1.6 CP clarification

When they roll out the new Champion system in 1.6 we will get 30 Champion Points if we have at least 1 Vet character.  This led to a lot of questions and speculation.  Is 30 just for current VR1's?  Does it scale up for higher VR's?

Hi guys, just wanted to pop in and put this to rest. What Kai said a few days ago is correct. Just to make sure we're all on the same page, once Update 6 is released and you have at least one Veteran Rank character, all your characters will receive 30 Champion Points - no more, no less. This will only occur at the onset of Update 6; after this is released, you will gain Champion Points one at a time as designed.

A few months ago, it was said that we were tracking XP. However, this was still early in development and through internal testing and feedback, found that we needed to change our plans (and, honestly, this quite normal through the course of development). We understand that this was, indeed, a major change from what we were originally planning. In an effort to be open with everyone about how things were going and what was planned, it caused a great deal of confusion, and we sincerely apologize for that.

As it has been said a number of times, we certainly encourage you to hop on the PTS once this is available in January and try out the system. This is also a great chance to plan how you'd like to build your character once it's live!

Hope you all are enjoying the holidays, and we'll see you in the new year. :)

Kai Schober posted this in a German thread and it was translated for us:\

Kai: "To clarify again : Any account that has at least one character in the Veteran Rank, does not start with a pool of 30 points champion increase in Update 6. Force veteran ranks or more characters with veterans ranks on the same account the pool. There are either 30 points or anything. Subsequently , each of your characters , divide these 30 points individually . Each character beyond level 50 can collect more points champion for the account. This is in contrast to earlier statements made that there will be more points champion and that this number would be based to a certain upper limit on the account far earned experience. The plan has changed in the meantime and we apologize for the confusion."

THEN

Leijona: "And we can probably assume that there are no plans to credit the account wide experience earned at a later date on the points champion , correct?"

THEN

Kai: "This is not planned. As initially written , says that has occurred in the design process reducing the maximum possible points champion and increasing their importance to the originally planned generous distribution of start- Champion points for existing players . But we want to make sure that players who have already completed most of the content , are not disadvantaged in earnings of other points champion ."

So there we have it.  It doesn't matter if you are VR14 with every quest in the game completed or you just turned VR1 the moment 1.6 hits live....you get 30 Champion Points.  It won't be too painful when 1.6 comes out because we will still have the Vet system in place and we will still have our gear.  We will just be limited in how we gain CP going forward.  When 1.7 comes and VR is wiped....well.....right now, VR1's have a heck of a lot more ways to gain CP than a VR14 that reached level cap by questing.  This feels like I have really screwed myself by doing all the quests through VR14 w/ my main.

Thankfully I have started getting prepared.  I have started working on my alts to level up to VR and that is all I will be doing for the near future.  If anyone wants to join me in grinding up your lowbies hit me up in game

Wow, did I read it wrong, thought they were giving 30 points PER VR toon, sorta puts a damper on the champion thing.

don't all get bumbed out to easily, champ system will still be awesome...  even if you cant use the quest to lvl up your points, you will still be able to mob grind to get it.... I ctually think its better this way so no one gets a massive amount of point right off the bat and trumps everyone else simply because hes been xp farming like mad for the last 3 months..

Vet ranks will gain CP for everything they do that technically levels them, but yeah it isn't actually an xp based thing.  I rather like they are doing a lump sum of 30 out of the gate to keep the playing field even.  I'm also kind of glad they are waiting until 1.7 to get rid of VR ranks so they can work separately on getting gear, food and pots for VR ranks changed properly to whatever system that changes to for that stuff.  Would be nice if there was a tiered system based on number of CP the toon has.

Don't mess with Mama Bear, I might hug you too tight. =D

@Doreth actually those who were grinding their characters to level cap and bypassed many of the quests will be in much better shape than those who leveled through questing.  Grinders still have a ton of quests left, those who have completed all the quests in Vet have nothing left but dailies, dungeons, PVP and grinding.  I don't have a problem with 30 CP to start in 1.6...I have a big problem with zero CP for anything over VR1 in 1.7 when they get rid of vet ranks

Suggestion:

Let's not speculate, but TEST.  Get on 1.6 on PTS when it comes out after the New Year and test it hard, give lots of constructive feedback, and get a real idea what they are doing.  And with the testing we can talk about it with hands on knowledge.

Let's not even go into 1.7 yet since that is even more speculative and they have not given us a really fleshy idea to try to sink our teeth into on how everything will pan out.  We have only the outline for this or the 10,000 foot view as it were.

i don't see a big difference between whatever quest lines are left and grinding craglorn..  you can gear up even more xp(vp) doing that then to grind quest.. either way we will see how it plays out
