Been in contact with jacobs for a while. Since he left myth8c. His company is using the profits from mobile games to provide the funsing for his project. Only unfortunate part is so far jacobs is the only original mythic on the team. I almost want to volunteer to write their hibernian story so they dont bork it this time ; P

MAJOR INTEREST!!! I recommend everyone read the Massively interview while not a lot is relieved, it does say some things that I've been waiting to hear from game developers for a long time. Basically that they are not afraid to refuse to conform to the modern day formula for MMORPG's. I will be donating to this cause!

Sadly this will not be a Gaiscioch expansion. Their taking a direction that would remove half our family from the equation. "As of now, the working title is Camelot Unchained. The game is an RvR-focused (almost no PvE) MMO that looks more to the past than the present for gameplay inspiration. " - Mark Jacobs "Multi-tiered subscription with no free-to-play option but with (maybe) some cosmetic items for housing. I think F2P and buy-to-play have their places, but we are trying to create a very niche-oriented MMORPG that won't benefit from using those models." - Mark Jacobs "The total budget will be over $10 million, of which we need about half to launch the game." - Mark Jacobs There are several Red Flags on his interview that would prevent us from launching a branch in his game. While I love Mark to death unfortunately his game is not designed with our families needs in mind. So Sadly unless something drastic changes don't expect to see a DAOC 2 division. We may launch a Saighdear there if theres enough interest. But I'm not doing the divided family route again.

Yeah, I didn't get a chance to look at this much since I was at work. Now that I am able to read more about it, the game sounds less like the original DAoC game that I loved. Seems like they are just trying to resurrect something half-hatched in order to make a quick buck.

I just checked my twitter feed and saw some news about this, then of course noticed the posts already here about it. I might bring Waelwulfas back for DAoC 2 (face it, that's what it is), emphasis on might. I'll be watching this closely, so we'll see.

The problem for me is that I don't trust Mark following Warhammer Online. I sold that game to so many people based on the first 10 levels in the beta. What a mess. He is as bad as Peter Molyneux with his pie in the sky promises that fall WAY short.

"CU first differentiator is that the entire game revolves around RvR not RvR+PvE or PvE+RvR or anything like that. Also, systems such as crafting and housing are also tied directly into RvR. The economy will be player-owned and crafters will be a very necessary part of the game/Community. In terms of the pack, well, if I was spending 100M on this game and needed millions of subs to break even, I’d be concerned. However, what we are shooting for is a nice, tight niche audience that is here not to play the “next big thing” and then move on but rather who want to spend time in a world where their choices matter, their actions are important and that realm and server pride mean something. I’m really excited to see some of the new three-faction games that are in development, especially TESO from the guys in MD. I’ve got a ton of respect for the Bethesda guys like Todd Howard, Todd Vaughn and Vlatko Andonov as well as lots of guys and gals at Zenimax Online Studios so I’m rooting for them. Besides, Matt Firor was an important part of Mythic’s success so I’m hoping it can really knock it out of the park with that game, team and Bethesda behind him." - Mark Jacobs

I'll definitely be playing and backing this game as soon as it's available. This might be the game I've been waiting for since I quit Dark Age itself. I see PvE as mostly a roadbump to PvP. If they can pull of an entirely RvR game, I think it would be awesome. Warhammer came close but it was just... not finished. We'll see if ESO delivers on it's open-PvP, if not it will definitely be Camelot Unchained for me. :) I want my Shrooms back! It's not DAOC 2 or a DAOC sequel, it's just a similar IP. I'm glad they aren't doing PvE, it's hard to balance a game around both PvE and PvP at the same time, and if they truly focus all their efforts on PvP, I think they have a shot at making the best PvP game to date. If ESO turns out to be awesome, it'll be close though. UHG. Wish I could just sleep for a couple months and have beta invites in my inbox. :(

