Sounds a tad sketchy, the best in show was given to a game not in show, for reasons no one can discuss. Sure hopefully EQN will be something amazing but it just seems designed to generate interest in a particular game.
Interesting. I had forgotten all about EQN, now I'm looking forward to their announcement in August.
Still raiding the original Everquest at level 100 and loving it! Rumors say EQN will be 1 part open world gw2, 1 part wow themepark, 1 part sandbox, and 1 part eq classic open world dungeons.. we'll see. I agree, the fact that they didn't show leads me to believe they don't have anything material to announce. I knew when I played ESO they wouldn't hit the winter date. I think this is a way for SOE to get excitement without having to make any promises they can't keep, maybe even paid mmorpg off heh
SOE is predictable.
Here is what we know about SOE:
Here is what we can predict about EQ.Next:

Well, the reasons for choosing it as the winner were decidedly vague.
Playable EQNext was shown only to select media at E3 this year. They were sworn to NDA. SOE didn't show anything at E3 because they wanted to make their own SOE Live event more important. EQNext will be revealed August 2 at SOE Live. Follow @Everquest_Next for info as it is released. Supposedly some teaser screenshots are going to be released at that Twitter over the next two months, but none so far.
Can't blame SOE for holding things close to the vest, especially with Blizzard and its Titan project. Blizzard tried to pull the rug out from under SOE and EQ2 a decade ago and I'd assume that it was a lesson learned and remembered.
Really... I think they did say why they picked it - even if they couldn't give the exact details. But, "blown away by every detail" and "when you see you'll understand and not be disappointed" is a clear indication to me that in "their eyes" it stood head and shoulders above everything else they saw.
Yes, I agree that Sony has had a history of disppointing me and others but I give everything a chance to stand on it's own merits. No more lifetime subs for me, no more going all bonkers over a game that may or may not be the next big thing - but I am willing to give everything a chance to "blow me away" or to suck. If I can get a month or two of play from the game then I will not be disappointed with the purchase price. I have blown more money on fat reducing programs than I ever will on games :)
The good points for me though were about Destiny - which I am looking forward to and that ESO got some Buzz. I shall also look forward to the reveal on the new EQ as I did love that game.
I'm actually pretty excited about EQ Next. SOE President John Smedley is an EVE Online fan and wanted EQ to return to its sandbox roots. He's been quoeted as saying Devs can't keep up with the rate of consumption of MMO gamers these days, so gamers need to become the entertainment. I've been waiting for a return to sandbox elements for several years so I couldn't be happier, personally.
Could it crash and burn? Sure. People love to bash SOE, it's the hipster thing to do. It's done very little to inspire confidence with titles since EQ1. However, I think a company can learn from its failures as well as its successes, and SOE has had both with EQ2. So we'll see.
I started playing MMOs in 1998 with EQ1. Of all the MMOs I have played since then, not one of them has been able to replicate the unique server communities that deverloped due to EQ1's game design. Reputation mattered in EQ1 and there was massive amounts of server politics, both good and bad.
