I started fermenting my own kombucha back in December of 2012. This beverage is a fermentation of tea and is reportedly healthy for you and filled with probiotics. (If you purchase and drink it already, you probably are aware that is isn't cheap to buy it.) Making your own is quite economical.
The culture for this fermentation is called a SCOBY (symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast). My scobys are growing in three different kinds of tea currently. They are so active in fact that I can share scobys with anyone interested, as I hate to throw the extras away.
If you would like to try your hand at this, email or facebook me with a real world address to ship to. (My email and facebook are on my profile.) I will reply with instructions on how to make your own kombucha and mail you a scoby for free. Unless so many respond that I will go broke from shipping charges, in which case shipping reimbursement would be appreciated. :D
I generally feed mine and bottle the result weekly and that is when I would collect a scoby for you and mail it out.
Stay healthy,
