FYI when choosing major my story paths when questing with someone

So you are saying, when about to choose your path, go in alone and not grouped with someone?

I am Avarycce's husband, here is what happened. We do the Personal Story line quests together, discuss what option we should select and whomever is the 'host' for the quest at that time chooses that path. When this happens the person(people) not hosting get a message inquiring if they want to accept that choice and progress on their quest or refuse it. If they refuse they will have to do the instance again. I was the 'host' for the level 30 quest and we decided to follow the Order of Whispers. Avarycce accepted that choice, but being late we logged and did not do the next step in the quest chain. The next day I was still on that quest but my wife was on a different branch of the same step of the story. Had she not accepted my selection on the previous night she would have been on the level 30 step where she was to choose which path she wanted. (Which would be a minor bug.) But now we are on 2 different paths, so we stopped the quest chain to await an answer from support. And apparently there answer is to delete the character and level to 30 again. They have stated that they have fixed the bug causing the issue, but to be safe if you are Sylvari I would do the level 30 and 70 instances and manually select the choice as they apparently wont fix any impact of the bugs. Edit: Wife pointed out to me that the thread has people of all races reporting the issue, I had mistakenly thought it was Sylvari only. Be careful folks.

Many times now I've had trouble with the personal story, then go to the forums and discover the bug I discovered has already several pages of posts about it. I don't want my story to be completely "spoilered," (if I can coin a verb of a denominalized word). But I can see in hindsight I could have avoided some grief if I'd checked first. This warning is a good to know, as I enjoy partying for the stories. Is it generally safe to do them in party if you're different race/order/level from each other?

Apparently they have it fixed, but the code doesn't go in until the patch on the 22nd. So player beware!

At least the code is going in tomorrow along with all the other fun stuff it will bring. I have helped a few people with their story quests, but usually I'm on a character that is well beyond the point that they are so never see the question pop up. Obviously it has foiled a lot of people wanting to level and story quest together. Too bad those already bugged can't see the fix, but we should definitely see if the problem still occurs with the fix in order to help ArenaNet know if it is indeed fixed.

We've abandoned our characters, as playing together is fun for us and this really seems to spoil the fun for us. We are back to level 4 again and really hoping that no other bugs like this appear. It just delays us from getting back into WvWvW with everyone, but we will return at some point!

I'm just upset that they knew about this issue a month ago. The CSR's could have prevented ALOT of people grief (without any spoilers) by warning them to solo the level 30, level 40 and level 70 quest where you make your order selections to avoid bugs that occur when you are grouped with other players.

That is true, but we can't change history so we need to move on from this and maybe they will have learned from it as well in communicating better about such bugs.
