Hi There,

Been playing GW2 and I think I, my husband, and two friends will be giving ESO a try as we continue to play GW2.  I have watched a few videos and understand a little about the game, but wanted to know if any ESO players have some advice or tips before we jump in.

I have always crafted in games . . . any advice there, for example.  One ESO video I watched said everyone should have alchemy.  Is ESO like GW2 where I have alts that craft different things, or  maybe DAOC where I have an alt who is the tank, another who is a healer, etc?    In GW2, I have my main doing different roles depending on which armor and accessories I switch to (it's a revenant).  In Rift, I was doing different roles depending on which soul I was using.

In ESO, I'm thinking of playing a warden, Redguard or Nord, as a dps/heal support, and we'd be doing PvE extensively. Thanks in advance.

hey, it's a fun game. to answer specific questions; all toons should be leveled in alchemy and maybe provisioning, not to worry, leveling is fast and we (the ESO guildies) can provide all you need. one toon should be your main crafter and can learn all traits, but mostly can lears all styles (motifs) you come across, there are plenty of skill points to main a toon and it be your primary crafter. some build will allow you to perform 2 of 3 roles (DPS, heals, or Tank) but most folks find it easier to roll a toon for each. ESO is play what you want how you want, but their are some minor choices to make upfront that can effect end game, a warden dps/healer is a great role but you may want race to be more along the lines of bossmer/altmer/dark elf as these use magic in a better way. having said that, there are some redguard non-stam toons that can handle things just fine. couple of guides, both from respected content makers;

https://alcasthq.com/eso-new-player-beginner-guide/  gives a text overview of the many aspects and help choosing what to roll, how to start

https://dottzgaming.com/eso-guides/getting-started/eso-complete-beginner-guide/ a 3 (!) hour long video that covers everything, it does include a time to look for each subject

after you decide to build your high elf warden, go back to AlcastHQ and look under that specific build for leveling tips.

Hello my friend:

Here are some initial tips of the game that any character will find useful.

Every day you play, I would go the Horse Stables and pay for a horse upgrade.  I suggest bag space first.  It takes 60 days to max one of the upgrades.  If you will play multiple character, i suggest parking all the characters at the stables so they can be upgraded each day you log in.

Once you hit level 15, you will be able to weapon swap.  I suggest putting all the skills you want to learn but may not use at the moment on the 2nd bar.  Prior to turning in your quest, swap to the bar with skills that are still progressing and they will gain experience when you receive the quest exps.  Skills gain exps when you do if they are currently active on the bar.  So if you are weapon bar 1 and kill a mob, all the skills on weapon bar 1 will gain exps.  I also will always put one skill on the fighting bar to level up, that way it does not take forever to level skills.

There are bag merchants in the main towns.  You may wish to buy those bag upgrades (10 per purchase).  With bag upgrades and horse bag upgrades, you can have 200 slots of inventory.

No matter which character you play, its best to learn as many skills as possible.  You never know which skills you end up using at a later date.  Which are better morphs, you will need to research or ask since some are better for PvP or PvE.  Or some are better in certain play styles.  Some players have both morph of skills learned so they can change to either when necessary but you do not need to do that.

I would put the dodge roll on the middle mouse button (scroll button) - Malice Synn tip.

I would learn to block, dodge roll and interrupt/bash attackers.  This will help you in the harder content later on.

Heavy attacks help you regain stamina or magicka depending on your weapon you use.  It will be an important skill to weave in your combat.

If you wish to craft, I would "research" items on a daily basis, when you can.  To learn all the crafting armor types will take a while.  Best to do so consistently.

There is mods that will make your game life better.  Those suggestions you can ask directly in discord.

Those are my tips for now.

May the Gods forgive your sins against us, but my sword shall not!
