Hi all,

My wife and I are trying to figure out how this site is supposed to work.  First a little background:

So while playiing GW2 we decided we wanted to be a little bit more active with Gaiscioch since you guys are all cool and stuff.  We're also fans of crafting.

Apparently it's pretty well known that it sucks to be a low level Gaiscioch guy and a crafter - you can't put in discovery so you're limited to what other people have added, which means you are pretty limited in how you earn artisan points.  Also it sucks to be a low level crafter (or specifically not max level) since most requests are for max slot bags which we are working up too.

Anyways, since my wife and I are leveling up this stuff anyway, and trading them, we decided why not do it through the site?  So for example, if she wants me to make iron boxes, she can request them on the site, I (or anyone else if they are faster) can claim it, craft it, ship it, and earn some points.  It's nice because we were going to do it anyway and it helps to earn some points on the website which is pretty hard to do if you're not a 400 Craftsman Elder.

So I had earned some contribution/FVC points by filling out the few work orders and gathering orders I could do, and decided to buy some resources from her (iron ore and soft wood).  The idea being this would get her FVC which she could turn around and buy iron boxes from me with.

But she is not getting FVC for her contribution, even though it went up.  So we're just really confused on how this is supposed to work.

It's not really stopping us from trading the stuff, but it would have been nice to earn some points on the side since the only other options right now is to stay up to midnight on an event (and we have to get up at 6) or hope and pray that someone needs some low level armor/weaponsmithing work.

Just wondering if we could get some insight on how we're supposed to advance/earn FVC/etc.  Sorry for the long post but I thought the view from a newer member might provide some insight.

I may be wrong, but I think most things with the site update at 1AM PST. Usually, I just give it 24 hours and my FVC are there waiting for me.

Your FVC is calculated every night at 1 AM PST. Also note that some items on the marketplace are out of sync because people entered items into the crafting recipe before they were approved which threw off the pricing. I will be working on a resyncing script to get everything back on par with where it should be.

This is a rough catch 22 that is emphasized in GW2 due to the low number of recipes being entered and approved for many craft lines. This makes it hard for anyone to request gear (not just mats and bags) since there are so few choices and each choice is very specific. For example, take a look at the tailor recipes available on the Marketplace tonight for level 15 gear: 3 recipes for head 1 recipe for feet 1 recipe for main hand (which should be chest) In reality there are 4 basic types of gear at level 15 (Resilient, Precise, Malign, and Healing), and 5 different slots that gear can be tailored for at level 15 (head, chest, hands, legs and feet). So, out of a potential 20 recipes for level 15 gear, there are only 5 entered. Tailoring is not the only craft in this boat and it is hindering the use of the Marketplace for anything except crafting material orders. This prevents the growth of Artisan levels or the use of the Marketplace in its fullest sense. Much like the failing Black Lion Trading Company in-game, our own Marketplace is hamstrung and not as useful as it should be.

Wildflower, Give it time please. Rome was not built overnight. People will enter recipes as they level up. We are still trying to get all the base materials in the system so that all recipes can properly be input. As always PLEASE BE PATIENT. Gaiscioch is NOT my full time job. It does not pay the bills at all in fact it sucks more than $10,000 a year out of my finances. So please understand that I can not devote all of my time to this website. ArenaNet gets paid for doing this. I do not.

I do realize that this cannot be your life, Fog. The issues I list were not a personal attack, at all. It is a Gaiscioch problem that is significant on the GW2 side of things and why I added it to the Warlord agenda as well, far before this post. There are many high level crafters with extensive recipe lists that our Marketplace does not reflect, so leveling up crafting does not seem to be the hurdle. The entering and approval bit seems to be. Hopefully we can all brainstorm and come up with ways to help each other get through this hump.

Wild, There are only so many Draio/Elders that can appove stuff on the website.... and most (if not all) have full time jobs. As Fog has said just give it time. GW2 hasnt even been out for a month yet. It took us over a month to enter in most of the data from Rift. You should remember that, You were around then

Fog, Take a look at the cookie recipe that is posted. It doesn't give crafting credit for being filled. I know there is a lot to do with crafting and it is going to take some time to complete.

I currently don't have much work, and do have some crafting level and good data-entry skills, so I'll pitch in with adding some recipes. As far as real life family goes -- I never claim things I make for my son or fiance, just things for other people. Hadn't really thought about it, but that'd be a way to use some of all these FVCs we get and raise our artisan levels :D. It's ok to do?

Thanks for the replies. Also I didn't mean to imply impatience or dissatisfaction with anything. This is an incredible site and is a testament to the amount of work and love put into it. If I seem over eager, its simply because I want to jump in and am excited to do so! I hope one day to earn enough trust and merit to help with some of the things around here so that the elders don't have so much to do - wither it's financially, technically, or administrative. Thanks guys.

It is initially hard to earn points. Like fellowship points. What will probably happen is as time goes by, more members will step up to organize events big or small, thus making it easier for newer members to earn points. Same goes for crafting. The game is only one week old after all, if you plan to play for long term, you will gain family ranks gradually but surely.

Suggestion, especially for new Gaiscioch - be on raidcall in one of the busier rooms. Myself (among others) have oodles of FVC banked up, if you want to level your artisan, give a call out, can place orders for you to fill (once the recipes are coded). I input a bunch of low-level masterwork recipes today. We'll get there!

My jeweler is up over 200 now and I'm sure I can post a few recipes to help out here. I'll make some time to do that. I know that I have made some items for some guildies because they couldn't order it from the marketplace. And I'd be happy to fill orders for people for that stuff. What's the fun of crafting if you can't use it to help other! Hmmm going to have to change my tagline....

Yeah as a noobie forming up guildie 5 man runs, it was kind of disappointing that the event could not be entered for folks to claim participation if none of them had the ability to do so. It was told to me by an elder its the way it is and we all had do go through it and so it is. Maybe Ill suffer through PvP/WvW till I get the rank to enter in PvE events. It is unfortunate that this barrier exists for pure PvE folks but it is what it is and the new folks will make it eventually ;)

Sarzan see if you can find a partner to co sponsor the runs with you. One that can enter events.

Sarzan come to satiurdays pve event. Pvp isn't the only thing that's claimable. I see several zone defenses pop up daily. There's more pve right now being logged than pvp. You just need to follow first. The trip to lorgair is where we break the wow mentality or other bad habbits you may have picked up in other games. Its an introduction to our way of life. Once you clear that hurdle you'll be able to lead your own events.
