Sharing the family vs recruiting

I wanted to start a conversation about how we bring new members into Gaiscioch.

I know we don't recruit in the sense of ever posting recruitment ads in level-50 chat or other public channels. I'd never suggest to someone who's in another guild that they jump to our family. When people ask me about Gaiscioch, of course I talk to them and how they might join.

Specifically, here's the aspect I'm not positive about. If I see a comment in a public channel, say Scarwood Reach zone chat, that says something like "New player to Rift would like to find a guild." Do I respond to that, or wait until the person is more specific about Gaiscioch?

I think for now, wait until they're asking specifically about Gaiscioch. It's not that we don't want them, the 500 player cap is kinda scary when we look at how many members we have already and Ben is trying to keep us to a single guild until alliance and alliance chat comes out. Once alliance chat comes out, you can go hog wild and whenever someone makes a post like this, feel free to say "check us out!" The good news is normally we like to recruit or at least post articles about ourselves. Hell it's how I found out about us for Warhammer Online. We're just not openly recruiting right now.

Pretty much the way we recruit is by action not words. We find that the blanket messages and approaching people often times just builds animosity towards us. Since our time in Warhammer we've taken a different approach. 1. Host events open to the entire community This allows new players a chance to see us in action, see how we interact with each other, feel included in the family without being there. If they like us they will ask about joining and that's when we talk to them about joining. 2. Our Website By far one of the better recruiting tools for us this site acts as an overview of who we are and what we do. If members are interested they ask to join us. The key is that we wait until they are interested in us before we approach them on joining us. We don't need "Anybody" we need the ones who want to be here. If we're interesting to them and they want to give us a shot we let them join us. In GW2 we need to be careful because that 500 player cap may seem like plenty of space but in my experience no game can ever expect what we have coming. We broke RIFT with their infinite guild cap. They had to rebuild the roster tab of the guild page because of us. Never underestimate how big of a wildfire is about to break out. Right now I don't want people throwing our name out there on forums as a guild to join. Not yet. Once we have alliances the gloves will come off and we can publicly announce ourselves. Were already getting a lot of exposure because of Roger's memorial and I suspect it's only going to get bigger. Lets save space for the people who know about us and want to be a part of us first. The proactive ones will find us. Foghladha

Yeah, for me I knew I wanted to transfer to Faeblight. I searched out answers to the question: What's the best guild on Faeblight? I found gaiscioch.com before I ever even transfered to the shard. Hail Google, eh :D

Pretty much why i decided to join the guild. I never saw people actively recruiting, but I did see events once in a while, and I joined some and foghladha and others were kind enough to let me tank some of them (most guilds I've hung around with, tanks are pretty much already fixed in place and newer tanks have a hard time getting a spot) I liked some people in it, I liked the events I went on, so I talked to foghladha and joined.

I ran with GnR a few times and had fun. The play style fit perfect. Everyone on Vent was mature, but having a good time. I started doing some research and what I found was consistent with what I'd seen in game. Eventually I bit, signed on, and spread the word to others I know. Turns out one of them already had their eye on GnR as well. :)

I've been looking for a guild that could accept my play style and limitations without judgment for several years. Had a couple of false starts, and a streak where every guild i joined just fizzled out. When i heard about the Sanctum of Rall server and its story i looked up the page expecting to find just another elite PVP guild. Boy was i surprised. I probably spent two weeks reading over the pages, and stalking some of the forums and vetting your reputation with my friends. Ultimately though i was hooked by the potential for a home. So it seems to me that people will definitely find their own way here. There's already a lot of name recognition and good press without any active recruiting.

Here's how I do things. I don't bring up guild at all unless asked, but I group up with people and help them out when I see them ask for it in public channels. I go for the public relations aspect. This has led to some great playing and conversations. I think I spent half of my play time in the last BWE for GW2 helping and talking to people. Helped disperse the whiners in my area, too. ::chuckles:: Like Fog said on how we actually get people interested is how I did. We were still on Pheonix Throne in Warhammer and I had become the leader of a guild and I wanted a better network into RvR to help players have events to do. I had run with Gaiscioch quite a bit, so put my guild as part of their Tuatha. Other than a blip where I wound up off Warhammer for a bit and life put me out of touch, I've been active with the family ever since. When I tried Rift last year and found out Gaiscioch was on Faeblight, I got back into the fold. That's rather how this family works. Plenty of interested folks come along, try the family out, and if it fits they usually stick around for some time to come and through more than one game. =D We even have die hard family members that did not get the playstyle they liked in Rift who stayed in contact, but have waited for us to go into GW2. It's more like what I would call a working interview - interested people invited and then they get to see where they fit. =D

Don't mess with Mama Bear, I might hug you too tight. =D
