So I was browsing various sites this morning before heading into work, and found quite a few references for folks receiving temporary bans for various really out there bad names. Then I continued and found some that I couldn't see why they where banned. Then I found one that I didn't even know was a "bad word" that was caught and banned.
While the stories sources are untrusted, it does sound as though Arenanet, as opposed to several games, may mean thier naming policy.
With the starter violation being a three day ban it seems worth it to go google my character names. Be careful out there :)

People may disagree about what names are offensive and a name that is not offensive to you may be very offensive to another player. When creating a character or guild name for Guild Wars 2, it is encouraged that you select a name that reflects the theme of the game. The guidelines listed below outline the types of names that you can NOT use, and apply to player, character and/or guild names..
We do not permit names that:
- Have offensive racial, ethnic, or national connotations.
- Include hate speech or bigoted slurs
- Reference sexual acts or real life violence.
- Are pornographic.
- Make inappropriate references to human anatomy or bodily functions.
- Reference illegal drugs or activities.
- Reference religious or historical figures.
- Reference real-life people.
- Reference names of copyrighted or trademarked characters, materials, or products.
- Use misspellings or alternative spellings of names that violate any of the above rules.
Impersonating an ArenaNet, Inc., NC Interactive, Inc or NCsoft employee or customer support representative is against the Guild Wars 2 User Agreement, so we do not allow characters to take the real name or handles of employees. In addition, if a name is found to violate a third party’s proprietary rights and the rights holder complains about its use, we will not allow the name.
Names restricted by this policy will generally be subject to these restrictions, no matter whether the names are inappropriate in English or any other language.
If a name is reported to us and is in violation of the guidelines above, for the first offense, you will be required to rename your character upon your next login and your account will be marked and suspended pursuant to Guild Wars 2 Conduct Breaches and Outcomes. For the second offense, we will assign you a new name and your account will again be marked and suspended pursuant to Guild Wars 2 Conduct Breaches and Outcomes. We may take further action at our discretion.
This policy may not cover all inappropriate or disallowed names. ArenaNet reserves the right to reject any name it concludes, in its sole and absolute discretion, is indecent, obscene, offensive or otherwise violates our naming policy or the Guild Wars 2 User Agreement. ArenaNet reserves the right to examine names on a case-by-case basis and take whatever action we deem necessary in our sole and absolute discretion. We reserve the right, in our sole and absolute discretion, to change, modify, add or remove portions of this Guild Wars 2 Naming Policy at any time.
Customer Service agents generally will change names only when they violate this policy or our User Agreement. They will not change names upon request.
