Family Information

The Gaiscioch Family

The Gaiscíoch (Pronounced: Gosh-Kia) Hear This Phrase Family began as a social gaming community in the industry pioneering MMORPG Dark Age of Camelot. We began on the Nimue server on November 11th, 2001, with a focus on creating a fun and enjoyable community for players of all ages and skill levels.

With our roots firmly attached in the Celtic Mythological Cycle, the Gaiscíoch hold honor, respect, integrity, and fellowship, over hierarchy and dictatorship. Today the Gaiscíoch family spans many games, sports, and social circles.

We are a social casual gaming community with a relaxed approach toward gaming. We allow our members to play how they want, when they want, as long as they want and do not constrict them with quotas or requirements. It is through gaming, athletic competition, and social interaction that we forge new friendships and relationships.

Family Lifestyle

Our foundation is based on the Casual Gaming lifestyle. Low to No requirements, humorous attitudes, and very laid back gameplay. While we are typically one of the Largest Families in the games we play, we have become this way by leading by example, giving everyone a fair chance to enjoy playing by our side. We do not hold grudges, do not isolate ourselves, do not force people to play a certain way. We simply provide an organized front for everyone in the family and out to enjoy playing by our side.

Family membership is run just like a family. There might come a day when a member may move out, but if they decide that they would like to come back our doors are always open to them so long as they have not violated our only rule. Blades out not in. Members may not attack another member, verbally, physically, or in any other way. Doing so will lead to banishment from the family. The most important thing you will learn being around us is, If you aren't having fun don't do it. Having fun and building friendships are our focus.

Family Progression

Our family is build on a simple construct. The more you participate in events and unite with others the faster you climb the family tree. Members who choose to isolate themselves from others will not progress. Unlike most guilds, our family is build so that the Leadership needs the youth of the family to succeed and advance as the youth of the family needs the Leadership of the family to progress. Thus creating a harmonious ebb & flow of members needing to associate themselves with other members.

A Member can not lead without followers, and followers can not advance without a leader. By creating this harmony we create opportunities for friendships to develop. To progress into the leadership ranks, you must earn the respect of the lower ranked members. You will start by leading small groups, and advance through our formations until your leading 5+ warbands at a time. We will teach you how to turn 10 family members into an organized force of 72 strong. Each step through the leadership training will teach you new skills that will be required to obtain the High Lord or Ardtiarna rank.

In addition through the progression of the ranks we try to teach members to think "we" instead of "me". We teach members that you as "self" can never be as powerful as "us" as a united front. Every member no matter how big or small, strong or weak, elite or casual is a part of the whole and governs the outcome of the family. It is because of this that we can sustain such large numbers without breaking and why our opponents fear us. No Gaiscioch ever moves alone.

The Legend of the Gaiscioch Hear This Phrase (sounds like Gosh-kia)

What is a Gaiscioch? The Gaiscíoch takes it's name from an Irish legend found within the Lebor Gabála Érenn which chronicles the first people of Ireland the Tuatha de Danaan. Specifically the First Battle of Moyturna where the Tuatha de Danaan chose the most honorable and loyal warriors to fight along side the Celtic gods in a battle against the Fir Bolg. These Warriors were known as the Gaiscíoch.

When the Tuatha de Danaan encountered the Fir Bolg for the first time they sent Bres, the finest warrior in Ireland to take a spear of their finest craftsmen to meet with the Fir Bolg's finest warrior Sreng. The two met and exchanged spears and Bres offered the Fir Bolg half of Ireland to do with as the please. Sreng returned to his king with spear which was far superior to their own and the offer to own half of Ireland. The Fir Bolg king felt that if they gave the de Danaan half it would not be long before they were strong enough to take it all. He ordered the Fir Bolg to war.

When the de Danaan learned of this, they sent their finest craftsmen and warriors to the Fir Bolg to teach them how to craft weaponry that was equal to their own and train their generals to use it. After 6 months the two sides chose 300 of their best warriors. Bres met Sreng in the middle of the battlefield and told him that they hadn't need to continue this senseless war. But the Fir Bolg could not stand down. The first battle was with hurlers, which slinged stones at each other until one side could not stand. The Tuatha were victorious. Again Bres met Sreng in the middle. He asked that they end this senseless bloodshed. Againt the Fir Bolg declined. The next day the Gaiscioch and the Tuatha headed into battle and by night fall every last Fir Bolg warrior had fallen. During the battle the Tuatha King Nuada lost his right hand to the blade of Sreng. He was replaced by the Dagda as the King could not show weakness or be disfigured in any way.

After the Battle was over, The Tuatha returned to the Fir Bolg. They offered them any one of the 5 provinces of Ireland for them to settle and do with as they please. They then threw a feast and invited the brothers from the south to join them. The Fir Bolg and the Tuatha joined forces as one united Irish nation and later fought together to defeat the Formorians. The two races of man would stand strong for several centuries until the Milesius would arrive.
