Well somewhat. Sony had a event today to reveal the  next playstation. They told us of alot of new games  and the trailers for those games were quite impressive. They also mentioned the fact they may have backward compatible for ps3 games by streaming them from the ps3 to the ps4 and then saving them to the ps4. They showed a new controller for the ps4 that had a built in touchpad along with some other nice features. The big thing though is that they did not show what the system actually looked like. This made me alittle sad but the features coming changed that   fairly quickly and the trailers for the new gaming exclusives  like some  third person online shooters  and diablo 3 also Final fantasy XIV.  Heck if diabloe 3 can play on it I could almost imagine GW2 being on it eventually or somethign similar to a gw2 platform for the ps4.

One of the new features that has me wanting to buy one just for this function. One of the fondest memories of my past  involving console  gaming systems was playing games with my children and brother all together and commenting on there  game play . Everyone laughing so hard they felt there sides were going to burst. In the recent  console generation it seemed that tradition was going the way of the dino. Fear not though with the new PS4 they are introducing a new  feature called spectator. As the name implies you will be able to watch your friend play there game while sitting in the conforts of your own home .  However it would be like you were looking over his /her shoulder and would bring back all that which has been lost recently. They also mentioned  new and improved downloading capabilties for music and movies.  In the past there was talk about  having virtual movie theatre to watch current movies  from the comfort of your home.  While the videos did not mention any of this possible feature ocming. They did  speak with some of the people there about that being in the works for  handicapped and those who could not enjoy the  benefits of seeing a  new movie in a theatre. So looks like they might allow you to  rent a movie  that is playing in the theatres also.

There was alot more that was discussed but unfortunately i missed a majority of the event  and  I have been searchiung the net for tibits and piecing it together. I am curious with all the new info is anyone else besides me actually  seriously considering purchasing one. I may postpone my new pc plans  another year to optain a ps4.

PS4 1gen normal not worth it due to bugs as they had with ps3 gen1. So maybe down the road I would. But not anytime soon Final Fantasy and Soul Caliber games tend to be my only buys unless another Fantasy game caughts my eye

The backwards compatibility is not "exactly" how you described. Basically Sony bought last year a company called Gaikai for a technology similar to that of another, more well known called OnLive. This technology allows you to play full PC games through the internet, by sending the commands from your keyboard/mouse/gamepad to the servers, which then render the game and streams the resulting video feed to your computer. Sounds like black magic, but works really well (you can try OnLive for free, it works really well as long as you have a reasonable internet connection). So on the PS4, what they want is to enable you to play PSone, PS2 and PS3 games with this tech. The same concept can also enable a number of different uses. The PS4 comes with an internal encoder that saves everything you do to video, so you can: * play PS4 games on your PS Vita, by streaming the games on your local network * save videos of your gameplay and share them on Youtube * live broadcast your gameplay on UStream * let your friends watch your gameplay in real time, and even give them the option to take control of your console, so they can show you something in the game or help you with a tricky part ("Need help with jumping puzzles, please!!") It's some really cool tech, and really the highlight of the console in my opinion. Everything else was kinda expected, like better specs, new improved gamepad, etc.

You can download legacy games right now for the PS3, you just can't use PS1 or PS2 CDs on the newer generation models. You could on the Gen 1 and Gen 2 models, but the current Slim model has no backwards compat. Sadly, the Gen 2's were plagued with bad Blu-ray lasers, so not many of them still around. I lost mine, had to buy a new Slim, lost all my kid's PS2 games. Not really very happy with Sony and their PS3 development decisions, they went back on a lot of stuff they'd originally said about backwards compat, so I'd recommend being wary of anything said about PS4 right now.

My husband and I have a PS3 - we mainly got it so we could have a blu-ray player that also let us play PS games and had some nice console apps (like Netflix without the monthly fee that Xbox charges). We waited until it had been out a couple of years, both for the kinks to be worked out and for the price to come down. It looks like they do have some interesting features with the PS4, but I don't think we'll drop down a few hundred dollars for them.

For me and this next generation of console games the question of used games is key. There are so many games on the console that I buy only because I know I can sell them back. If they take that option away I will probably pass on the whole thing. Other than that I wonder how close MS is to being ready to announce the 720.

I dropped $1200 on a new computer, I can't afford consoles on top of that. Not to mention that consoles are overpriced and inferior to PC gaming already. AND consoles seem to be focusing more and more on Gimmicks and more interactive controls rather than any sort of actual gameplay or story. Tho this is not always the case. But the good part of this that devs will still hold back on making games for the highest level technology and increase the longevity of my PC. I just hate how if I want to play a specific game that is not on PC, I have to pay 400 dollars first.

I'm sorry but I cannot share in the excitement. Please dont get me wrong. I've been a long time PS'er. I still have my PS1, PS2 and PS3. Sadly I honestly find my PS2 to be more attractive then PS4. Like you I missed the old days of having friends over and we all play on the PS2. Then came along PS3 and yes I bought it. Yes very nice graphics. However if I wanted to play a game with my friends or family sitting beside me on the coach .... they basically had to buy another PS3. Multi-player via network became a real bummer. Oh but wait. Now we have PS4 and my friends can now "watch me play" .. heck they can even "Play for me" via network. They are right there beside me! Why does this even remotely appeal to me? lol Honestly I believe the most excited people that watched the announcement was probably Microsoft. I'm really debating on weather I am going to buy a PS4. Very disappointed... very very disappointed.

Don't sweat it OMJ, I also share your lack of enthusiasm over the PS4. They got me twice on the PS3, and even took away my ability to use PS2 DVDs on a forced upgrade (I had to buy a new Slim, which has no backwards compat). I'm still irritated about that, so they'll have to really bring something awesome to the table, that the PS3 just does not do, to get me to upgrade. That, or a total lack of support by developers for the PS3 for future games. Even then, I mostly use my device for BR-DVDs, so there will have to be some real awesomeness involved to get me to shell out several hundred $$$ for a new console.

I'm pretty sure I'll be skipping the ps4 and the wii-u. I don't play my ps3 enough now to justify the cost, especially when I prefer to play games with my wife, and it's just easier to find games to play together on the PC (our desks are right next to each other)
