Latest PS3 update 4.45 is causing some very bad juju to happen to some consoles. The patch has been removed by SOE, but if you're like me and have Autoupdate turned on, I'd suggest not installing the downloaded patch. I'm not sure what to do with it yet, but once I get a chance later to see how to deny the install and get rid of the downloaded file, I'll post my results.
Of course if anyone has already figured this out, feel most welcome to comment with your procedures and results.
I think Sony is reverting to Microsoft tactics here... lol :)
Firmware 4.45 is a "feature" that was designed to brick your PS3. The long term goal is to get you to "upgrade" to a PS4. :)
Seriously tho, thank you for sharing this. I just bought Skylanders for my kid's PS3.
SOE said its happened to a "small number of consoles", but vague details on the cause or reason why, and they did pull the patch to see what happened. So it might not do anything, but better off to just not install it because it is causing some consoles to lose the XMB, which is the graphical interface, so the unit becomes unusable.
New firmware update (v.4.46) and SOE has posted a fix for anyone that "bricked" their PS3 w/ v.4.45 which was the faulty firmware.
