Business Model (Pricing, Subscription, etc)

They just posted on the site the business model of the game. Personally i am kind of the disappointed.

http://www.wildstar-online.com/en/news/the_business_model_of_wildstar.php

I am ok with the subscription model, specially if there is no cash shop. However on an interview on Gamebreaker they said the cash shop might still be an option.

Also the ideia of the CREDD is kind of risky in this kind of MMO. It works well on EVE, with PLEX, because there are plenty of money skins in that game and the economy is pretty much player driven. However i don't see how they are going to create enough money sinks to do the same here.

I think CREDD might make the economy go out of control, and depending on how important money is in the game it can seriously affect how we play the game.

Right now i am kind of worried that this game is going to be another one of those that launch as P2P and 6 months after is making a transition to F2P.

I don't know any MMO in recent years that has been p2p and then didn't go f2p later. The transition from sub to f2p sucks, having done it twice now with STO and SWTOR. I'd rather they just did f2p from the start.

Given that Wildstar is already targeting a niche market (ie. hardcore players), I expected at least buy to play, if not entirely free to play. Mortal Online, the polar end of hardcore mode, launched with a sub but successfully switched to free to play - and even as an MMOG most people have never heard of still thrives.

I think you are right: it'll probably only have a sub for a few months, recoup some dev costs, and switch to a B2P or F2P model. Hopefully it ends up like Mortal and not SWTOR in the process.

**edited post due to change of heart to how pricing works. After playing FFXIV: ARR and back to paying a sub and enjoying trinity combat again I am now very interested in how Wildstar will move this model forward and look forward to trying this game out.

It is with much sadness that I now realize how much of a casual player I have become. At one time I would have cheered this model but since I am never sure when I might be able to play and for how long I am just not inclined to pay for a sub any more. There is still a hardcore player in here somewhere, I think..maybe he fell asleep.
