Hi, I was just wondering if you guys had some info about what is good and bad about the warrior class. Like: Do they have good AoE's or are they more single target, and It would be nice to know what you guys think is the best wepon for a warrior like most usefull for pvp. I have heard that Hammer is very good and such :). Hope you can help me ?

Most of their aoe abilities are melee ranged (ie greatsword, hammer) other than some of the longbow abilities (which a few key ones are aoe). Ax, sword, mace skills are single target, but the auto attack on these can hit multiple targets if the targets are clumped together. Rifle is all single target. As far as "best"? Best crowd control/defensive setup: Hammer paired with mace/shield. Best crowd control/offensive setup: Hammer paired with mace/mace. Best ranged aoe damage: Longbow Best single target ranged dps: Rifle Best "single" target melee offense: Probably Ax/Ax paired with practically anything else Best condition melee dps: Sword/Sword paired with Ax/Ax or Rifle. So it really depends on what you want to be able to do. Plus the dynamics of the game really change based on whether you're playing WvW, sPvP, or PvE.

Hi Chamorro, I think looking good can be either but for me it would have to be norn if I had to chose out of the tow, But personally I am going to be human but as well you can get targeted when big norn char is better they run on all 4's and that is really good for not getting targeted but cool looking I not sure either :D

Hey there! I think I can help. Ive been theorycrafting my warrior for a month now.. just waiting for release. Anyways, warriors can basically fulfill any of the three main roles of GW2, by which I mean Damage, Support, Control. Theres builds that succeed awesomely at all three. You just gotta decide which you wanna do. For support you have shouts and banners. Both are area buffs that can be built to offer additional bonuses. If you check out my thread in the Warrior thread, youll see my shouts heal, remove a condition, and build adrenaline on top of its original effect. For damage, you have some nice options as well. A build that was talked about a lot was the Bull Rush, quickness, Hundred Blades combo build. Specced into stances, a warrior could run up and knock you down, proccing this 4s quickness that makes your attacks faster, including for channeled spells, like... Hundred Blades, which he uses next, and can do a totally rediculous amount of damage so quickly, and its tricky to avoid. Meanwhile hundred blades builds adrenaline so they swap to their axe with sigils of intelligence and own your face with an amped up 100% crit chance eviscerate. For control you have a lot of options. Hammer and mace and shield offers you a ton of cc abilities. Combine this with some of the physical skills like stomp and throw bolas and you can be a real nightmare. Weapons. Personally Ill be using sword and warhorn and a rifle. Sword offers a really nice ability to leap toward your opponent, which you cab follow up with a 9s cripple, all the while applying stacks and stacks of bleeding. Warhorn gives me a nice speed buff, which can also be used in combat to break cc effects. It also gives me an area buff/debuff that doubles how fast the dodge bar regenerates for friendlys, and halves it for enemies. Warrior has two different ranged options. The Rifle and the Longbow. The Rifle is more focused on single target damage. Its autoattacks cause bleeding, it has a nice vulnerability debuff, and it has a nice ranged cripple as well. The longbow is similar but is more focused on aoe damage, from what Ive heard. I havnt tried the Longbow personally. Other 1h weapons are axe and mace. Axe has an awesome burst ability and a point blank area of effect vulnerability debuff. It also has a short ranged cripple. Mace offers cc in the form of stuns. It also has a weakness debuff. Greatsword and hammer. Greatsword offers good mobility, and good damage. Hammer offers a lot of cc and knockback. I didnt play much with these weapons either. One thing all warriors have in common is finishers. Warriors have the greatest amount of combo finishers but no combo fields at all. This makes them twice as deadly in a team as lonewolfing it. Having no combo fields is probably the major disadvantage of the warrior. Basically everything is viable, you can just choose a flavor you like and find a build that works well with it. Maybe choose a set of utility spells you like and build around it. Lemme know kinda what you wanna play and ill give you an example build. Edit: lol nooo! My post took too long to type and he already got answered lol. Oh well I hope someone reading found it somewhat useful. :-)

I really like the warrior, and it'll prolly be my main at release. In PVE I usually run axe/shield + Greatsword. Axe/shield is a really nice single target control+damage pair of weapons. Greatsword for AoE, plus the mobility (#5). So zoom-zoom to the next fight and AoE or stun/Eviscerate. It's fun! Sometimes I'll swap the greatsword for a Hammer when I want more control, plus it has a good zoom-zoom + AE stun skill (the F1 burst ability). In WvW I run axe/shield + rifle. No idea how I'll manage a decent spec for melee+ranged but I find it super helpful to have the ranged option when there's a huge zerg with no easy melee opportunities, or to get a finishing blow on a fleeing opponent when my gap closers are on cooldown. Otherwise, I gap close + stun with Shield #4, Eviscerate or Bull's Rush. Cripple with Axe #3 if I need help getting into range for my gap closers. Stun + chop-chop with my axe. Folks usually go down. :) Another skill I like on rifle for WvW: #5. It's a melee range knockback - I use it to keep opponents from staking my downed allies. I'd say warrior's biggest weakness (at least the way I play it) is clearing conditions, and normal runspeed buffs. Not many options for either of those with warrior.

