WvW Changes = Awesome

I spent a significant amount of time in WvW yesterday checking out the new culling and points systems.

1. I set my options to high to see more players. I was able to get a consistent 30 fps even in big zerg battles.

2. There was lots of running with huge zergs yesterday because it was, among other things, the easiest way to score points fast in the new xp system.

It is unclear to me at this point how the changes will change long-standing tactics. But it I did nottice that being able to see all or most of the enemy led to interesting choices :-)

It might be an interesating time to work on small-group tactics. If any of you would like to do that, please give me a holler. I'll be playing my cleric guardian (commander) John Falstaf.

I couldn't get in... even after the fix. I'll be trying to get the Hills vista in Red until I get it. Then, moving to blue or green to try and finish world completion. Will look for events to join with the family along the way.

If it ain't fixed, break it until it is.

Yes, it was a bit of mess through much of the day. The queue system was broken. Add to that the number of people interested in the new content.

I logged on last night to have a look at the new progression system, was quite unimpressed and subsequently logged out. I just can't seem to reignite the spark I once had for this game. So I played project zomboid instead.

I actually had great fun last night running with my lvl 33 engie - I could see "a lot" more players and enemies at much greater distances. I could actually see the "zerg" and it made me much more impressed seeing all the players running together that I couldn't see before. I'm not quite sure of the "ranking" system - but gained half a rank in about 2 hours without really trying. I was mostly defending at Garrison and being able to see the enemy sure did change my strategy - well - not really - it let me use my strategy and see it working. Knowing I am dropping my supply crate on the largest cluster of players - throwing grenade clusters at the largest "clump" of players - and seeing thieves and rangers skirting off to the sides to flank us made a HUGE difference. PS. I had no queue problems getting into any BL from 8 - 12 server time. Safe journ all...

It felt like a new game. I'd be completely happy with the game if they removed the queue and could somehow manage open world. Or link all the different zones somehow.

The ranks seem mostly pointless to me, but the culling change is great! Even on my crappy computer i can at least tell where the huge zerg is by the nameplate swarm.

Very happy with the changes - culling changes are great, the rank system is "something" and a nice, delicate change to the system

Im glad to hear that they have made graphic adjustments. Typically - when I go out to WvW, it will be 30 minutes before I could see any of the enemy players (yes... I play on an ancient laptop). Now I'm ready to go back out and try it again :)

I agree it is awesome - have it set to a high number of players seen and lowest for the skin quality. No real skill lag and it is freaky how many people there are when 2-3 zergs crash into each other.

I was on last night in JQ Borderlands and was please that I could at least see all the names in areas where there were big battles going on... It helped me adjust what I was doing (I died less and picked up a few more bags).

I maybe spoke too soon. The command lag has become pretty intolerable when the zones are full.

Mikey, I was excited by that article and hope they keep adding more and more into WvWvW which will lead to more events in this realm. I love the mix of PvE with WvWvW and would also love to see more/different variety of siege. Would love to build a battery of canons that could damage walls. /dream I know that GW's is famous for adding content - for years and years... I have enough time on my hands to support 2 games, but have never found 2 games to keep my interest. I think GW2 just might fill a need for a long time if they keep the changes coming.

First thing I'm looking forward to is the nerfing of the arrow carts to make them not quite as devastating. Of course, that may come into play as them putting in a siege vehicle especially to take out the arrow carts. But who knows.

Honestly I think arrow carts are doing their job well, but the problem is there is't really a counter siege for them. What they need is for catapults to have a greek fire skill to lob onto the battlements where personal AoE can't reach. either that or add a siege mortar that can be used from further back to counter it

ANet has recently admitted that Arrow Carts are too OP whether it be because they can't be countered because they have longer range or because of the sheer amount of damage one can do in tearing through a zerg. It's going to be fixed in some way or another though. Starting with the next patch.

Yeah I understand that they are currently OP (though it is debatable) and that ANet agrees, I just believe it is because they need a siege counter. Like ballista are for Catapults, Arrow carts need a counter. It's a shame they didn't have some kind of rock/paper/scissors/lizard/spock with siege, i think it could have worked well. Personally, I'm enjoying WvE a lot more with arrow carts the way they are now. Now there is actually a real threat to zergs just rolling over minimal defended keeps, it takes more time to capture, which in turn makes for a better game instead of musical chairs (keeps)

Arrow Carts do have a counter siege. Its called another Arrow Cart. Has no one ever used an arrow cart to take out another arrow cart? It actually works pretty well, we used to do it a lot, back in the old days. ;) Now, having said that, I think the point of Anet is that arrow carts are outperforming their intended design with the new WvW traits. With regards to their comments on siege counters, I read it as being that they want to make sure that siege can be countered by not being placed in areas where it can get you, but you can't get it. AC does not need a line of sight, and the crafty operator can stand in a spot where they're out of harms way, but they can still pan their camera and drop the circle of death down, especially from high spots, up and around Lord Rooms.

What they really need is a sniper ability for engy's that can take out the operator ... OK ... I'm prejudice in favor of engy's - you can give it to other a few other classes also, I guess or even all of them as an anti siege weapon. I see those dang sniper rifles that have a huge range/damage set up in a couple of zones for you to use and think that would be an awesome siege weapon that could be set up quickly with a siege skill and used - with a siege skill. Imagine sending someone with the siege skill up on a hill 3000 ft away sniping at siege weapons - I don't care if you make the shots blockable since it is a rifle shot. Make it so the rifle is easily destroyed... OK - just dreaming - I know it could be OP if not designed right ... I just remember my great engineer sniper shot from WarHammer and want it again.
