Firefall

So I checked out the firefall video with Felcia Day and Will Wheaton http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wz6odvW1SU0 Has anyone played this is beta yet and if so how does it compare to the New tribes, BF3, and Planet side 2?

I got in the friends and family beta about a year ago, I didn't care for it much. Graphically it is too cartoonish for me and too basic, I found the game play to be pretty boring. I have not logged into it in about 6 months but it never did grab me.

Tribes is only PvP, very fast paced and requires a LOT of practice to get good at considering that there are hardly any hit-scan (Meaning no travel time with your bullets. The moment you click, the bullet will hit) weapons and you gotta hit targets that are going at least over 200 Kph while expected to match that speed in a lot of cases. Planetside 2 is also only PvP, and it's a game where you really can't solo. It's a 6000 player (2k per faction) 24/7 all out war. Think GW2's WvW but on a massive scale. BF3, I can't comment on, but if it's anything like CoD, it's too different to compare to Firefall. Firefall has PvE and PvP separated, no weapons are truly hit-scan, but some bullets go fast enough that you might as well consider it to be. It is more of a persistent world like in GW2, and it is class-based. You can change around your classes (aka: Battleframes) by buying new Battleframes and switching them. It's not comparable to BF3, PS2, or Tribes. Beyond the fact that they're shooter's, they are just too different. I will say that Firefall is a very unique and great game, though it's still got a long way to go from a full release. I would totally recommend playing. I have not logged into it in about 6 months but it never did grab me. They did a massive gameplay overhaul since then. I suggest patching your game and trying it out.

Graphically its cell shading so like borderlands which isn't bad looking. The events are created by you and other players by going out to mine materials. With that the better the server does the more world is open by pushing back a wall with machines that need the mind ore. I haven't played it for months because it got stale very fast as there was no difficulty or variety in events but since I have been active there have been changes to gameplay and character creation. So that might not be the case anymore. I would jump back in to check things out but one MMO is good enough for me.

Firefall started out as a Tribe's style of PVP only game, but they completely re-designed it... twice.

Oh, wow, there are GSCH that play FF? I guess I'll update the client and play some, then. I have no ETA though, I have so many Betas on-going right now, as it is.

I didn't know others could invite people. Any possible way I could get a beta key tossed at me? The game looks fun, and I signed up for the beta. Would really like to see if this computer could handle the game at a playable (to me) rate. And knowing there are Gaiscioch peeps playing is definitely a plus.

Never started. Too many games, too little time.

I played it quite a bit before they made changes to class progression. Actually, I think they just did another change recently. I'll have to check it out again to see how things are going. I had a lot of fun, but like Sekkerhund said "Too many games, too little time." There are more and more free to play games (good ones too!) coming out that it gets difficult to decide what to play.

I started playing Firefall back when it was just out of Alpha, or maybe it was still in Alpha, anyway it originally was a Tribes-clone MOBA style game. Its undergone drastic changes since then... just saying that Red 5 took it back to the drawing board would be an understatement. More like they took a shotgun to the drawing board, several times. I haven't played it in its current MMO-style incarnation, but I've heard its fun and a different change of pace. One thing you have to admit about Red 5... they do listen to their players and make changes that are highly requested.

The only issue I have with Firefall nowadays is that they overcomplicated the crafting system to the point to where I don't even wanna go to a printer anymore.
