I received a call from the bank fraud department this morning. After verifying it was really my bank (because I'm suspicious like that these days), and them verifying it was really me, they asked if I'd purchased $50 worth of garcinia pills from North Korea. Apparently, North Korea is not really high on the trustworthiness scale, so the fraud department declined that transaction and called me right away. However, they did find another garcinia transaction made from within the US (or at least a company that may have had a US IP). That one went had gone through, but the bank reversed that one for me. Needless to say, I've cancelled my bank card, and I'm going to go to the three credit bureaus to put a fraud alert on my name. I'll be doing a malware and in depth antivirus scan, although I suspect that it's related to an online purchase I made through Alibaba or possibly the Target or hospital hackings that happened in the last 9 months (see here for an article on it: http://money.cnn.com/2014/08/18/technology/security/hospital-chs-hack/ ).
Anyway, it's really easy to ignore checking our bank statements, but since my card got hacked, and I'm generally careful about these things, I highly recommend you check your accounts, too. That way, you can make sure there are no fraudulent transactions, and if there are, you can get them reversed by your bank quickly. Don't let those thieves get any more money!
