Dallos, you be surprised to find there are actually not as many differences between tier 1 servers and tier 3 or 4 servers as you may have thought. One of the prime differences between 1 and 4 is the level of coverage on the various battlegrounds on a 24 hour basis. Tier 1 servers generally have greater depth of coverage than do the tier 4 servers. A player decked out in PVT Exotic gear in teir 1 differs little from a player similarly equipped in tier 4. The tactics are a little different, but that is something you will learn gradually. Hammer trains here in Tier 1 are just a brutal as those in Tier 4, we may not approach the "train" all that differently, from the side and rear are the preferred for example. I have noticed that lower tiers tend to try and run larger zergs, which is not always the best answer to a tactical problem. While one large zerg is taking an objective, the other team is running several smaller zergs gathering more points per tick, which is after all, how the game is won. This may be oversimplifying your answer and if it is please let me know. Coordination is another point that may separate the lower rated servers. Here we make maximum use of such tools as Raid CAll and Teamspeak voice communications. By using voice coordination we can react more quickly, and affect the tide of close battles.
As other commanders have suggested run with the training groups that occur on a daily basis and you will find that WvW can be a lot of fun, as well as a challenging pastime.
