I know we have many games to look forward to on the horizon, but I thought I would pass this along for anyone that may not have heard of it, and be interested in the distant future.

Not much info on it right now that I can dig up, but I'll be watching this one develop for sure. :)

After reading Mark Jacobs' overall design and Foundation Principles, I can definitely say I will be in on the Kickstarter for this one. Light PvE with a TriRealm focus just sounds like too much fun to pass up. However, the engine was not mentioned --I certainly hope it is not browser-based. And, it sounds like a faction tailor-made for the Gaiscioch has already been decided upon. Also, the wife has not played a game where player-crafted items trumped drops in a very long time (Project Entropia), so even she is looking forward to CU.

I'm guarded with my hopes these days, but I will certainly be joining in. I hope they don't reduce the PvE too much. It was the balance between the two, and the relationship between them, that I liked in Old Camelot. GW2 is nicely done, but WvW, PvP and PvE are like three games that look alike.

I signed up for the newsletter so that I can keep track of it. The concept is sound and I would really like an "old school" MMORPG if it is done right. So I'll be in the "wait and see" mode. A lot of what he states in his doctrines is exactly how I feel/beleve (I started MMO's with EQ and always wished for an EQ with updated engine/graphics - dying did mean something and no, it didn't bother me - although it made me think a lot more) ... so he has my attention.

I'll have to follow the Kickstarter page for this, too. If its just RvR and no PvE, then I imagine it won't take as long as a normal MMO to make and release.

Didn't you guys felt that some things that he intends to apply to the game are outdated concept of the game industry? I have seen an interview with Mark Jacobs on Gamebreaker, he seems to understand this concepts will not appeal to most of the crowd out there but still he is planning to use them. I am unsure if this is going to work, after all he will need to keep servers up and if he has a very low revenue it might be hard to do so.

I'm not sure I would call the concept "outdated" but "old school" which in my mind is not the same. No, old school will not go over with all the "new" generation of MMORPG players who desire simple and quick - low learning curve - get to the end of game quickly and want more. I am old school and as I stated I long for a great game that has those principals. I remember taking a month to do quests and even recruiting help since at least several portions of the quest string needed a group - but at the end of the chain I had my epic spear - and it was an achievement that I felt proud of. When I held that spear in a city or in an event - people would congratulate you - they knew what it took to get it. It wasn't a lucky drop.... it wasn't bought on an Auction House - it was 50 hours of gaming in the later levels when it took you about a year of gaming just to get to max. Fighting a dragon took a guild with coordination - not running into a field and spamming <1> to kill it. Fighting a dragon was an "EVENT". Now there are some old school things I don't want to come back to - but many I do. I don't want severe death penalties like having to find my body to get my equipment back. I don't want to have to study a spell book to regen mana. But honestly I wouldn't mind having to scribe spells into a book and load up the spells I wish to use. I wouldn't mind a rogue that actually had to sneak from behind so as not to be seen. I wouldn't mind a mage who could cast invisibility on themselves or someone else but that person couldn't walk through a crowded room since they still have substance. There are a lot of old schools spells/skills that I would like to see come back also instead of the whirling dervishes we have now where warriors and rogues do some stuff that only mages or warlocks could do before. BUT... it is all a matter of perspective - are these things "old school" or are they "outdated". I think it is a mix - it is up to the Devs in CU to pick out the best and use them and leave out the worst if they wish to be successful. But as far as me being invested in a game - I would welcome it taking me a year to level to max - that I had to take my time - that I would actually become invested in my character. I am not invested in my characters in GW2 and although I like them - they are expendable. I have 3 lvl 80's and one at 75 and I'm actually redoing 2 of the lvl 80's just to change their names/race since it isn't a problem leveling them and since I know exactly what slot skills and traits I want them to have now - it will be even easier. In "old school" you had better like your character before you get to max or change her within the first 20 levels - you became invested in your character. You had alts - but to get 3 to max level was years of gameplay - not a few months. It was this investment in the game by individuals that made the game sustain itself. Not an influx of new players every month. OK - I've rambled enough... I apologize.

