Greetings Everyone,
Thought I'd relay the news that Hopeful and Pandae are ok. Their suffering from a FiOS outage that has yet to be restored going on 2.5 weeks now. They are excited to come back and look forward to getting reliable internet back again. Just wanted to relay the message so nobody worries more than they should, like me :).

Interesting. Local company put fiber in at my parents' house and they had to remove it because the phone would cut out and they could not figure out the issue with the fiber setup. Hoping Verizon as a larger company can figure this out better than a little Ma and Pa company. =D At least we know why they are not around atm. Have had some people ask if they were on and had to say I had not seen them.

Don't mess with Mama Bear, I might hug you too tight. =D

Same thing happened to my community last summer when they installed FO. At first it would be one home, then another, to finally the whole neighborhood losing phone service. It took nearly 3 months to attempt to figure out the issue and they were never informative about what was going on. In the end they left the old copper wiring for the phone service and using the new fiber for internet and date communications only. The company will attempt once again this summer to see if they can figure things out. Even after switching back they had to go replace a bunch of FO boxes that went bad because of firmware updates. Hopefully it won't take them 3 months to figure out Hopeful and Pandae's issue. :(

I wonder if the same brand of fiber connections and cards were used where you live Roadblock as what my local company used for fiber to my parents house. Thankfully the have NO eta on when fiber will be out in my neck of the woods and we are one of the few spots they did not bother hauling cable out to so I'm on satellite for that. Gotta love living in the boonies even if is still within 3 hours of NYC.

I am happy to hear that it has been technical issues and that they will be back soon.

Sounds like the infrastructure isn't scaling properly for the number of installations the are doing. An easy mistake to make, but possibly incredibly expensive to fix if everything is already installed. I would guess that someone somewhere has had their head mounted on a pike. ( that or someone who had no idea how the system worked thought they could save money...) Hopefully Hopeful and Pandae arn't having too many headaches getting this sorted out. I don't know how I survived before the internet :p

@ Bris, Not sure if it may be the same brand or not. I'm sure I'm further in the boonies than you (over 1 hour to nearest Walmart, Gas Station, Grocery Store). Like you we have no cable out here and all rely on Dish Network. As for internet the fastest we have via the fiber now is 3 meg. Since we do not have a named provider, rather local co-ops, we have to just deal with it.

Yeah, you win for the boonies, I at least have a grocery store 12 miles away in the town where one of the smaller state colleges is located (the one I'll go to if I can wing some money to change gears in IT). Walmart is 34 miles via mostly backroads one way and 45 miles the other, but mostly state road to that one. If we really want to shop and have more choices we'll go to the city 45 miles away instead, way more choices of everything. I'm in one of those dead cell phone areas in the catskills. ::laughs:: Thankfully when I finally didn't need a cell phone much I was able to cancel with Verizon early without the fees and even got reimbursed for the prior two months of not using the phone at all. So sometimes Verizon isn't that bad, just had to wonder about them at times when I was working in the phone and networking side of the industry. ;) Had a guy try to tell me he couldn't do anything as I requested due to tariffs and well, I was telling him it would not have been ordered if tariffs didn't let me buy it. Anyway, he didn't realize my coworker go on the other phone with his boss's boss who was a good friend of his until the guy came up behind him. Just one of those crazy moments where you make a person realize they should not have messed with you.

Don't mess with Mama Bear, I might hug you too tight. =D

@Bris, If it weren't for the fact I'm in Wisconsin, I would swear we are neighbors. Especially with the dead cell service. We had USCell for 4 years. After the first 2 years they offered me a free phone which I took. Their way of restarting a new 2 year contract. Multiple arguments with Cust. Serv and they refused to allow me to cancel my service without an ECF. So we had to drop down to the lowest plan which still was 40$ monthly. Finally was allowed to cancel the plan last month with a cancellation fee of 75%. They even admitted multiple times that I am no where near a service area for ANY provider, yet they blamed me starting the service up to begin with. Funny they wouldn't acknowledge the fact that I still had my original contract which they guaranteed I would have service. It was notated by the store that I would have service in my area. Unfortunately, I didn't wish to cancel my contract at the time when I found out about the non-service area at my home since I needed the phone for work. Even when companies have it in their EULA and warranty guarantees, they still won't acknowledge their mistake and the little guy ends up always losing the argument. *rant off*
