Tech Question for you guys

I am currently running my PC games on my gaming laptop (it's running windows XP SP3) until I get in the parts to fix my PC and I'm trying to clean it up a bit.  I started cutting down on startup programs in the msconfig, and I go to my task manager and I have 70 processes going on right now and that seems awfully high.  I wish to cut this down to help on the gaming demands I'm putting on it.  I was wondering other than using google to look up every single process to see what's needed if there is an article or a resource that would be more helpful.  Well thanks for listening

Once upon a time, when I was running games on an xp laptop I found a little program designed to help improve the performance of microsoft flight sim( I forget which one) though it could be used to run any game. What it did was close down any extraneous processes that were running outside of the game, including the explorer. When you finished the game it would cue the important stuff back up. I looked around on google but couldn't find it anywhere, I did find a somewhat similar program called Enditall that you might find useful. I haven't tried it out though so I cant personally vouch for it's usefulness.

well u can use one programm called process explorer wich help indentify all process running http://technet.microsoft.com/de-de/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx oh and vouch for it s usefullness^^

Ive used a program called "game booster" before. Run it before you start your game and it will shut down all processes not relevent to the basic operating system.

Yep I use Iobit's Game booster app as well (when I remember to start it up lol) Works very well!

Thank you all for your responses. Well I downloaded EndItAll and it brought my processes down to 44 including game and vent. My question with game booster is does allow vent to be up as well?