I watch closely at the information released. I agree with many points brought up about the sailing of the subscription model and that many games encompass a PvE and RvR player base. But personally for me i look back on DAOC with very fond memories and if i can get the same feeling of realm pride and old style exciting PvP/crafting from a game, based on lore features created by mythic i will be there in a heartbeat. This all coming from a person that played DAOC for 7+ years with many guilds. Sometimes its just about the community. That's partly why i am here playing GW2. Good community of players and very open Dev teams that relays information to the masses when it is appropriate. I guess we will hear more about it in March when the kick-stater begins releasing some game play or more about the features that will be present and how they tie it all together. Also not only is Mark Jacobs from mythic working on it, there are others from the mythic days doing animation/art work on it also. But you are right they don't have all the mythic puzzle pieces to work on it like Mike Ferguson or Matt Frior. From what i hear those guys played a big part in marking critical game features in DAOC's RvR, including Darkness falls. For that reason i also look forward to Elder Scrolls online, but personally i have only ever looked at elder scrolls on the playstation a very long time ago! So it would be a big learning curve for myself. But the budget looks big on that game and i am hearing positives from people following the game.

After reading the Foundation Principles, I have to say that they are extremely close to what I prefer in faction-based pvp. I played skill-based pvp in Project Entropia and class-based in WAR and am indifferent between the two. My wife likes the fact that crafted items will not have npc-dropped equivalents. After sitting thru numerous dev meetings based on "how to please everyone and attract a publisher," the resolute focus of Jacobs' design philosophy is refreshing. I certainly hope he sticks to it, the game is not browser-based and wish him much success.

I have been calling for DAoC2 for years. However with the announcement of it on Kickstarter I just...I don;t know, feel underwhelmed I guess. Jacobs is a talented guy and was standing in the right corner when they gutted Mythic but I don't think he was the integral part of the games success pre-EA. Ferguson and Firor hold that torch in my mind. As far as ESO vs DAOC2...unless CityState can change my mind as they develop I think ESO already embodies the spirit of DAoC and is in a fantastic IP that would rival the original DAoC itself.

I just want mmo companies to realize that pve and pvp are nigh impossible to balance to each other (fun, individuality, and "equality" in pvp). I've been of the opinion for a long time that realistically, make 2 separate set of abilities per class. one that is used in pve, one that is used in pvp. OR balance for one and leave the other unbalanced (have to be good at ignoring people calling for nerfs in this case). It all balances out since it's designed for faction against faction. not individual against individual. (think of the fps multiplayer, those that try to kill the other side on their own typically are killed fast. those that work together...they do well. same thing should and does apply to mmorpgs) I think this because in pure pve games, classes are very focused on being able to do their task (ranged dps, healing, offheals, buffs, support, melee dps, crowd control) to the point where their ability to handle the other roles just isn't there typically. in /duels in most pve games I know of, there would be a couple classes that completely dominated all of the other classes, a few classes that simply could NOT win a duel unless they were higher lv/geared than the other person. The rest it could go one way or another (and it was the healers and lifesteal classes or those that could kite that did the best in my experience). This had been the setup for pve abilities since they wanted the classes to be separate and unique and do their specific tasks very well. Just wasn't much overlap. This doesn't work well in pvp, because everybody needs to be able (not necessarily, but have the choice) to be fairly survivable, able to heal when needed, able to either charge or warp to somebody to negate kiting to some extent, and able to output enough dps to feasibly kill somebody, and to be able to do it in less than 10 minutes. (I remember some duels I had in EQ, VG, lineage that lasted over half a hour before we just said "it's a draw! we just can't kill the other!" because we just didn't have enough dps to beat the other's self heals.) This causes an large amount of overlap between the classes, and while you can have them "flavored" differently, realistically, they work the same way for the most part. The only pvp game I've played where I enjoyed both pve and pvp was DAoC, but that's because they balanced the factions. they didn't try to balance the classes so much, but the factions. If anybody has thought of a way/system that would make it so that pve and pvp could work off of the same abilities and be balanced, feel free to speak up, I'd like to know :) This is part of why I think that camelot will potentially have the better pvp of the two, they won't be worrying about pve balance, whereas ESO wants both pvp and pve to be a significant part (I've no idea the percentage focus, like 66% pvp, 34% pve, etc, and we won't know till nearer release) and that'll make class balance a big issue, and one that companies often mess up.

