage, but leave both doors unlocked, you may live in Michigan.

If you carry jumpers in your car and your wife knows how to use them, you may live in Michigan.

If you design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit, you may live in Michigan.

If the speed limit on the highway is 70 mph -you're going 80 and everybody is passing you, you may live in Michigan.

If driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow, you may live in Michigan.

If you know all 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter and road construction, you may live in Michigan.

If you have more miles on your snow blower than your car, you may live in Michigan.

If you find 10 degrees "a little chilly", you may live in Michigan.

If you actually understand these jokes, you definitely do live - or have lived- in Michigan.

I live in NW Pennsylvania near Lake Erie and can relate to pretty much all of the list. I'd add one more (especially for those in W Michigan or on the upper peninsula), "You hate the words 'Lake Effect Snow' but can explain the term more thoroughly than most meteorologists."

Those all apply to most northern or mountain states. The only unique things I've ever noticed about Michigan are that there's no such thing as a left turn (you have to make a right, then turn around at the next light), and any time you ask someone from Michigan which part they're from, they always, *always* hold up their hand and point to it.

Living in the Catskills I can relate though in the past couple decades it just doesn't seem as wintery here as it used to. Though we have had some whopping northeasters. Hence the following true deal I had when working at MCI in 1996. You know you are talking to an out of touch southerner when told to dispatch to fix a customer problem and they have no response for you when you ask them to supply a snowmobile in order to travel over three feet of snow. Here's a redneck one based upon something that happened to me this year: You might be a redneck if your well stops pumping water to your trailer due to a mouse trying to get warm in your pressure switch.

Don't mess with Mama Bear, I might hug you too tight. =D

Lived in many places over the years, and I can honestly say the Winters in Mich are not the worst. The worst was the S. Wisconsin/N. Illinois Winters, simply because of the wind that NEVER stops.

My husband is from Traverse City, so I guess he was always on vacation. I completely agree with 10 being a little chilly..for me 65 is a bit chilly....for him about 10. No mention of the road numbers there. I drove up US 131 and notice a 2 mile road, then a 3 mile road, 4 mile, then another 2 mile road...wth?! There had to have been about five 2 mile roads off of US 131 as I drove up it. How do you know which one to take?! Also, the Cherry Festival was the first time I ever saw a bed race. Those Michiganers =D

lol the mile roads are individual to the counties they are in, im almost certain. At least Mi has #'s for roads, Wisconsin has letters, cty rd Y, or T etc. Illinois was the 1st place I ever saw "outhouse" races, and my 1st Combine Derby. Outside of Chicago, Illinois is its own Hickerbilly Nation.

If any state hold the honor of making you turn right to go left it NJ.

@Diella: That's funny, because out west we called it a "Michigan Left". I never really understood why until I visited Michigan.

I live in Wisconsin, 'nough said. Except for the pothole one, WI roads are nice but MI allows the road-trains (super heavy trucks with about 10 axles) these things chew the road surface like rabbit in a cabbage field.

Gotta be a Southern Michigan thing, because up here in the styx where I live, we just turn left into oncoming traffic and pray for the best :) Not a lot of lights on dirt roads though, and the stop signs are hanging in people's garages instead of on the sign posts where they should be.

Great stuff. I come from Grand Rapids. I've lived in a bunch of places over the years thanks to the Navy, but Michigan has always had the right mix of crazy and sane to keep us on our toes. Every new place I go, and all the new people I meet, I can always tell those that are from the Wisconsin/Michigan area.. we are the only ones wearing shorts while everyone else is in Ugg boots and puffer jackets.

I have never lived in Michigan but my coworker is from Detroit. She says much of that when she speaks of home. I grew up in Phoenix, AZ and I say most of AZ has 3 seasons - hot, hotter and OMG PEOPLE LIVE HERE???? The rest of AZ is a perfect 4 seasons with no extremes.

I lived in Michigan for 30 years, spent last year in Baltimore, now I'm in Lexington, and I CAN'T STAND people who can't drive in the snow! Gotta say though, I don't mind some nice 75 degree weather through November :D

Haha, I'm probably one of those snow drivers you can't stand. I grew up in Florida and my snow driving lesson when I moved to Minnesota consisted of "drive slow and if you slide, it happens". So I slide, quite frequently, or drive 25 mph everywhere. You'd think with all the time I spent in Michigan as a kid with my grandparents I'd know something about snow and ice, but nope. Mom spared us and usually took us in the summer :)
