So Steam is having another sale on games.
What games should I get? (I only have Elder Scrolls).
Do you have a particular type of game you like (like shooters, or strategy, or RPG)? It's difficult to suggest something without any idea what types of games appeal to you.
Some great games that I'm sure will be pretty cheap.
1. Bastion - It's kinda short, but one of the few games I would give a perfect 100/100 rating. The combat is fun. The music is awesome. And the storyteller is pretty funny. On sale, it'll probably cost like $3.
2. Borderlands 2- This is one of the best games I've ever played. It's a great co-op shooter with tons of great DLCs and an awesome story. I recommend Borderlands 1 if you haven't played it as well. You're call, but if you decide to get them both BL2 has a bunch of cool things related to BL1 so I would play BL1 first. GotY costs around $20-30 for BL2, but just the game is probably 10-20 or maybe even less.
3.Counter Strike:Global Offensive- If you like shooters, Counter Strike: Global Offensive should be pretty cheap (>$5.00) and I've had much more fun with it than any Call of Duty game.
4. Dark Souls:Prepare to Die Edition- I recommend this game, but I do have a bit of a warning. You will die. Millions and millions of times. It's an extremely difficult game where you learn by dying, but the moment you kill that tough boss finally after a few hours is really amazing. Should be around $5-$10
5.Fallout 3:GotY Edition- If you like the Elder Scroll, check out Bethesda's post apocalyptic (and better than Skyrim) open world game. The game is a few years old, but still my favorite game of all time. It should be around $5. I really recommend getting the GotY, not going to say why, because it's a spoiler, but one of the DLCs is kinda necessary.
6. Any of the total war games- I've spent thousands of hours on this series of games. They are turn based strategy games that are very in depth, but have real time battles. Medieval II:Total War is my favorite because of some of the amazing mods that people have made. Rome: Total War (1 not 2, haven't played 2 yet) is my 2nd favorite. Basically, find a period of history you like (Rome, Medieval, Japanese samurais, Imperialism) and give it a try. Medieval II and Rome 1 are probably $5-10. To give you perspective I have ~700 hours on Medieval II, and ~300 on Rome. Empire:Total War will probably be around $10. Shogun 2 is one of the newer ones, and I just didn't like the history that went with it so I didn't enjoy it as much. I haven't played Rome 2, but I've heard good and bad things about it, so I can't say much.
7.Mount and Blade- This is another really fun game. It's a strategy hack and slash game. You can fight battles on horseback with armies of 100 at your side. The Warband expansion is good for a better vanilla, but M&B vanilla has all the great mods on it. This game should be around $5 for both M&B and M&B:W.
8. Civilization V - A great strategy turn based game. This is probably one of the more expensive ones on this list because it holds value extremely long. I'm yet to meet a person that didn't enjoy Civ V. I haven't played the two expansions so can't really tell ya how they are, but I've only heard good things. Probably costs around $15.
TL;DR:
1.Bastion. Short and fun smashem game. $3
2.Borderlands 2. Great co-op shooter game. One of my favorites. BL2: $10, BL2 GotY:$25, BL1 GotY:$5
3.Counter Strike:Global Offensive- better version of CoD. Fun game modes. $4
4.Dark Souls:Prepare to Die Edition. You will die. Alot. But dying can be fun. $7
5.Fallout 3 GotY: My favorite game ever. Open world post apocalyptic game. $7
6.Total War games. Great in-depth strategy games. Medieval II and Rome my recommended. Medieval II : $5, Rome: $3, Empire:$5, Napoleon: $5, Shogun 2: $10, Rome 2: $30.
7. Mount and Blade. Great hack and slash game. M&B: $5, M&B Warband: $8
8.Civ V. Great turn based strategy game. $8
All the prices are what I guess they will be at their best sale. Good luck and happy hunting. I'll be happy to answer any questions you have!
I don't know what all is on sale, but Schaab is dead on w/ anything Fallout or Total War. M&B is a bit quirkier, but if you get it, go for the Warband version and find a nice mod on the Nexus.
I think some of the Dragon Age stuff is on sale, and those are worth playing. Same for Knights of the Old Republic. The Walking Dead Season 1 is on sale, and it's a great story game. XCOM: Enemy Unknown and The Bureau: XCOM Declassified are lots of fun (though the Bureau has some control issues on harder difficulties). If you're interested in long-term epic strategy games, Crusader Kings 2 is on sale, and is one of my favorites. If you like shooters w/ good story, the Deus Ex series is worth it. If you want a zombie survival game State of Decay is the best money I've ever spent to buy a game full-price on Steam, and it is on sale.
I just noticed the Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition games are on sale too. If you've never played those, they are some great old-school party rpgs.
If you are into adventures i recommend the Walking Dead one and the Wolf Among Us, both from Telltale games. Both are excelent.
If you are into strategy games i recommend FTL: Faster than Light. It's an amazing game and very adictive.
If you like survival games get Don't Starve. It's pretty cool and fun to play.
If you like plataformers get Braid and Mark of the Ninja. Both are awesome.
Other than that it depends on what you like. The ones above are so good that even if you don't specially like that exact kind of game you will still enjoy them.
Well, if you haven't picked up anything yet, Borderland 2 Game of the Year Edition (comes with the DLC's) went on sale today. $15
Fallout New Vegas is also a good option. Non-linear, open world game.
GUNS OF ICARUS! :D
It's PvP AIRSHIP BATTLES. And it's all steampunk! HOW COULD YOU NOT WANT THAT!?
Thank you everyone for your input! I've got some deciding to do. So many games.. so little time!
I really appreciate all the suggestions.
Dust: An Elysian Tail.
It's only $3.75 right now. GRAB IT. This game is more than worth it.
About a month ago I picked a an X-Box 360 controller and started using it with my Steam games. So much more fun than using keyboard mouse controls.
I barely touched Borderlands 2 when I bought it last a while ago. Now I can't put the game down!
Bioshock games are fun. Really liked liked Dishonored.
BTW today is the day of the sale I think. Bioshock Infinite is $9.99, Borderlands 2 is $7.49, Saints Row 4 is 19.99, Tomb Raider is $9.99.
