@Abusabus:
You know one of the nice things about both the United States of America and South Korea is we both have freedom of expression and speech. People can have varying political opinions and it's allowed and is (supposed) to be appreciated, even if you don't agree with what they are saying. Mind you I was not trying to be political is posting about PSY's new video, it's a, in my opinion, funny video. I tend to look past people's religion and politics when they are entertainers, I enjoy (some of) their product but not necessarily all of it. This also applies to people I hang out with, I have friends that I cannot see eye to eye with about politics and/or religion but they are my friends because we have other shared interests that we bond over and know not to talk about sensitive subjects like religion or politics. I was well aware of "Dear America" before you mentioned it. I'd also classify it as a protest song not an anti-America song. Again protesting is another thing both Americans and South Koreans can do legally, because we have the rights to make our opinions known about the actions of our own and other governments. In America there is plenty of anti-Arab (especially in the early 2000's) and anti-North Korean (currently) rhetoric going around, that is no different in core message than what PSY stated in "Dear America". In our modern culture extremeness of expression is the norm not the exception; strong, impactful wording and/or images are needed to gain any notice anymore. Also, PSY has lived in America, and has said good things about America in interviews. Plus the country is not the government it is the people. To take people disagreements with government policy as attacks on the people is a fallacious way of looking at anti-government statements or protests. Taking only one source (a song) that is meant to be noticed, so has increased impact in it's lyrics so it will be noticed and making a judgement. In 2002-2004 that was a different administration in our government, that a lot of Americans disagreed with as is the right of Americans to do. Plus, people change, political views change, no person is an unchanging automata. We (people, all people) are influenced by our surroundings, our past experiences, our present.
