I just wanted to check and see if anybody else was going to be playing in this upcoming beta weekend (starting March 8th).
Keep in mind this is under nda. Do not discuss outside of the nw program
Is there a NDA? Just wondering, I haven't bought a "package" yet, supposed to have won a free one in a contest last summer, but still waiting on the details from TenTonHammer. These are just preview weekends, afaia aware. I don't think there is a Closed Beta, if there is its very limited access and invite only, of which even I can't seem to find out about. As a matter of fact, I haven't even gotten details about access to the weekend event via my CO lifetime account, much less my E3 "supposedly Beta key". Its kind of weird, they're being awfully "cryptic" about it all... >_>
Yes there is closed testing and there is a nda
I understand the need to be careful with NDA and its better to be safe then sorry but this game isnt under a NDA fog. Sorry for the confusion but the quote below is from the official faq on the forums written by a dev. I only took the part needed but I will link the post also. Currently, it is possible to see the beta forums, even if you do not have beta access. Since the beta is not covered by an NDA, we are working to make it so that the beta forums are accessible to everyone. As of this moment, this effort is partially complete. here is the post address http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?18401-Neverwinter-Extended-FAQ
If anyone has a beta invite for this weekend up for grabs I would be interested in making use of it.
MMORPG.com is giving away beta weekend 3(this weekend) keys right now.
yay ty! Just grabbed a key from MMORPG, at the time of writing this there are 6975 keys left.
I was able to get one here: http://www.mmobomb.com/giveaway/neverwinter-beta-keys-3

They're also tossing batches of keys out like candy on their Twitter feed. Mine is via my CO account, so I don't think I get a key that I can give away.
There is no NDA for the Neverwinter beta, only the Neverwinter Foundry beta. You can even go to the beta forums and read them if you are interested in the game, although I would recommend against it.
Yeah only the foundry has a beta NDA . I have a champions Online lifetime account so it got me into the rest of the beta since the last beta. I tried it but really could not get into it. It reminded me of diablo 3 and DDO had a child. It would make a ok distraction but I would even say that diablo 3 and DDO had better cohesion and more reason to play.
I just got key fro Beta Weekend 3 Event. I will by trying this out for bit this weekend. Most likely will be character named MikeyDee or Neha. Depending on my mood.
Ceru check your msgs sent you something that might help.
I had trouble until i changed my perfect world email to gmail.
Cryptic password no longer works, I believe you still have to convert your Cryptic account to Perfect World account. Something of note... Perfect World password system will not recognize extended characters. I had to get Perfect World support to reset my password, then I got stuck again because I used extended characters, then after some detective work on my part, I discovered that the problem was that their password system accepted extended characters when creating a password, but was not recognizing them, so I used alpha-numeric only and alerted them about the problem.

Ya Volkoth the game engine seems old doesn't it? If the combat felt more smooth/responsive I would happily overlook the graphic quality EDIT: switching to directx 11 helps me a lot with these concerns. Hopefully they can put another layer of polish on the game yet.
I do enjoy the type of spells/abilities a lot more than GW2 combat though. No matter what class I try in GW2 I don't feel like I am doing anything awesome; (oh, look I applied boons to my allies and red things on my enemies! woot!) just going through the motions until the battle is over. Neverwinter's Cleric on the other hand has skills that are fun to use such as a giant bird swooping down to flatten the enemy.

The way I look at Neverwinter is basically the ultimate virtual table top for D&D and soooo much more. Now that's not to under sell Neverwinter in any way. So please don't take it that way. In fact it should be an excellent selling point ( yes I know it'll be free to play). From what I understand it's a mmorpg that comes basically preloaded with a lot of the adventures of D&D set up in a world type setting. Basically trying to combine the old Neverwinter Nights with todays mmo's. YET!! Still lets you create your own adventures. And I do mean create it. From the bottom up. You create the map, you create the characters, you create the story and then offer it up for every one to play it through. You become the Dungeon master yet you don't have to sit at the table and call out dice rolls. The game takes all the rules and dice throws from D&D and puts it in a game program to do it all for you. That in itself is a huge thing that sets Neverwinter apart from any other mmo out there. But even if you never wanted to create your own adventure. Even if you don't want to have any thing to do with being a Dungeon Master. There are TONS and I do mean TONS of people that love to do that. So you can basically play through an endless amount of content that's created by other players and by Neverwinter programers. I have no idea how Neverwinter plans on connecting it all together but if they succeed it should turn out to be beyond fantastic. Yes more then likely it wont have the polished feel of GW2 but that's ok with me. Back in the days of Neverwinter Nights I had a friend who created his own world and allowed me to put my own home in it. Using the tool set I just made it and then sent him the file to add it to his world. Now get this. My house that I myself created was set as a Mansion. Inside was 15 bedrooms fully furnished, Massive dining hall, huge patio with a very large garden to walk through, A fully functional casino ( yes you could gamble with in game currency at the slot machines, black jack table or craps table.), An arena that once you entered you was flagged for PvP, An NPC gladiator arena in which you could talk to an NPC and that NPC would then spawn any number of leveled NPC creatures for you to fight with your friends. Along with much much more. Long and short of it I was only limited by my imagination. If that's what Neverwinter turns out to be I think it could turn out to be a fantastic game for us to get together and play. Will it replace GW2 for me? No not at all. But during times in which I need a break from GW2 I think it would be great to do some Dungeon crawling with my fellow guildies. Or take some time and create my own adventure for people to play.
Beta again this weekend...get your keys sorted!
From what I've read, Beta Weekend 4 (this coming weekend) is only open to "players who purchased Hero of the North Founder's Pack, or redeemed a new Friend key from this pack, or purchased a Guardian of Neverwinter Pack" (source). So I don't think there will be the same key giveaways there were the last couple of BWEs. Open beta for all starts April 30, and characters created in open beta won't be wiped. I played in BWE3 and had fun with my Cleric, so will definitely be pottering around during open beta :)
Unless they changed something people who had lifetime subs in STO and CO get access to all the beta tests after they were let in during beta phase 2 so they would also have access to this one. They do not need keys because there accounts were flagged with beta access from beta 2.
It looks like Neverwinter will *truly* be free to play - including no cost to download the client: Q: How much will Neverwinter cost? Will there be a subscription required? Neverwinter will be a free-to-play game. There will be no cost for the client, and no subscription fee will be required. (Maybe enough people paid $200 for the "founder's pack" so they could get into the beta). lol :) Seriously, I can wait until the game goes live to download it for free. I used to love playing NWN years ago.
That's been the model since they changed it last year. It was originally a buy w/sub, but they decided to go with the F2P model... oh, about this time last year, iirc.