I'm always baffled when MMOs don't have two sets of variables for combat, PvE and PvP. They could keep the same skills and simply have different modifiers depending on the target. Ability Chop has damage of X + battle_type_modifier. Is target PvE or PvP? If PvE, Chop does X damage + (1.1 * X). If PvP, Chop does X damage + (-.05 * X). Same thing can be done for any combat related statistic. Armor, resistance, healing, whatever. No more "Well Rogues are killing other players in one hit, so lets nerf ability X. Oops, now Rogues suck in PvE" or vice versa. Simply adjust one or the other modifier for that skill. There are all sorts of tricks in logic you can do in programming so it just seems completely ridiculous that PvE and PvP combat are always tied together in these games and yet the biggest complaints from users are because of that relation. There simply shouldn't be a tie between them besides the base module.

I will definitely donate enough for the digital copy of the game. I'm currently supporting several other kickstarter projects trying to reintroduce a more free flowing MMO experience as well as several turn-based RPGs. I like the concept of everything revolving around Tri-Faction, with item degradation it creates a synergy between builders, crafters and warmongers, I hope they do well.

one of the systems I liked for pve and pvp was how it worked in old EQ on the zek servers ie pvp servers . Unlike most games where they try and balance pvp and pve and make changes to one which effects the other EQ did something different . The made spells ablities and melee damage do less in pvp then it did in pve , so say a spell that could nuke a mob for 1500 damage would only do up to 75 % of a players total hp instead of 1 shotting them . melee damage was the same. so instead of nerfing damage in pvp and nerfing it in pve as a by product of the pvp damage nerf like most games , pve damage was the same on both the pve servers and the pvp servers . only thing that changed was the damage when you attacked a player . wish more games used something simlar instead of just nerfing damage alltogether across the board for both pve and pvp .

I honestly think he might raise the money but I seriously think he is going about the concept the wrong way. I do not see the game lasting long outside of launch with a pure pvp environment. There are a lot of people out there that want to see a DAOC 2 but they don't want to see an entirely pvp game. The reality is that even though people think pvp is mainstream its still primarily a minority. The majority of mmo players like pve and maybe a little pvp on the side. There have been so many marketing studies done on the subject that prove this and is why a majority of developer's focus is mainly on pve . Unfortunately then pvp is an after thought. I do agree that pvp should be separate from pve. One think I much like about the new FFXIV a realm reborn being made is that concept has been explored. they are separating pvp and pve. The pvp will have its own weapons ,armor ,and abilities . They have stated this a few times aready. I wish more games would do that. But with FFXIV its more of gladiator type combat in a arena which might not appeal to a lot of people. I was really looking forward to Camelot unchained when I first heard of it but it seems to be like a another copy of mortal online and a few other strait up pvp sandbox games. Thos games unfortunately did not do very well at release. This one may do better because of the name association to daoc but I really do not think that will be enough to keep it successful :(.

When it comes to pvp being separate from pve, I definately disagree. I believe the two spheres should mesh. My idea of a fantasy chaotic society such as these involves risk at every turn. So it follows in my thinking, why should the game be any different. Just my opinion though... I have the most fun in MMO's where the pvp and pve are not separate.. the most fun by quite a margin.. no risk becomes quite boring rather quickly to me.

