During my exploration of these forums and other various places with people asking, I came across this image, and after reviewing it, I think it would be a great place to get started for a lot of people with basic questions and little to no understanding.

There are some better parts yes, but this is a basic guideline and I believe it will ultimately help those in need of some where to start.

This is not my creation, its by Falcon, a web enthusiest and system building guru.

Enjoy and discuss:

Very Nice! I just bought a new comp a few weeks ago and I'm in the dark blue area of this chart. The only problem I had was that my case had an IEEE port on the front and the motherboard I had didn't have any place to plug it in. The issue with this is that the IEEE Cable looks IDENTICAL to a USB cable. But if you plug an IEEE into a USB port, you can essentially FRY a motherboard. Luckily I noticed the different markings and the motherboards instruction guide had a big red bold fonted warning to never plug the IEEE cable into a USB port.

Yeah, the IEEE vs USB thing is not good. Like it when plugs are definitely different. At least they put a nice warning in there that caught your attention!

Can't agree with most of the AMD builds. Check out this article: http://techreport.com/articles.x/23246 The AMD cpus consistently get stomped in gaming performance. I've mentioned it many times in build recommendations I made to people in the past. Unless you absolutely can't spare the extra $20-$50 on a better processor, there is absolutely no reason to go with an AMD cpu currently. Intel's processors are just faster and consume less power. Though it's not on that chart, the i3-2120 will also outperform most of those AMD cpus in gaming as well. Especially being an MMO, Guild Wars 2 is more cpu intensive than most genres. My other concern is with all the ASrock motherboards that are on that chart. I understand a lot of sites are giving them good reviews, but the jury is still out on what their overall reliability is. Also, it should be stated that I have no brand loyalty. I spend my money on whatever offers the best performance for the money. Right now, Intel is just so far ahead it's crazy. If you have a Micro Center near you they are always doing $50 off Intel motherboards when you buy certain processors. At least one of the i5's and an i7 is always included. Typically right now it's the i5 3570 which is $189.99 there and they'll give you $50 off any Z77 motherboard at the register. The one I'd go with is the Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H. If you get the i5 3570 with it the price drops down to $59.99. You get a nice cpu and motherboard for $250. That leaves room for a decent build for under $600. Get a radeon 7770 or GTX 560 if you have the extra cash and upgrade it down the road if you need to. Remember, it's easier to upgrade the video card than the cpu and motherboard.

Much respect to AMD builds I didnt think I would ever be without an AMD cpu in any of my rigs. btw thats a really informative guide. Im currently on my first Intel build, and I just recently got it all put together a few days ago. I bought it peice by peice and it took me forEVER to save up for it but im pretty happy w/ it some of the high points are: ASUS ROG Rampage IV Extreme MOBO OC'd i7 2600k (i used my old CPU) WC'd (2x cougar vortex on corsair H100) 2x ASUS ROG DirectCU gtx 560 ti's (SLI) 16gb Corsair Vengeance 2133 RAM 2x Crucial M4 SSD's (Raid0) not totally top of the line but I still went over my budget building it, and its the best of what I could afford. Theres more stuff in there than I can remember and list but i'm in love w/ it right now =] as you can see.

Good seeing this. I do build many PC currently for a living. Many underestimate what works well or to be avoided. Budget plays the biggest factor and get what you can afford. Convenience of a system Which always leads to issues and more of a headache later on. I do not mind helping anyone with this.
