Do we have any info on the crafting system yet ?  I`ve been a crafting addict in every MMO since 1999  , however if it is the simplistic and overall useless  as it is in GW2  think this will be the first game i don`t craft in .

Crafting in esp is supposed to be very important in the end game. Last I heard however they were rebuilding it from their original design so any early information may prove fslse. They should announce more soon.

sounds good as brutal as EQ craft system it was still fun ,  you didn`t buy your recipes  off a trainer you learned them by discovery , each new expansion they added new recipes , and all the crafters would try and discover them then they would post the recipes at EQ traders.com .

the way you discovered stuf was  you would get a burnt scroll or a parchment etc as loot off a corpse with part of a recipe  listed but not complete and  crafters would expriment to find out what stuff made .  or you could just  place random items in craft window and hit combine and see if it made anything ,

however unlike ezmode games today you didn`t  get skill ups on every combine  and you could fail combines .  was still fun system .

Rumor mill (and we all know how reliable that is, right) suggests the next beta will have a focus on crafting; so if that were to turn out correct, I wouldn't expect any official information until after Zeni had a chance to go over the testing data and consider changes/bugfixes. So, as interested as I am in this, I don't expect to hear anything detailed and official until late January or February.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see.  I know I delve into every game's crafting system that had one when I played.  Some I liked and some were pretty boring.  I like discovery and I like interdependance of disciplines, too.  Having a balanced combo of those that players like I guess is harder to do because some games have one or the other.  GW2 has it so one craft can make all they need, but has the fun of discovery.  FFXIV has a nicely worked interdependance, but no discovery.  Personally I'm hoping for a happy combo of both.

Don't mess with Mama Bear, I might hug you too tight. =D

I haven't thought about the crafting in EQ in forever. It was the most fun, just trying to see what  I could make. Ultima Online I curse your craft system!!!! WoW crafting was pretty easy, if you could find nodes to mine, or herbs to pick. I never got into crafting with LotRO, the system turned me off because I didn't get to choose what I wanted, they gave me a preset group of crafting skills based on what you thought you wanted to do. SWTOR had a great system, send your lackeys to do your work! What a time saver.

I would like to see a mix of the the systems. Have dedicated generic recipes everyone can craft, just like in most ES games, craft anything. Have specialist recipes you need to put skills into the tree for, you only get to choose one, but it opens more recipes. Finally have experimented recipes. This way anyone can craft a very basic helmet or chest to use, but only a specialist can craft that nice iron helm of smiting! If you are lucky you can find multiple partial recipes, and when they are combined you figure out how to make the "Grand Helmet of Smiting Thee Smirk off Thine Enemies Face!!!

You could even have critical failures where you lost the mats, the recipe, your eyebrows and maybe even a finger or two...

I definitely am going to craft alot in ESO I wonder how much specialization will be required though to create the really awesome end user weapons and armor that everyone will eventually wind up with. I mean it seems like with bonus caps and such getting to a superior mage or assassin or fighter would be difficult if you loaded yourself up with lot of varied crafting skills. This means that you will eventually split your characters up into the crafting skills and the combat skills area.

How much specialization will be required do you think?

As far as in game I do intend to start crafting armor and weapons in my first build very quickly. Having said that if anyone wants to focus on the other crafting skills I will give them whatever resources I gather for them, as well as make armor for anyone looking to get a high level set without pimping that skill early on....

thanks

I am not sure how much thought has gone into the need for crafting but I for one have always been an addict :-)

If you need a volunteer to put some large amounts of time in crafting I will put in as much time as possible.  The easiest way to really get going is to be stationed at a certain crafting location and as people hunt around and find components they can drop them off with me and I can craft items for them to gain skill.  I did this in Darkfall with the guild I was in and I was crafting higher tier items very fast.  I know you guys are really well organized so I am sure you already have a plan in place.  If so, look to me as one of your crafters please.

New to the community and this is my first post!

I am pretty impressed with the crafting in ESO. While it is robust at the same time it isn't overwhelming as say EQ2 could be. The rare crafting stations you can find exploring, the variety of styles, and the upgrading systems I found to be impressive and should present a decently enjoyable time in the game. It isn't often that we get MMO's now that doesn't make crafting a side note.
