So who in the family is a reader?  Who in the family has been waiting for the awesome conclusion of the Wheel of Time series of books?  Jan. 8th (in the USA at least) is the release date and I for one will have it as soon as my nook downloads it :).  This is one of my favorite series of all time.  I have read and reread all the books until they fell apart and so I purchased them again on the nook.  I was saddened when the author Robert Jordan passed away but very impressed with his wife.  The courage it took to continue and finish the series her husband loved is remarkable.  I do have to say that I am happy with the author she chose in Brandon Sanderson to finish out the series of books.  He has done well so far and I really hope this last book is amazing.

If you have not began the series and you are a fantasy reader I strongly suggest you do :)

Funny thing, as mentioned over I think in our resolutions thread, out of the need to read something, I got to these books again and I'm somewhere in the middle of book 3. Been doing a reread of my fantasy and sci-fi library for the things I knew I would read again and most of them so far are like over 10 years ago I read it. LOL! As for the last book in the series, I had totally not bothered keeping track, but good to know it is coming to an end. I think I have up through book 10 on my shelves.

Don't mess with Mama Bear, I might hug you too tight. =D

I have never looked into the Wheel of Time, as my man George R R Martin has me a bit gun-shy about getting into an incomplete series (I'm not IMPATIENT, but waiting for the next installment always kills me). As the last book is done, maybe now is the time to start! How many books are there in all?

There is a good argument to be made that there are not a number of books in this series, it is just one looooooooooooooong book. As if Mr Jordan was paid not by the word but by the yard. It is a remarkable work, to be sure. The 'world building' is unparalleled, and the interweaving of multiple stories is remarkable. Some characters vanish for several feet ahem books and reappear in a way that (mostly) had me going 'aha!' rather than 'who?'. Unfortunately, I personally found most of the characters to be either outright idiots, or awful bossy people that need to be slapped. (I want my fantasy to not resemble real life, plz.) There are gender issues. In fact the entire plot seems to be based on gender issues, and given the god-level magic power available (and the embarrassing emotional maturity levels of everyone), those issues are magnified into world-shattering levels of destruction. Kinda like high school. Given the length of the read, that's a lot of gender issue to trudge through. That's just me though - it's well worth the read (imagery and prose), and worth the study (See the masses of electronic ink spilled) and does have a bearing on the world of Guild Wars. Somewhat medieval world with magic, some leftover technology from a previous age, more or less equality of the sexes (costuming choices notwithstanding), what would the world look like?

I have been reading (and rereading) the books since high school in the late 90s and am definitely waiting for the last one to come out. :) I also have all the ebooks now. I would like to note that they are delaying the release of the eBook until April 9th - about 3 additional months that you'll have to wait to get it on your Nook. I'll be waiting, too, just don't see the point in buying paper books anymore. @Ralcore - The Memory of Light is the 14th book in the series, and they also have a prequel novel for a total of 15 books. The series was very long, and originally I think the plan was for it to be 8 books so there is a certain feeling of it dragging on for longer than it really needed to. But, they've kept me interested enough to keep reading anyway (unlike a couple of other series I gave up on, like the Southern Vampire series and The Walker Papers).

I can not wait for this book, so so so excited! I am quite relieved that B Sanderson is a great writer, really picked up the pieces Jordan left for him. So excited..

Sanderson is fantastic. I actually like him better than Robert Jordan, though it was Jordans genious and concepts and world. Both are great, but I give the edge to Sanderson.

I read the first three a few years ago, but I did not have the free time to finish the series. I have not decided if I am going to attempt to get through the entire series or not. I do have a friend who is looking forward to the final book.

I started reading this series a while ago, but I lost interest due to the wait between books (I also grew a bit tired of Jordan's style). I like Sanderson's writing, and I enjoyed his Mistborn books (and there's another series he just started which I've heard good buzz about). I will probably get back to this on my kindle once the last book is out.

Great to see all the readers here :). @ Ralcore, haha I really enjoyr GRRM also and love his style. knowing that anybody and i mean ANYBODY could die off in that series is surprisingly exciting. There is a video on youtube that i think you would enjoy. It has vork from the guild in it....actually here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7lp3RhzfgI @Rylssa, it seems i will now own a hardcover copy and a nook copy. I just can't wait...lol. I think Sanderson has improved things. I liked the first six or seven by Jordan. After that I took to listening to them on CD because I just couldn't sit down and read them anymore. Sanderson has breathed life back into the series, and I'm looking forward to this final volume.

I have ordered my copy and it is on the way! I have read all of the books and many of them several times. I am anxious for the end of this series. Jordan had many unnecessary books in the series and should have wrapped it up before he died. Sanderson is doing a fine job finishing the series. As far as GRRM goes he has totally disappointed me. He grew fat and lazy off of the success of his first few books. I have not even read the last book (although someone gave it to me as a gift) because I don't believe he will finish the series.
