As many have noticed since the new HoT Expansion WvW has gone very quiet. With the rumor mill turning up all kinds of crazy ideas and Colin himself saying a major change to WvW is on the horizon, I want to make sure everyone is prepared for the unavoidable truth that eventually Sanctum of Rall will go away and the worlds will be mushed together like potatoes in some new form of server structure. They have to do this to get population back into the WvW battlefield.
Rest assured, we are going to continue on regardless of what happens. I have renamed SOR Community Events [SORC] to Sanctum of Rall Community [SORC] in preparation for this fate. I am not blind to the direction this is going and see the massive positives that are involved with megaservering technologies. It would fix a lot of problems. It does bring a tear to my eye because I love Sanctum of Rall and I'm proud of all of the people who endured the toughest time with us. But I'm excited at the possibility of running across Spartan and Jordyee once again.
When and if this change happens, the SanctumofRall.com site will shift from being a server site to being a Community Events site for SORC. All SOR Members who would like to be a part of the SORC guild will be invited and I'm hoping that we can get many of the Guild Leaders of SOR into the Ambassador seat of SORC so they can host their own events and use SORC as an announcement channel and even have access to kick off guild missions. SORC will become an alliance of sorts to allow us to communicate going forward.
I don't know what the future holds, but it's pretty evident that the best thing for Guild Wars 2 is either server mergers or some sort of mega server plan for WvW. I want to make sure we are all ready and prepared for that fate as it's unavoidable. Plus who wants to play in an empty sandbox? There so many cool places that I would love to engage in battle on Tirzah's gem of a WvW map yet haven't had the opposition to actually engage. Whatever ArenaNet has up it's sleeve it will bring excitement back to WvW and that is not something I fear, it's something I welcome. Roger's legacy isn't in a server, it's in all of us. And regardless of what happens we will continue to carry his legacy.