Will NOT be playing this game, as I'm a PVE fan boy. I was also let down by Mythic Entertainment. Have vowed to never support any game with roots to Mythic. Did not play Warhammer. I know many of you were let down by Warhammer. I'm sorry for your dissapointment in that game. But I was very relieved to have dodged that bullet completely. Even if Mythic has nothing to do with this adulterated Daoc2 creation, I will still not be playing it. Also, the F2P model has raised the bar on MMORPG's. Can't justify paying for a game that will be subpar to any modern F2P game. (Why pay for fastfood garbage, when you can get a nice 4 course meal for free? - ie: GW2) It sounds like this Daoc2 is a get-rich-quick scheme. Something's rotten in the state of Daoc.

I 'bought in' to the Kickstarter because I'm really intrigued by the game as it's been described so far and I think it's great that someone is trying to do something a little different. And I like the fact that it's going to be all PvP - I've personally yet to find a game that works for me in both PvE and PvP. In GW2, 99% of my time in-game is spent in WvW while in WoW 99% of my time is spent doing PVE (mostly raiding). It's been the same in pretty much every MMO I've played - while I may go thru spurts of doing the 'other' kind of play, I quickly find I prefer PvP or PvE in a given game and spend most of my time there. I really hope it succeeds, for those that just RvR this is like the second coming! Even if you don't like the notion of a game not having PvE, just think what this will do in terms of mmo's. Kick Starter will become an avenue of more ways we can express our mmo's hobby! Please i beg all of you to think outside the box and get behind camelot unchained, even if it is only $5 bucks that you can save from not eating some take away or something. Follow the progress and see if he ends up adding PvE or maybe there will be NPC dragons or raid like content in the RvR zones. You just never know!

Why do I feel like daoc had it all. Man that game was built right and it worked well. Classic server came way to late in the game it's a shame they didn't start out with or build on that model. I loved pve, pvp, relic raids, my mansion, dragon raids, darkness falls, 8 man groups where every person had to be accountable for there groups survival. The list goes on. Why do all games fall short in so many of these categories and why do developers try to corner a market. The key to cornering the market is to give mmo players a game that has it all working well. To many choices with to many average products anymore.

while i`m not investing in their kick start game i will watch it , but atm i`m more excited about Elder scrolls . Elder scrolls being desgined by guy that created daoc RvR system, based in a fun game world and skill based lvling system is way better then silly class, lvl system. As far as free to play or sub it all depends the money isn`t a issuee as 1 day of work covers a 2 year sub at current 15 a month price , but having played gw2 as my first free to play mmo i don`t like the model very much as the game is desgined to steer you into buying ingame stuff with nerfed loot cash , material drops to entice you to buy stuff from them , I`d rather pay 50 cents a day to not have that . And yes while i have never griefed lowbies in any pvp game and make it a habit of patroling low lvl areas looking for high lvl griefers to kill while helping the lowbies . A game that has pve and pvp areas overlap is way more exciting as the uncertainty of wether to pull that mob or not and alwaysa looking over your shoulder is great .

Alauniira and I are already backers from the day, actually like the minute it started lol, the Kickstarter launched along with four others from Rift and DAOC. We can not wait for it too happen. Hopefully more people back it so it gets done. Would love to group up with some more people from Gaiscioch. It looks amazing, the Depths seems like a crazier version of Darkness Fall.

I'm really interested in the sandbox-ish building options that were announced today. http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/04/20/building-the-perfect-fortress-in-camelot-unchained/ What do you all think? I'm starting to get worried that the project will not fund though if we do not stir up more support for the campaign.

Couldn't think of a better basis of crafting to work from, like mine craft. It will be like putting a puzzle together! Sounds absolutely amazing challenging and also prompt PvP at the same time. Plus the mine sounds like it can be done cooperatively and will vary from the standard hit a node and you get the goods. This time it will be a true mine or a pile of mud that can be turned into bricks etc. So this was a text update, i think there will be more to come :P

Garyc - Will NOT be playing this game, as I'm a PVE fan boy. Does that mean you wont be playing Elder Scrolls Online? Considering Bryan Wheeler and Matt Firor were both Mythic. Didn't you play Rift, LotRO or DDO? Adam Gershowitz was from Mythic. Like Guild Wars 2? Matt Witter, Mike Ferguson and Colin Johanson were from Mythic. Not playing a game because a developer was from Mythic Entertainment is cutting away a lot of games, GW2, Rift, TESO for instance. Not playing a game because it doesn't have PvE is a more valid reason.