Another question: has anyone had a chance to try out the Norn shapeshifter elites? I have a 30 warrior now in stress test, but she's a Twig People. Like Chamorro I'm trying to decide between Norn and Charr.

Well I would have had plenty to contribute to this post, but it seems everyone has already beaten me to it. I'll just iterate a few points. " A build that was talked about a lot was the Bull Rush, quickness, Hundred Blades combo build. Specced into stances, a warrior could run up and knock you down, proccing this 4s quickness that makes your attacks faster, including for channeled spells, like... Hundred Blades, which he uses next, and can do a totally rediculous amount of damage so quickly, and its tricky to avoid." -- This will probably be the best pvp spec paired with the Axe/Axe or hammer in my opinion. Someone that wasn't really covered was a punting Warrior. Warriors have several skills that knock people back. I haven't got to test it too much, but for WvWvW I think it would be nice to have a build that gets into enemy lines quickly picks a target, and punts them into the middle of our lines. Just a thought.

The punt strategy is good situationally, but often it's pretty dangerous to the warrior who will be focused hard with those DoTs and CCs we can't clear so easily. Three classes (maybe more) have skills that "pull" folks from a distance and I saw teams using these against us yesterday: Necro, Guardian, Mesmer. The Guardian and Mesmer skills each pull multiple enemies, and the Mesmer one has a range of 1200! As I mentioned above I tend to I reserve my knockbacks to prevent or delay staking. A few times yesterday I was able to knockback someone already in the process of staking and either kill them, or keep them off the downed ally long enough for that person to get back up. Once I knocked back someone who was rezzing an enemy -- this turned out a good decision because the downed player would have been up before I could kill the rezzer who turned out to be pretty tough (guardian?).

Lakshmi, you should check out my build in the Builds section. Tons of condition and CC removal as well as a swiftness buff. :D

I posted this in Gamdrin's thread, but this is my current thought of how I plan to play warrior and how I plan to change it based on my current role: I am also thinking of doing a shout based build. It is kind of based on Taugrim's Captain Hammer build with a few modifications. This is the build I was thinking of running for dungeons... It doesn't do a ton of damage, but it is great in survivability and brings a TON of healing to the party. http://www.gw2db.com/skills/calc/warrior#16|9|60|16754|65|919|1890|0|0|0|0|0|0|0|0|30|1895|1081|1491|30|1513|1510|1056|10|1104|0|0|1|15|

For dungeon gear I was thinking of...

  • The pve equivalent of cleric's jewel / ammy
  • Dwayna's runes so I give the party regen 5 seconds out of every 20 (and give myself regen when tanking).

For WvWvW I was thinking of...

  • Changing to mace / warhorn and longbow... adding the faster longbow trait
  • Using runes of the centaur to keep give my party permanent swiftness

For sPvP I was thinking of...

  • Mace/Warhorn + hammer but swapping to soldiers runes for the condition removal
  • 10% faster movement when using melee weapons...

For solo / gathering I was thinking of....

  • Sword/warhorn + greatsword for the massive speed boost
  • Runes of the centaur for permanent swiftness
  • 10% faster movement when using melee weapons...

@Gamdrin, Warrior speed boosts and CC removal aren't terrible, it's just that some classes have options for nearly 100% swiftness uptime from skills alone, and/or much more condition removal than 3 every 25s. I'm not complaining... warrior definitely got it's share of good tricks too. Build looks good to me, btw, not that I'm an expert hehe. :) @Jerich, I confess I didn't pour over the Trading Post, so I haven't yet seen Runes for PVE that have the same bonuses as Centaur. Have you? It would be awesome if we could get those same bonuses outside of sPVP. Also, for some reason your build link doesn't work for me - it redirects to http://www.gw2db.com/skills/calc/warrior One of the things I love about GW2 classes is the big range of weapons and playstyles that are possible. I don't often use warhorn myself because there's no damage or control on it (I see it as a support weapon), and I damage/control is what I like to do. But it's GREAT to have support as an option!

I haven't seen where to get the rune of the centaur yet but I am guessing it will be available either with level 400 leatherworker or in a dungeon like most of the other runes. I am not sure why that build does not work for you. Basically I am doing 30 of the toughness / healing and 30 of the vitality /boon. I am using three shouts including the new shout.
