Any PTO tips for a new PTO officer?

Because I am a. insane and/or b. have a seriously bad case of 'helium hand' and can't say no when someone asks for a volunteer, I'm now the vice president of our middle school PTO. I'm an old hand at running fairly large events and doing organizational things, so that part won't be hard. I've also volunteered at my kids' schools before. I just haven't done it at the middle school level.

If you have any tips for fun stuff for middle schoolers and helping with fund-raising, please share! I'd love to hear as many ideas as you all have. :)

get together with a group of students when you decide to plan a fun event cause lets face it what we consider fun is not the same as with them (found that one out the hard way)

I'm a giant geek. I think discussing politics, religion, and gaming is fun. So, I definitely like your idea. I think I'll ask some students to be my 'cultural liaisons' for Current Middle School Land. I do know that One Direction is THE Boy Band that all girls seem to adore. They're kind of fun to listen to, too. Seeing the Principal do "Gangnam Style" on Just Dance 3 would be freaking hilarious, however.
