i swear i read it somewhere on these forums that he was an investor in elder scrolls.  I find that interesting since his gaming company 38 studios filed and has huge debt.  i looked for the post in these forums that listed all the investors in eso but can't find it to see if i am correct in who it was that was listed.

if anybody has that list or link could you post it or reference it in this post plz...ty

I've seen forum posts about should curt schilling buy elder scrolls. *By fans not actual developers, business people, or even anyone related* But honestly I've never seen him play any part in ZeniMax or Bethesda. On a side note I know several 38 studios developers went to ZeniMax Online to work on Elder Scrolls including their a couple members of the community team, who before 38 studios worked for Trion during the launch of RIFT. yeah the list i looked at just showed the funding for the project of TESO and not necessarily any direct impact on game design. I was just curios if he has learned to not try and do a start up again and has decided to back (with his own money) existing companies. I don't fault the man for giving up on 38 studios......It is one of the most demanding jobs out there with little to no reward at first. and you only get that reward if you are successful (otherwise you just get lots of vocal critics). The list i saw had about 8 to 10 people/companies that were financially involved (not creatively involved) in TESO. I am going to keep digging..lol...i got that bug now and its itching like crazy.

ESO is funded by $300 million investment from Providence Equity Partners (http://www.zenimax.com/news_pressrelease10.25.07.htm) Providence Equity Partners has the following people on the board of directors. ZeniMax Media President Ernest Del, Leslie Moonves (President and CEO of CBS), Harry E. Sloan (Chairman and CEO of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc.), Robert S. Trump (President of Trump Management), noted film and television producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr. It is also largely funded by the widespread success of the Fallout Franchise and the Elder Scrolls Franchise.

Hes facing a whole lot of lawsuits from the state because of 38 studios. The whole ordeal is saddening to say the least.

It is sad. The only good that came out of it was the other companies taking in the laid off workers. Massive outpouring of support. Kingdoms of Amalur was a GREAT game and I really was looking forwards towards the sequel. Also the outcome of Project Copernicus.

Yeah it's a shame what happened with 38 Studios, I was really looking forward to the MMO for Kingdoms of Amalur. I thought it was EA that broke them, I didn't realise it was Curt. I never really looked into why it failed or what happened though.

from what i hear Curt was not a bad guy to work for. He did dump massive amounts of his own money in..i think to the tune of 50 million..but I don't think 38 studios failed because of him. Its incredibly hard to break into that business.

Truth be told they set out to build an mmo with the budget of an mmo and the development time of an mmo but when the networking side fo things got in the way they turned it into a single player console game. The problem is they veted investors on the idea they were making an mmo and that wasnt the product the6 delivered. When the game launched it didnt sell enough copies to pay back the loans. Including one from the state. The cost of making a single player console game is drastically less than an mmo. Their original model factored in subscriptions which never came to be.

"The cost of making a single player console game is drastically less than an mmo." Which was what raised questions, very good questions, about "What actually happened to the money?". Its definitely suspicious, I suppose that it could be called a ponzi scheme that went horribly wrong.
