Diablo 3 People be careful

This morning i get on Diablo 3 to find my account was hacked. My level 60 had no gear on, my stash (vault) was empty, and all my gold was gone. There's an issue with public games.

Blizzard is blaming people for having a virus, keylogger, etc. But i use a computer just to play games and do not go on websites. They are trying to keep it quiet but if you google it you will find it's a major issue. There was one thread of battle.net about it with 190 pages and the thread was closed down by battle.net yesterday.

On my "recently played" list there's a level 3 barbarian that i never played with...so  i quick joined his game to find multiple level 60's joining his game..selling all their gear to merchant..then transfering the money to the barbarian (Jamezzar#1705).

I downloaded the authenticator app ....not sure if that will prevent it next time. There's some posts on battle.net that claim they were still hacked with the authenticator.

I called Battle.net and they rerolled my account back...lost some progress but at least my character isn't naked. Also be forwarned that you only get 2 account rollbacks a year, even if you've been hacked.

P.S. Guild Wars 2 please come quickly

If you have a keylogger, your account can still be hacked with an authenticator but it is much more rare (as it requires immediate action on the part of the individual viewing the logged keys). Fwiw, Blizzard has always had account security issues. A few years ago, some how the account data for their test server was hacked and many, many major guild leaders had their real accounts hacked because of it. Blizzard never admittedly it publicly but they (and by them I mean the blizzard staff who were members of the guilds in question :p) told a few of the major guilds who were testing stuff for them on the PTS what was up since a boat load of people who had never had issues previously all got hit at once without any of them finding keyloggers or suspicious activity on their email. Also, if you use gmail, make sure your email isn't compromised by checking the last login locations.

So glad I didn't buy D3. I just don't want to deal with this kind of crap... at least be up front about it happening. Damn Blizzard.

Wow... I'm sorry this happened to you. Thank you for taking the time to post about it. This forced my lazy behind to go and download the authenticator this morning before I began dungeon crawling for the day. I knew the forums had a lot of people complaining about being hacked, but I am so use to these issues with Blizzard, it has become like white noise in the background. Sad really :(

Sorry to hear about this. :/ Although, I can say that I'm glad I didn't jump into the game. I don't have a tendency to move with the masses. I never gave any time to D1 or D2, so I suppose it's sensible that I have avoided D3 so far. If I find a game that I like (on my own), then I'll jump in. Otherwise, chances are I'll look right over it. But then, life keeps me busy anyway. :p

I got D3 but I also have a physical authenticator back when I WoW'ed, so I'm not terribly worried about it since I don't even have a level 30 character yet. Not attached to the game at all, just playing cause friends are playing.

And if you have any desire to use the RMAH, you have 2 strikes. Get hacked first time, you lose RMAH for I think 24 hours. It happens again, you completely lose access to it.

the RMAH really is going to bring hacking to an entirely new level. It was one thing when the hacking was primarily to generate gold coins to sell, now Blizzard is going to need to really up its security team's game because farmers are going to milk that AH for all it is worth.

It'll probably another of those "Good idea is theory, bad in practice" things. D3 players will probably see farming at an all time high because of RMAH.

I would gladly trade access to the whole AH for the ability to play as a true multiplayer game without battle.net connection.

This is just like what happened in the other two Diablo games. How ironic. Blizzard can't blame anyone for this one. This is a mistake they've made more than once now.