Even DAOC players are now Devs with Arenanet, don't get me wrong i am not being mean or anything Garyc, but be greatful that mythic existed because it put a focus on player vs player and spread its seeds into the development of many other games. Some of it is about the memories, some people experienced DAOC, lived for the fun and communities that existed, and fought for there realms. Its the recreation of that pride that people want again! Atleast i feel that way totally. I truely believe this isn't a cash grab either. 1. Mark Jacobs will not get a salary from this backing 2. He has put in 2 million dollars of his own money. 3. He just loves making games! 4. He speaks with humility about making a niche game for those that want it! Anyway everyone has the style of games they like be it old school, MOBA or free to play. Play mmo's the way you want to, because that's when you will get the most fun out of your past time.

I was so excited for this game until I learned it'll have no PvE. I loved DAoC and Warhammer because there was PvE in the PvP or vice versa. I really like PvE content. I like PvP as long as I can go back to PvE once it aggravates or bores me enough. I LOVE PvE that has the extra danger of potential PvP though. I wish GW2 would have more PvE and more reason to do it within the PvP areas. They have some in there that makes me think at some point they wanted it that way, but now it's just a mean tease and a way to be ostracized by the community if you're not doing only PvP. All PvE = I'll check it out. PvE + separate PvP = Yeah I'll check it out. PvE + areas of mixed PvE/PvP = Hell yeah! All PvP = Nope, not interested. Throw in F2P and my interest increases. Throw in sub and my interest decreases. So if this was going to be F2P I'd probably check it out just to see how the RvR was, but if it's sub no thanks at all.

I think many of you should read what has been said or promised by CSE team regarding this game: http://camelotunchainedfaq.wikispaces.com/ Please review the above location the person was kind enough to grab all the quotes and posts regarding most topics you have questions about. I would love to discuss more, but I have already realized that many have already decided not to play the game there is nothing I can say or the developers can say to sway you. On the other hand there are almost 8,825 that do want this type of game as of today. And there is probably another 10k that are on the fence about backing / funding it. The only reason this game is even on kickstarter and has other backing (funding) if the goal is met and the amount of backers is sufficient is because games like DAOC are old, warhammer failed, even GW2 wvw to me is lacking in area of is it worth logging in and playing some days, Rift did not provide the open world pvp I was promised. Many other games will not meet the mark of this niche genre of 3 way fight. If you are on the fence I highly recommend over the next week when they put more info out on the combat and classes, lore you take time to review it. Personally I have not backed the game cause I for one still waiting on the classes and few other mechanics to be presented and or discussed.

If they announced today, Thursday, that they were going to implement PVE content, their KS would make its goal, plus extra, by Friday night. I can only imagine how many thousands of players are thinking, "man, I love DAOC, but no PVE... I just don't know about this." Jacobs has some wonderful ideas, but his target players are MMO players, not MOBA players, and PVE is of huge interest to MMO players. If he'd have held some interest studies before deciding on this course of design, I am quite sure he'd have been stunned at the high amount of negative responses regarding the design of a MMORPG without any PVE content. Sure, RvR was fun in DAOC, but it was not what made DAOC really rock for folks. It was going out into the Frontier for the combination of PVE and PVP, that was exciting. There was a large amount of players, who also wanted home realm invasions to be implemented. A lot of fun was found when people managed to exploit their way into home realms. Sadly, Mythic didn't want to alienate their PVE-only players, and ignored the interest and nixed the idea. If I could sit down with Mark Jacobs right now, I'd say... "Dude, you can have a MMORPG without PVP, but you just can not have a MMORPG without PVE. Most MMO Players will not find any interest in a game without any PVE content to waste idle time on. If you want this thing funded, you need to find a way to fit PVE content into your design."

