Awareness of in-game chat?

Hi all!

(Sorry if this is posted somewhere else. The search function led to a ..web search?)

I have raidcall installed but for many reasons I can never speak into it! I prefer to use it only when necessary. I know that raidcall has a typing sort of feature as well. Do people do all communication through raidcall? It seems that people are not really responding in guild chat, at least it's in a sparingly sort of manner.

I really really like typing in guild chat in game, but I fear that no one notices!

Any advice out there for what I can do? Should I always type in raidcall or just keep typing in guild chat?

Raid call is nice for communicating via voice no one really types in raidcall unless they are adding a link or something. Not sure which guild room you are in but typing in Guild chat is what most people do or if anyone groups up typing in party chat will also be pretty common. So I say just keep typing in Guild if that's what you like to do.

I agree with FihalFab... first thing is open the "Guild Window" and see how many people are in your room. You have to pay close attention since everyone on-line isn't neccessarily in your room (if you are a member of more than one guild.) Then see where they are located. I know if they are in WvWvW they only really have time to watch the action in front of them and pay attention to RC or Team/Map Chat - or they might end up dead - or lost and then alone - and then dead. If they are running in a group event - they also don't have time to respond. I stopped to respond to a guild chat last night while running in an event - and my squad ended up halfway across the the map - now I was running in a level 30ish zone and I was on a lvl 80 character so I was'nt too worried - but if I was on an equal lvl toon or slightly higher - it could have been bad... if I was on a slightly lower level character... I would have been dead. I generally pay attention to guild chat when I am in a town or crafting - which is seldom. I know several people have complained that guild chat is a tad slow - but be aware that we have a lot of events running and many in the guild are in WvWvW - so typing in guild chat is an "off and on sort of thing" for many of us.

Re raidcall problems. Make sure to run as administrator. Also be sure to set a push to talk key. Then key up and blaber into the mic for a few seconds so rc can find you voice level. Re guild chat. The biggest problem with chat in gw2 is that there is nowhere safe to stop and chat. When your fighting for your life constantly its hard to stop and reply. Games like daoc where you had to rest after every fight made chatting easy. The twitchier the game the less time people use chatting unfortunately. This is why voice comm has become so important as games get more advanced.

Momo, room=guild. So as a new member, based on what time you said you like to play in your profile you could be in one of three guilds - Gaiscioch, Gaiscioch with an accent over the 2nd i, or Gaiscioch Morrigan (I know there is a middle word on the last that I can't remember). The time you selected as your primary is to help you be in a room that has people on when you are. To see who is on and in the room, look for the green squares in front of their name. Now you will also see green squares with a grayish dash over them also, which means they are logged in, but not representing the guild you are in. We actually have 5 guilds total (3 to house everyone, one for PvE and one for PvP/WvW) and none of them can talk to each other. Each is stuck to their own chat. So unfortunately in game guild chat has the family fractured though with the choice of time to play Fog did his best to get people in the room/guild that might actually have people on when they are.

Yeah I agree, when I am fighting in the game, which is basically all the time. I get pretty bad about it. If we are taking a major point on the map like bay or hills in wvw, there's no way I can respond. Especially when I play thief and really need to pay attention to what I am doing. The only time I get to chat is when I am crafting or jumping around aimlessly lol. I use Raidcall for everything communication wise. I see people aimlessly run into walls (or lead squads off of cliffs) all the time because they are trying to run and respond to tells and look at maps all at the same time while trying to get somewhere(which can be very hilarious).

I totally do the typing/autorunning past my point/opening the map to see if I'm passed my point - thing. Haha! Ohhh, I had no idea about the rooms. I need to pay more attention! Thanks for all the responses. They are as I predicted. Thing's simply get busy and voice-chat is indeed the most convenient way to communicate when you're all-out focused on the task at hand. Thanks for all the constructive responses. In some other games I might have gotten things like "Can't you afford a mic?" and stuff, but not here! I'll still keep using guild chat and running off cliffs!

The problem I have with Guild Chat... I'm trying to log off and go to bed... Someone announces Meta Event up in Wayfarer Foothills. I run and do the event. Get a couple of rares. Then as I am logging off - someone announces Shatterer is up... guess what I do... get a couple more rares.... start to log off - another Dragon!! pretty soon it is almost 4 a.m. and I am still in game .... That's what happens when I pay attention to guild chat. PS. A sincere Thank You to all of those that post these in Guild Chat. And I mean that. Without many of you there are a lot of us that would miss these events. Thank You!!! Thank You!!! Thank You!!!

LOL Morigana. Totally understand this because I used to be like this myself. However, my body and my husband don't stand for that nonsense anymore. Hehe! Of course, the biggest thing with GW2 for me now is a lot off been there, done that. Now that I got to playing again this past weekend on a little steadier schedule with a hand that works better again, I find I don't care what I do as long as I do it with friends and family. =) There is actually nothing more I care to get out of this game other than socializing with all of you as best one can while running around like lunatics and face planting off of cliffs. HA!

Lets all hope that GW2 implements Alliance chat soon. Then it wont matter so much what room your in. I can relate to what your saying Momo. I too tend to enjoy the old fashioned type chatting. But yeah like most peeps here, if I'm in WvW I tend to be very foccessed on the fight in front of me and tend to miss chat a lot.

I can totally relate too, it seems so quiet now in guild chat. Sometimes I change from my Gaiscioch with funny i to Na Anu, and then to Na Rall just to see if I can find more people to chat with. It seems very fractured. Most times there might be around 50'ish people on in each guild and only a third repping at that time because we are spread out. I miss the Rift guild chat of former years with no stop banter and fun, although opening the roster to show all including those offline would crash my game haha! I do use raidcall though, but I miss in game guild chat sometimes :/
