Magic find

I kept on eating food with magic find +% today and just noticed what this probably does.

I am about lvl 35 and fought in Charr's first map to find special food ingredient seller. Got about 3 or 4 equipments of lvl 30. So I think the magic find function may be extra drop that a little lower than the current lvl.

So having a lot of MF equipments and food will cause good loot anywhere you fight.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's what it does: increase your chances of getting higher quality gear drops - Masterwork, Rare, etc. I think the level of the gear dropped is tied to your character's level. Even in zones where you are sidekicked down to the level of the content, you'll usually get some drops that are usable at your character's true level.

I was sidekicked from 35 to around 10 in that map,and most of the equipments I got there was in accordance with that zone level. Not fully sure those lvl 30+ equipments were cause by default or by MF. Further experiment is needed.

My assumption went something like this: Normally (numbers totally made up for example sake): 30% chance to get a drop with magic loot Of that 30%: 60% chance gray loot 30% chance blue loot 10% chance green loot or something to that effect. I would assume it either increases the 30% chance of a magic loot dropping to 35% or swings the rarity so: 50% chance gray loot 35% chance blue loot 15% chance green loot Pretty tough to confirm without Dev interaction though.

Making up numbers for theory crafting but this is ONE theory I have. Mobs have a static 10% chance to drop gear. If it decides gear is dropped, then there is like 75% chance for blue, 20% chance for green, 5% chance for yellow. Magic find alters the ratio to like 74/21/5 or something similar. Also, I think "at level" drops are a seperate thing. Just like a 50/50 chance

"Also, I think "at level" drops are a seperate thing. Just like a 50/50 chance" So are you saying that if you're in a downgraded area, your chance of loot drops off significantly? If so have the devs stated this anywhere? (just curious).

Well as some people have pointed out, some times you get drops for your level, sometimes you get drops for the level of the zone you're in. I think this is determined from its own "roll" type function. I think it would be like this to prevent people from constantly farming level 1 mobs. Just like the experience is lower. Even though you are "leveled down" I know from experience that the higher level armor DOES make level 1-15 zones a cake walk.

Well, I just found a "Dubloon" with a 1% magic find increase as the stat that can be slotted in anything with an unused slot. I'm waiting to put it into something that I will be wearing for many levels - like a piece of jewelry or something so it stays with me for quite a while. I am having high hopes for it - but then maybe not :) :( we'll see.

ack ... hit post reply by accident and posted an empty space - so let me add... I have no characters over level 15 and I love the fact I found a "doubloon" dropping off of a bandit (close to a pirate.... arhgggg).

The other day I had a rune drop that was nothing but matching Magic Find such that if you had a full set of 6 on your armor you would have a permanent 50% Magic Find. The immediately obvious downside is that you're stacking Magic Find at the expense of other stats like Precision, Power, Vitality, etc.