I agree, Sekkerhund. If he hadn't said "No PvE!" this game would have been funded incredibly fast. MikeyDee, thanks for that link. Lots of info there. It's interesting that there will be SOME PvE, just no advancement of any kind from the PvE. The Depths actually sound pretty dang cool. I dunno... I think my biggest problem with an all PvP game is that what do I do after I've been ganked 20 times in a row or there's no PvP to be found because I'm not on at the right time? In this game it sounds like I'd have to log off. In a normal game I could take a break to work my frustrations out on some poor 'a Giant Rat'.

Regarding PVE it can mean way to many things and way to different to others. To me PVE = Crafting, Killing Mobs, quests, raid content, gathering to others it may be different. CU will have PVE if you believe that = Crafting, gathering, building, Deconstructing, and few other things the crafter only class has access too. Now it will not have Quests, EXP from NPCs which to me does not equel not having ANY PVE, just means it wont have ALL TYPES of PVE.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too Mikey. They say that there is no PvE, but I think they mean that there is no ARPG style PvE, or no itemisation based around PvE. They have a class JUST for crafters, a crafter class! that is better than most PvE games can offer. There's still going to be mobs in the Depths, there's still going to be NPCs guarding enemy buildings and crafting resources. Going into the depths will still be rewarding, because you will be going there for materials to get better things crafted.

The thrill of victory in pve doesn't compare to the thrill of victory in pvp. I beat a machine then once I beat the machine it does the same thing every time I beat it. I want blood and I want to stand on top of my enemy proud to have accomplished something that matters. GW2 pvp/wvw does it really matter? Not really. Nothing in my gaming life is affected if I lose a battle. My triumphs are only for my personal satisfaction and nothing more. Talk about boring. I'd rather watch paint dry than play a game with stale pvp. Pve is and always has been a means to have better gear for pvp. I don't think jumping puzzles are cool. I don't really like grinding or crafting for items all day long but if I have to for pvp I will. The only reason to roll an 80 is for pvp the dungeons in gw2 are laughable at best at least Rift had hammerknell which was a bit of a challenge. Legendary weapons are not really that legandary. They just cost a legendary amount of time sink or money. About the only thing I really liked to do in pve was upgrade my house(kinda like a trophy of your timesink), and fishing. I cannot fish in gw2. The game is very shiny don't get me wrong it looks good and feels good but GW2 means nothing to me minus playing with this guild. I go through pve content as fast as I want to on this game it's why I have 6 80s. With the lackluster pvp and it really is lackluster considering there is nothing worth fighting for really has me at odds as to how much longer I can take the boredom. I am all pug tourney and zerg guilded out with pvp/wvw on this game it is becomming less and less fun for me. I know let's go grind dungeons or some terrible dragon for mats and a little lackluster loot. NO TY. Please deliver me some e-glory from a kick ass pvp game. The only reason most people I know even crafted or went on a dragon raid or farmed some stuff in DAOC was because it all applied to pvp. It made the crappy grind seem worth it. This game I feel like any pve accomplishment I make is for nothing but show and I really don't care. I would strap a dildo to my toon's helmet if it made his/her stats better for pvp/wvw and we were playing a game where it mattered. Realm pride is something some people will never experience or understand because it's something u can't pve. Pvp is the backbone of any good mmo it's what makes an mmo an mmo. If that werent the case we all would be running around with sticks and brooms sweeping up the streets. Why do you think your toon carries a weapon. To fight and become a hero with stories of triumphant battles to be told in the homeland. Killing a mob that does the same move every single time is that really a challenge or what a good mmo should be based around? If people want to pve in an mmo they should be shop owners or something or shoe my horses for me before battle. You should not be allowed to take up arms unless you plan on doing it to defend your realm. You might hurt yourself with that sword better put that down and let someone who knows what to do with it handle it. How can you slay a dragon when u can't even defend your people?
