To the 'purists': What race are you rolling?

Hiyas!

I'm not a full 'purist', I'm sure I'll eventually quite happily roll any of the races as Ebonheart Pact - but my first character is going to be one of the 'proper' races of the Ebonheart Pact.

Is anyone else sticking with Nord, Dunmer or Argonian? If so, which?

I fell in love with my Argonian during the beta test weekend, which is unusual for me, I usually stay away from the more animal based humanoids. So I'll definitely have an Argonian Templar at some stage. At the moment I'm trying to decide whether to start on that, or a Dunmer Nightblade.

I'll be starting with a Dunmer, hailing back to my Morrowind roots, and she will probably be a sneaky Nightblade.

But I have a spot (and furry) spot for Khajiit so I may very likely roll a magic kitty too.

I am most likely starting with an Argonian or Dunmer, for lore reasons.

However, my second character will likely be an Altmer or Bosmer.

The ugliest female nord I could possibly make. Her name will be, "Helga Steelfork" I'll RP her having a beard, and a really mannish voice.

Also, she'll Worship.. Either Shor or Hermaeous Mora. Still considering that. Her goal is to be the best chef in Tamriel. Of which, Herma-Mora could probably help her with in learning lost and forgotten cooking techniques. For a price.

I'm definitely sticking with the proper races.  The races of Tamriel are Dunmer, Nord, and assorted filth.  As my first toon is going to be a DK with ardent flames focus, I was thinking I'll start with Dunmer. Plan on trying out dual wielding as well for the racial bonus.  Seriously though I'll probably stick with those two races just because of my love of Morrowind and Skyrim.  Plus I'm Danish so liking the Nords is practically required.

Silly question, I've noticed that I'm in Ebonheart Pact. Is this just a way to easily group people or are we supposed to make a main toon of the Ebonheart 3? I am attracted to doing a Argonian healer type; but as an consummate altaholic, I'm looking at other races also.

I guess I am going to be 50% purist:

Starting with a Norse Templar, and a Dunmer (Dark elf) Nightblade.

However, I will have an Orc DragonKnight, and Breton Sorcerer.

Do you consider Imperial race a 'proper' Ebonheart race?  I didn't much like the Imperial.  Nothing really special about them.

Trying to decide between;

Breton or Imperial for my 2 H Melee Sorc.

My Nightblade will be a Dunmer for Dual Wield xp.

My Templar will be either a Nord or an Argonian

My Dragonknight will be either a Nord, Imperial, or Redguard.

And no, I haven't decided on a main yet. Every time I think I have it narrowed down to 2, I change my mind. This morning, I was sure it was either the Sorc or the Nightblade. Tonight, I still like the Nightblade, but now an Argonian Templar and a Dunmer firestaff/fire magic Dragonknight sounds fun too. I can't decide damn it!

I've changed my mind so many times since first posting this thread Breandan... so totally in sympathy with you on that one. But having said that, as of this morning I settled on Argonian Templar - which is almost where I started with in the first place hehe

Noticed that a few others have mentioned Argonian Templars. Just out of curiosity, why Argonian? I keep reading a lot of min/max articles around the place about Argonian's not being good for any class because of their racials - but I like their racials!

Argonian Dragonknight! Glad to know I will have a few egg brothers and sisters! Looks to be the least played race if you believe the polls.

Also, I can't remember if it's been done already or not but I read somewhere that Argonians are getting a buff to their racials. Stamina regen or something like that. I know, real specific. xD

Anatis,

The reason you see a lot of Argonian Templar builds is because of their passives. If you're going to do a full on healer build, a Templar using a Restoration staff, there is nothing better. Restoration Expertise and Quick to Mend are pretty nice passives. Argonian Resistance is good for survivability too.

Passive Abilities

  • Restoration Expertise - Increases experience gain while with the Restoration Staff skill line by 15%.
  • Amphibious - Player moves at full speed in water, and gain increased Stamina regeneration while swimming. 3 ranks, 5/10/15%.
  • Argonian Resistance - Increases maximum health and resistance to Poison and Disease. 3 ranks, 1/2/3% for health and 7/14/21 for resistance.
  • Quick to Mend - Increases healing received from all sources. 3 Ranks, 2/4/6%.

The two characters I will likely play the most will be a nord templar and a dunmer dragon knight. I will end up making a kajeet too but I might play it though the AD story-line since playing through the EH one several times might become tedious.

I haven't had a big desire to play a character out of the racial range for a given faction, but I support the idea strongly. Not only does it help bring together people who might have been very emotionally committed to playing a specific race, it also reflects what we have seen with other diaspora that have started lives in lands other than their racial origin. African Americans fighting in the US Army in WWII, Japanese Americans and Nisei fighting in the US army in European campaigns. There were blacks in the Wehrmacht as well, like the Free Arabian Legion. I'm just pulling from WWII mostly here, historically empires have always drawn from their pool of resources, Rome with their various units selected from all over their empire to fight specifically in areas they were adapted to, the US with it's hegemony, and so on.

I don't know Kiba,, I think it works just fine with the lore. In every Elder Scrolls game well, at least Marrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim (the three I've played) you see all the races represented in the different provinces. Now, there wasn't a lot of them, but they were there. By allowing pre-orders to play any race across any faction, but not allowing anyone else to, they've kept that feel that a small part of the population has migrated around the continent, without having a billion Khajit's suddenly be in Daggerfall.

He's a Breton Dragon Knight named Tuz Seaghdha and will become a "Fire Mage" as I grow and develop my power. He will be fighting with his cousins of the Ebonheart Pack and, along his side fighting will be his wife, a Breton Sorcerer named Mealla Seaghdha, who will become an "Ice Mage" as her studies progress.

Sure, Imperials count. We are the wildcard race, supporting whatever our chosen faction may be for the good of the Empire. I see EP as being the best choice, they did save Tamriel from the Akaviri after all.

I do have a Nord Nightblade alt laying around, with the idea of eventually going werewolf. But he likely won't get much play for a while

In every Elder Scrolls game that has been since Morrowind, I have always begun by playing a Dark Elf.  I'm not about to change now.  As it happens, it's a Dark Elf in the Ebonheart Pact, but that's just because it's where they normally should be. What with the lifting of race/faction boundaries for Imperial Edition, it's not de rigeur anymore, but it's still where they should be.

Yes, that's why I chose Argonian Templar. But a lot of people seem to disagree with the Argonian racials being of benefit. Period. Which I totally disagree with, because as you've pointed out the racials work really well for a Templar Healer. I think, even for a Tank a buff for extra healing is always helpful!

I was just curious why so many GSCH were picking Argonian, contrary to 'popular' belief :) BTW when did they change the potion bonus to the stam regen bonus?!
