So, with the imminent release of the new SimCity, who all is gonna get it? It's online-only, which some people have expressed negative emotions toward. And even more negative emotions thrown at it for being EA and origin (not a personal fan of EA, but I am a sucker for sim games, and simcity even more so). I ask this here because you can actually play it with others online, which I thought was pretty awesome.

It will be released in US/NA on the 5th of March (less than a week), while EU (or just britain, not sure)  gets it the 8th, and Australia gets it the 7th. Unfortunately, I won't be able to get it until May 6th at the earliest (as a birthday present), but I hope to get it, as I am a giant SimCity fan, and the thought of playing with others just makes me want it more. So, is anyone going to be getting this game?

In addition to videos on youtube, letsallbemayor.com is doing some playthroughs making certain cities each day for 4 hours, which has greatly increased my desire for this. They start at noon EST/9am PST and will be doing a new city each day until the release. First was a disaster city, where they unleashed many of the disasters over the 4 hour timeframe. Yesterday they attempted to make a Vegas-type casino city. And today they will attempt a "green" environmentally friendly city.

So, if anyone is going to purchase it, you can add my origin name to your friendlist (is the same as my Gaiscioch name), and we could possibly play it together.

I've loved every SimCity game that has come out. But due to the always on, online DRM and EA/Origins absolutely terrible customer support, I'm not even considering this one. :/

I love Sim City and may check it out if I have time. Mostly I will be focusing on GW2 though, and waiting for Elder Scrolls beta.

Intrested. I don't know where I'll find time to play this though. Less GW2? Maybe. I'll take a look online at the game and see if it can grab me and worth my money.

I definitely won't be getting this game. When I was growing up, Maxis was my favorite developer by far, and Sim City was my favorite game series. Ever since EA bought them, though, they have gone downhill (the only games that have come from them are Spore, the Sims, and that facebook game... eughhh) and don't seem to be stopping any time soon. Did any of you guys ever play that horrible "game" Sim City Societies? It wasn't made by Maxis, but Sim City still looks more like Societies 2 than Sim City 5, by far. It's a dumbed-down version of the genre, and I have no interest in that. I want a more complex city simulator, not a city simulator that I would've played when I was 10 years old (and still probably would've found mind-numbingly easy). You just build dinky little towns (I don't know why they didn't call it Sim Town instead) that are connected by arbitrary road systems, and the towns don't even touch so you can't make a giant region-city like you could in 4. Oh, plus it's on Origin. No way.

Girlfriend and I got it. We played a bit in the beta. Really enjoyed it. I never played Sim City Societies, so I'm not sure if it's similar to that at all, but it reminded me very much of playing the old Sim City games. In fact to me it seemed more involved and complex than the old Sim City games although I didn't play the last one or two maybe. Having your city in a region with two other cities that you can also control or have friends controlling is pretty cool. You help each other out. Then there's a global economy for resources as well which I didn't explore much. As for always online, DRM, blah blah blah. I play MMOs. Hello! I'm always connected and I'm always online anyhow so the whole always online, DRM "issue" so many people seem to have a problem with is a complete non-issue to me. And maybe I'm just strange but in my decades of gaming I can probably count on one hand the times I've had to interact with customer support with any game, so whether or not a company has crappy CS is pretty irrelevant to me as well. I'm probably a bad consumer, but if a product intrigues me or I think it'll be fun to play I'll buy it no matter who made it. I figure my fun is determined by me, not by some nameless entity I have no interaction with.

Honestly, even though I have convinced myself I'd hate this game if I ever played it, I'm still intrigued by it. It looks like something I could appreciate if I actually gave it a chance; however, I decided a year or two ago never to buy a game from EA again. Games were never as good as when every developer was independent. I also really can't tolerate being forced to use Origin (it has what I call "the Bing effect"... I never want to use Bing, regardless of it's quality, simply because it's shoved down my throat every five seconds). EA is really the only problem, the game itself is probably great. Oh yeah, and all that DLC that's planned for the game, just like in the Sims... there's just so much to rant about!!!

Ya I wish had kept my EA embargo. Simcity is a mess. I hope it gets some patching but right now the servers are either full/down/or disconnecting. The cities are so small I can hardly stand it anyway.

There are three reasons I wont buy this despite my love of the original games. 1. EA 2. Online only 3. SIMCITY Aussie servers This article has convinced me not to bother.
