Now that the intro to the club is done, I figure I might as well be the first to post.
Firstly for all the family who have asked, yes, my characther name is taken from the book "Crystal Singer" by Anne McCaffrey. This is one of my favorite series, not only because of the Lead characther, but because of the types of challenges she faces, but also because of the flaws she is shown to have.
other series i love (in no particular order):
1) the belgariad series by david eddings - FORGET ALL YOU KNOW ABOUT TOLKIEN - Eddings brings not only the land to life but the characthers as well not only was this the first time i read a book where the female characthers were interesting, but characthers from foriegn lands had foriegn interests that made you stop and question the method they took to get their ends. Not only that but for the two lead characthers to acutally argue over taking a bath had me ROFLOL for hours. GIve eddings a try, if you get past 50 pages of story - he's got you!
2) The Malloreon by David Eddings- the continuation of the story told in the Belgariad series. more of the same, but the charachters are older, the relationships have changed, and the stakes are higher.
3) Belgarath the Sorcerer by David Eddings - the beginning of the Belgariad saga from Belgarath's point of view
4) Polgara the Sorceress by David Eddings - the conclusion to the beginning of the saga from Polgara's point of view - you will finally learn why she has such an affinity for Sendria, as well as why she is so "at home" in Arendia.
FORGET GAME OF THRONES - HBO NEEDS TO MAKE THIS INTO A SERIES!
5) the Skylark series by E. E. "Doc" Smith - the Grandfather of science fiction gives us a sci-fi adventure that re-defined science fiction for me!
6) The Lensmen Series by E. E. "Doc" Smith - the series that made Star Trek, Star Wars, Babylon 5, Stargate, and all others like it possible. H.G. Wells deserves his due, but it was nothing Like this!
7) Stainless Steel Rat by Harry Harrison - story of a Thief (or rat) who makes bad and proceeds to get even badder!
8) The horseclans series by Robert Adams - Conan was great - but even he would have trouble with these "barbarians"
9) Myth Series by Robert Asprin - science fiction meets science fantasy and travels to the land of oz! best way i can describe the enjoyment that was this series - speaking of whcih, there are serveral books i never read....must run!
10) Heist Society by Ally Carter - this is a book written for primarly the female teen audience but being a fan of "caper-style tv and movies (Leverage & the thomas crown affair), this was a book i could not put down. not only was it well written, but the first book touched on a part of history you don't often hear about anymore. I hope future books revisit this point (you'll know it when you read it).
11) ElfQuest by Wendy and Richard Pini - I know it's a comic, but this was a fantastic story throughout the run it had with Marvel Comics in the 80's. Cameron should forget about a sequal to "Avatar" and give us an Elfquest Movie!
12) Ferengi Rules of Acquisition by Quark - All 285 rules available for easy reference! Read - Learn - Use!
Ok, for now that's my short list of books that i not only love, but have read several times over the years! I can't wait to see what other gems are out there that i have missed or forgotten since i first read them.
