Hello,

WIth an October release of Windows 8, I was wondering if anyone knew how GW2 performs running Windows 8.

I currently have Windows 7, and the GW2 beta ran smoothly for me.    Come October, I am interested in upgrading to Windows 8.

Did anyone happen to play GW2 beta running the Windows 8 pre-release?

Due to the changes to Win8 it's a good question as to whether or not GW2 (or any Win7 or before software) will work on Win8. I've heard some does, some doesn't. Until MS and software vendors get patches/libraries available for Win8 I will be sticking with Win7. I've had how Win8 is built explained to me (I can't really repeat it well), hopefully the PC version will come with the required libraries to make legacy software work with the new OS.

Hmm. Wonder how the conversion to Windows 8 will compare to the conversion from 3.1 to 95.

8 looks scary to me. But I'm reasonably hopeful all major game companies will handle it.

Windows 8 looks more designed for touch screens and until they come down in price I won't even consider it. But could you imagine playing GW2 on a touch screen? Insane!

I haven't had problems running any work apps on Win8 (consumer preview). My gaming rig is still running Win7.

Regardless of whether it will run, you might want to see if it's supported. If not and you run into a problem you most likely won't receive the same level of support as those running supported OSes if any. At least not officially. Considering this is ArenaNet I'd be surprised if one or more devs didn't jump in with unofficial support due to their own enthusiasm.

Read an article that's related. http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Windows-8-Gaming-developers-Stardock-Newell,16788.html Not a clear answer provided, just that Microsoft saying "Xbox-Windows in 8 is great" and developers (valve, Blizzard, id, Stardock) are being skeptical. Backwards compatibility I'd think would be enough for the games we're playing now.

I tried windows 8 for about a week. It pretty much takes your 2K$ computer, and turns it into a cell phone operated by a mouse :/ Im really glad I did an image of my hdd before I Installed Windows 8 >_<

I think those game companies are being more than skeptical myself. heheh Valve is already moving forward with putting all its games over to linux. I have no intention of ever using it myself and MS's OEM's seem near revolting over their new "laptop" The Surface. Overall I'm not sure how MS will or will not fair, I just know I have no interest in either touch screen (this is really *not* beneficial to corporate environments to do real business that relies on accuracy and speed) or making my computer pretend its something it clearly isn't. Mouse "swishes" to pretend its a "pad"... really? That being said, I'm sticking with Winxp :D I guess I am also a bit biased since I have worked for MS before and really grew to dislike them.

Honestly, I'd say wait for windows 8 to get straightened out the first few months after it comes out. Even ignoring what a lot of game companies are saying, it definitely doesnt seem like a very practical system.

Don't recommend jumping into a new OS when it just releases. It's wise to wait a few months after the release to avoid conflicts.

From what I've seen of win 8, I don't think it will see alot of mainstream/workplace usage. Looks like it's geared towards people who have experience with smartphones/tablets and not computers, or perhaps as an alternate OS for tablets. I know I'll be hanging on to 7 for dear life, hopefully they don't drop support.

It works fine. I've had no issues running Win8 with GW2. So far no problems at all, really. Just a few display driver issues. It's to be expected being that NVidia and AMD both have a couple months to get official drivers out.

Thank you for all the input. The reason I am eager to upgrade to Windows 8 as soon as possible is that Microsoft is offering a promotion. From October (when Win8 launches) until January 2013, they are selling the Windows 8 professional upgrade for only $40. (Can upgrade from any version of XP, Vista, or Win7 to Win8 professional). After January 2013, the price will skyrocket to regular expected price. http://windowsteamblog.com/windows/b/bloggingwindows/archive/2012/07/02/upgrade-to-windows-8-pro-for-39-99.aspx

Going to show my lack of knowledge in 3..2..1.. I was about to get Win7 up and running this week prior to launch. With Win8 coming out in October, I may wait since the price will drop I imagine on Win7. Or will Win7 no longer be available for purchase once 8 is out? I have no idea how the sale of operating systems work for consumers. -niri
