Collectors Edition Should I open it?

In all seriousness I'm torn between opening it and ruining the whole collector aspect or not opening it for it to (hopefully) gain value like the WoW Original Collectors Edition (Valued at $4k now). 

My wife told me that if I don't open it and it gains value she'd let me sell it so we could buy a Sultan gaming table from GeekChiq. Since these are $15k + tables this is quite the offer making the decision even harder.

So, if it makes money the deal is even sweeter but I have to sell my CE. If it's valueless I keep my CE having never had the joy of opening it AND I don't get a Sultan :-(. If I open it I get the sweet smell of new paper and get the soundtrack and that awesome Rytlock action figure BUT I definently don't get a Sultan.

The anti is up and all bets are on! What does the family think I should do?!

Well you could buy two Collectors Editions, and only open one. If I had your dilemma, that is what I would do.

Seriously? 4k? Dang I have opened WoW CE because well I didn't get it to collect.

Hmm. That is how much they want. I wonder how much the actual offers have been. I have a hard time believing they will actually get 4k for that.

People can ask any (ridiculous) amount they want. If I had a spare 4k, I'd bet it on the WoW CE not selling for anywhere near that... if he gets any offer he feels is worth accepting. In fact, I would bet there are just too many people who buy CEs with the idea of collecting them for them to be worth much of anything. But that's just my gut talking. I don't have any hard figures on the subject.

I make a HORRIBLE actual "collector." I never buy collectors editions of games to make a profit. IF I buy a "collectors" anything that is tied to a video game like Guild Wars 2 it is because there is something in there I really, REALLY want and so I open the dang thing up. I have baseball cards (yes, I am really female. yes, I was a tomboy growing up so I collected baseball cards- I am still a tomboy, will die a tomboy - GO RANGERS! lol =) and other things that were bought to be protected, stared at when I am in the mood and then passed on to other generations (Like my artist autographed Serra Angel card from MtG). But, so far, the few times I bought editions of games I was playing that had collectibles it was for something in them. I played Everquest for YEARS with my Firiona Vie figurine right in my sight-line while I played along with the keychains of the epic weapons. I still have that stuff, tucked away so I can pull them out and peek at them and smile. *hops off her soapbox, giggling* But yeah, if you have the big bucks snag a second one for you so you can open it and have fun with the goodies inside. NOTHING is more fun that opening it up while you are sitting in your favorite spot in the house and going through all the stuff and "Oooooing" over it all. IMHO.

MtG Now those I did well with. Course they were opened played cards but I still sold them for a nice profit. Even at that I sold them earlier than I could have because I was afraid the allure would fade out. Ended up way under selling my beta black lotus. I just started buying baseball cards again but not because I expect great value. The 90s ruined that.

I will still, 40+ years later, buy one single pack just like I did back in my youth with my precious allowance money just to see who I get and hoping it's someone I like to watch play. =)

Once an art collector told me that, you don't buy art because you think it will go up in value later, you buy art because you completely love the piece. So I kind of have that mentality on this stuff too - i wouldnt buy something like this in hopes it will be an investment, but to enjoy it. That said, if you really believe it will net you a value later, grab a second one to stow away! :)