I'm also old school (started with EQ then DAOC) and do miss the challenge. GW2 is very easy and honestly is getting boring after only a few months. I am really trying to like it since I have nothing else to play atm, but looking forward to a game like CU to come out and hopefully offer something more challenging

I am a old fart lol and I am also one of those who have thought they have dumbed down MMO way too much. It used to be a challenge and it used to be a great sense of accomplishment to possess those top tier items. People used to be impressed by the accomplishment of being all decked out. It showed you worked hard for that. Todays MMO's give it away way too easy. GW2 I had a full set of top tier armor within a month of release which was depressing. I think its the biggest problem they have in the market now. When you give everything away so quickly people get bored faster because the goals have been met. If you buck the system you get called old school and that it would not go over well . But in reality those games that do have a more old school feel also maintain there player base longer. Look at some of the older titles once they may not have the millions of people like the newer ones but they also do not seem to bleed customers like mad like the newer ones also. I have a lot of high hopes for this game but there are a few things I think they might be shooting themselves in the foot with. No storyline is a big turn off to a lot of people in the MMO market. I understand its associated with theme park but in all honesty no 100% sandbox MMO that wasn't scifi theme aka eve online has ever succeeded for very long. I think they should try and make it a mix of both like daoc was. Some of the most fond memories I have of daoc is the pvp dungeon, the relic runs and intelligent armor that leveled with you. I wish more games had armor that actually gave you a reason to keep killing monsters.

DAOC had that well my gear ain't good enough feel so you had to go out and tweak and improve on it to advance in the game. Mobs would eat you up if you didn't. If you did have the good gear and had learned to play your class you could be deadly. But if you had a bad day and didn't style correctly or came up against someone that had the moves down pat better than yourself you could get dogged badly.

Getting closer and closer to the kickstarter! MJ said he has been fine tuning the pledges details and will be letting the cat out of the bag soon. Something like over 50! Plus by the look of it, Camelot unchained will be the first RvR type kickstarter for niche hardcore players.

Will be watching this one with interest. After the last few games I have played...I am coming to the realization that I don't want to be hand held quite so much...unfortunately the quests can quickly become click to accept and then follow the arrow until completion...without having to put any real effort or thought to it. Finding it hard to keep my interest anymore. Now that's either I am getting older...or the games are changing....not sure which is the biggest issue yet.

You know i ponder that myself. Is it that i am getting old and games don't mean as much to me (I know that's blaspheme) or is it that i just don't get that connection to a toon/character. Also its that feel of immersion in a game, does the world feel alive is it constantly drawing me in to it. I just had another thought, do you think it is the hand holding and maps pointing you right to the location. One of the things that interested me with DAOC was that quest made you think (I know CU will not have PvE, so possibly no quests) but no only did they make you think, there was no go to this exact location. You had to ask npc to point you in the direction or go by the quest journal and follow the very general directions that they sent you e.g. head east along the river bank. That's all you got and if you didn't follow the instructions you would not complete the quest.

Sweet man! Mark Jacobs is doing a great job with relaying and clarifying information. I am definately going to be going for Alpha access. I want to be in from the beginning this time. He has responded to so many of my comments and is nearly as good as the Anet Dev is talking to his community. Big plus for a game imo!

Not so sure I want to be involved in testing... so I am not sure how much I will invest in the game - although getting my named reserved has great appeal. Anyone have a real clue on when the Kickstarter will get kickstarted? I don't check their site everyday, but if someone posts in here I will notice since I do check Gaiscioch every day - sometimes 3-4 times a day.

Mark Jacobs seems bent on keeping it a March Kickstarter release as he advertised. Maybe that means March 31st. :D He is increasing his PR, posting, interviews, and there is a site redesign happening that should be revealed soon.

Looks like it may be Tuesday, April 2nd that the Kickstarter might go live. Kickstarter has approved the project, but Mark Jacobs doesn't want to launch on the holiday weekend or on April Fool's Day.
